This is excellent news for the people of Knox County. Term Limits should have been enforced when they were approved by the voters in 1994.

So does this mean Knox County has to have another election to replace those not eligible to serve?

This is great. Finally, the peoples' voices are acknowledged. I do however note the Court's statement in their opinion regarding the "irony" of Knox County voters. The same voters who overwhelmingly supported term limits kept reelecting the same people for 12 years, or 3 more terms. Maybe it's just a matter of voter ignorance.

Finally!!!

IMO, the term-limited commissioners and sheriff shouldn't have sought re-election. How much money have they already cost us, and how much more will it take to fix the mess?

Finally, Some part of our governmental process has worked. I am glad that the ruling was what the people wanted.

Thank goodness all these corrupt politicians will finally be gone. They have held on to their postions, knowing that the people of knox county wanted term limits. Hopefully this will put an end to the tax and spend politics we have all suffered under for years. I am glad to see that there is some justice in knox county.

I was not one of those who supported term limits. For any reason. I am of the opinion that if the people have continued to vote for someone then the peoples voice should be heard. This is a sad day for the Sheriff Department. Sheriff Hutchison has done a wonderful job for this county and will continue to do so until he is removed. He is a fair Sheriff and should he want to run again HE would have my VOTE.

Does this also affect the Court Clerk offices of Martha Phillips and Cathy Quist? I noted that their names were not mentioned in the list?

About time the votes of the people were carried, but if the commissioners get to appoint their own and other replacements, then the corruption continues.

yeah, the Sheriff is the best .... you obviously have no conception of the corruption in local law enforcement.
And as for why these people keep getting elected - some of the fine residents of Knox County would vote for a dead skunk if it ran as a republican.
Republican or Democrat, anyone who has as their goal in life to be a career politician does not, cannot by definition, have the best interst of the public at heart. At some point, we all know all they care about is being reelected, not about what is best for the community - and this applies whether the office is local, state or federal

i personally believe the sheriff has done an excellent job at bringing KCSO up to the size and power and creating an excellent and well respected department i just hope that because of this ruling the department wont fall apart i believe a current member of the department should be appointed sheriff and as being second in line i believe Chief Spangler should be appointed at least till the next available election

I don't know about this, I work for the County Clerks Office and Mr. Padgett was pretty much the only candidate that even ran for County Clerk. Mr. Padgett is a great Boss and I don't know what will happen to the Office with a new Clerk with no experience in the Field. In fact, rumors around the office is that our jobs are at risks.

As your post comes from Raleigh NC, why are people not from this state replying to this? I replied as I lived in Knox County at the time and voted for the amendment. I take it you voted against it. That was your perogative. Democracy has been served. Happy with them or not, the people wanted term limits...

Teflon Tim has 6 criminal convictions for perjury while sheriff, rents an airport from a convicted drug dealer, built 400 houses with his convicted felon biz partner without a contractor license, and steals cars from West Town Mall with convicted copkiller towtrucker chopshopper Roy Lee Clark. 20,000 registered votes disappear each "election" in Knox County, thanks to Danaher Systems Inc, the foreign military contractor who counts all votes. The only votes counted are by Gangsta Govt, their govt slaves/employees and family. What about Judge Bill Swann, the 4-time married divorce court judge, guilty of contempt of court for refusing to pay his own child support, who jails every divorcee until he can extort all their kiddies' lifesavings? Will Swann be booted for exceeding term limits by 16 years? Knox "News Sentinel" illegally censored my brother's political advert (a felony), thus swinging the "election" so Swann barely won. Will the gangstas in govt now be required to pay back all their illegal paychecks?
