Next thing they will fire a coach for giving his players a "good game" pat on the butt. I'm not saying this coach was in the right for kicking the kid in the butt by any means. As a coach though I know that there is a fine line between what can be said or done to a player. I have had parents go off on me for explaining certain things to players when they are in the wrong. I like that parents are involved but unless they are willing to coach the team (most are not willing) then they should just cheer on the team.
Again, I'm not saying what this coach did was right.

to much sports in today's society, it really doesn't matter that much, waste of taxpayers dollars and time. We should be focusing on energy! Whats next, its mandatory to wear Dockers to the Colts games?

It was never explained what exactly the circumstances were to the kicking...was it in anger or disgust? was it a hey way to go? just not explained very well I think. You cant judge something, or someone by what is said if you dont have the whole story. I personally think that this coach only resigned because of all the attention he was gettting over the incident and didn't want to put his family throught the grief of an unfair community, that is always more than ready to put anyone through **** by talking bad about them. Another thing i didnt understand why did he resign as an Orthopedic Surgeon?? Was he already planning on resigning to possibly relocate and they just used this as the reason why? I mean seriously a surgeon dosn't just resign a position like that unless he is either in trouble with the medical board or they are relocating to a different city.

Maybe the kid should take up cheerleading. That will be a nice easy non contact sport.

Give me a break. If he had kicked an adult this would be assault and battery. Look people, if your boss kicked you for not doing what he/she wanted you to do, would that be ok? Of course not. Geez, why is it character building to abuse children? My 2 boys played football, all the way through college and it is a great sport. Sometimes their coaches were furious with them and as a mom I knew that if they were going to play with the big boys they had to take it. But a line is drawn in both appropriateness and class when it comes to coaching and this guy crossed the line. Do not blame this child

Are you kidding me? He stuck his foot out? The child wasn't paying attention, coach got mad and kicked him! Bruised his pelvic bone and don't know long term effect on manhood. Would this be ok if it was your child or a stranger who attacked a child on the street?

What's the big deal, if the kid is going to play football, he is going to get knocked around. If mommie does not like it, take the kid of the team & enroll him im swimming or some other non contact sport, put him in the band, cheerleading,

Wonder if Bobby Knight is his role model? The article failed to mention that Dr. Flory and Center for Orthopedic Surgery are the team doctors for Center Grove High School; do you think that might have had something to do with him resigning as the coach and from Team Ortho? Dr. Flory's face is plastered all over the Center Grove High School gym -- wonder if those posters are coming down?????

It all has to do with the poor center grover parents, they cannot stand to be on a loosing team period. My kids quit afterschool activities because of the overwhelming attitude of these parents.

I used to seriously think I wanted to be a coach (swimming), and then I read these stories and I realize that it's not even worth it. Parents today are absolutely insane! I agree with "mom" from Kokomo about not knowing the circumstances of the "kick." I also agree with Jim1960 about the fact that the injury could have occured in the remainder of practice or in the game that the kid played in. I would like to know who is freaking out, the kid or the mom. It's Center Grove, so probably the mom. Maybe this kid should start playing the flute in the band if he can't take the rough housing of football. I find it really hard to believe that an ORTHO doctor would purposefully kick a kid in the tailbone/groin. A surgeon knows how serious a spine injury/pelvis injury could be. Again, I am so glad I decided not to be a coach.I'd probably be in jail for patting a kid on the back and telling them good job.

If he kicked the kid hard enough to bruise his tailbone I think that's a little rough don't you? A little more than just a tap to bruise the poor kids tailbone!!!!!!!!

Hey Jim, Maybe you could bend over and let me kick you hard enough to bruise your tailbone?? Hmm? What do ya say? Then you can go be a cheerleader if it hurts! Rah! Rah! Goooooo Jim!!!!!!

Doug Flory would not hurt a soul! He coached our 16 y/o son several years back. We have been acquianted with him since that time, his wife and beautiful family. This thing sounds a little out of hand and concerning that it may be $ motivated. Doug is an awesome Physician and contributor as well as deduicated to the Center Grove Community! If this has gone to far, it will impact many people and different levels.

I wrote the above - but am from Center Grove and not IL as shows in my posting. Another thing - how do we not know if the kid bruised his tailbone during practice or a game? Why did the parents allow the kid to play in another game if it was that bad? The kids do have football pads on their backsides.

Resigning as coach-good decision; Resigning or being pressured to resigh from his medical group-WRONG!!!

You have to coach 7 year olds differently than you would a high school team. At that age they barely know the game, much less be kicked for it. But on the other hand, we do have too many "mommies" raising boys in this county these days. Soft boys make soft men. And soft men don't stand up for anything. Sometimes a kick in the **** isn't such a bad thing. Let the coach go and buy the boy a dress...Both problems solved.

i thought the football pants had a place where you snap in a tailbone pad as well as hip pads he must have kicked the boy awfull hard to bruise through the pad if, the pads were in place

This looks like it has been blown way out of porportion. It seems everyone has exaggerated the whole incident. The boy got a nudge in the butt by his coach, he probably had a bruised tailbone/pelvic bone before any of this! Big deal! I am sure he gets worse playing on the field with the other kids! What is wrong with people! I don't know the character of this coach at all, but if he is truly a good person with good intensions, I feel really bad for him. He doesn't deserve this for nudging one of his players on the behind with his foot, give me a break!
