Fee hikes spur some contractors to action
Don't tell Vallejo's building contractors that you can't fight City Hall, because some are doing just that.

I feel bad for the honest contractors in the business. As the article said, they are supporting families. Everyone sees things increasing but the government should be trying to assist companies & not run them out of business. Like the article says, some will just not pull permits at all. In the end, who will you trust to be honest?

and the over paid police and fire depts. while the name of the game in vallejo is homes, homes, homes, the leaders are still and will stay brain dead to the fact business is the backbone of a sound tax base, not home owners. yet, they are the same old good old boy crowd are voted in time and time again like the dead heads of congress that fails to listen to get rid of illegals as they are a huge expence and give little back. congress has gotten to the point of failing to follow the constitution and the founding documents of our nation.

Come on,$700 for a water heater permit? That has to be typo. Shouldn’t it have read something ‘like the entire job with permits will run $700’?

Is it true that to be in compliance, if I want to pull a permit to fix the sidewalk in front of my house it will cost upwards of $600.00? Maybe putting $200.00 in materials into the project... Are these guys for real? They are out of touch.. Mr. Mayor show some leadership!!!! Clean house..

.... Isn't it the cities job to maintain infrastructure like sidewalks.. Now I'm paying the city to do their work?

It would seem to me that Vallejo might want to rethink the permitting process all together. We need to provide an atmosphere where legtimate contractors will be providing the services to this community and not the "Johnny come lately, I don't have a clue, I'll not be here tomorrow to fix my mess, pretent contractors". Our citizens deserve better. Additionally why would any quality company or business want to relocate here when you've got to jump through so many hoops? Let's make it easier for our licensed contractors, interested business, and Vallejo citizens to be a part of this community. I assure you that if you do, there's going to be more then enough money to provide for our safety departments, and streets.

I checked with the building division today and got a permit fee schedule. The article left me thinking that when my water heater goes out in my residence, I'm in for a $700 permit. Thankfully that's not correct. The way I read the permit fee schedule it will cost me $150 for a typical contractor to come in and do a $1200 parts and labor job for me. I don't like having to pay $150 but it's certainly better than $700!
