The "Knowledge is Power" is appropriate but the other images of the mural are inappropriate. A skull and spider web have negative meanings.

"graffiti artists " now that is a oxymoron.

Painting on the side of public buildings is considered destruction of property in most cities. But somehow Vallejo gets federal money to promote this behaviour. Does anybody else see the absurdity in all this? No wonder Vallejo is headed for the pits.

the comments by res, navy vet, ken and vali all hit the mark. the phrase "knowledge is power" is only partly true. it gives a false sence of the true meaning to people. to kave knowledge is one thing, but FAILING to use it or put it to good use gives it a whole new meaning. to be the one that knows how to do something but never does that thing or show someone how to do it is a waste. the knowledge is then useless. example, knowing the project was in fact a school approved painting, not let maintainence know it was to be there for all the school to see and shart, allowed the maintainence dept to view the project as just plain graffiti and they then took measures to remove it. yep, knowledge is power all right but not using it sure shows how dumb someone was.

Its about time that such art is regonized. I know alot of folks thinks this is an eye sore, but if you think outside the box and really look around at these "graffiti" these kids ( who ever they are) really have alot of talent for their future. To get them to a quality life style verses working for merely eight dollars and hour. As adults we are responiable to help gear these talented young kids so that they too can feel great about their work. I know the difference between art and grafiti...believe me, I have seen alot of incrediable work when I drive around town. I had often said someone needs to get these kids into art industry because they are definately gifted. Hopeful for all of you young people to continue art as it will and can open alot of doors for you.

If it keeps the kids interested and engaged in science and math I'm all for it. In fact, paint it over every 2 months and let them reconstruct it. The pleasure and pride the kids get is likely in the doing part.

If the goal is to get kids to step up and step out of their cycle, how is condoning a behaviour that is only acceptable in a gheto going to help these kids? And if they have an artistic talent get them involved in Art classes where this talent can be channeled. I don't see how incouraging kids to paint the side of public buildings is going to help them.
There were alot of people that worked hard to get these govt. funds for this program. Maybe this effort would have been better served to fund the many other after school programs that were cancelled because of lack of funds.
