So very saddened for the loss of this young boy. Its a lesson to all about hair appliances being in bedrooms or any place other than the ceramic sink. I cant imagine the pain this family is enduring. My prayers and thoughts are with them.

Plan NOW how you would get out of a bedroom, especially if not by door, practice it fully to the level you can, and, incase of blinding smoke, go through the routine again & again w/ your eyes closed .Keep rehearsing in your mind.

DO NOT take batteries out of smoke detectors, etc.
If you absolutely intend to going off from cooking, put it in ANY location as an alternative.(Better if it goes off late in a fire, than not at all).

It seems like only yesterday when u kids were in Trexler and u were working at the Barber shop. You came to my home several times and spent the night. You will be missed, and never forgotten. Getting out on roof would have been better than inhaling the smoke. People have been known to jump in order to get away from fires or just get to the roof other than staying inside maybe he may have survived.Why they told him to cover up boggles my mind I wonder if they were in his shoes would they have done the same. He was a good kid.
