Way to go TORI!!! She is my cousin and i have no doubt in my mind she is ready to make Dixon a more enjoyable place to live and visit. Its about time we have a younger voice to bring out the youth perspective in the town. She will be GREAT!! CONGRATULATIONS TORI!!

I think one of the council's motivations (at least not not Steve A's) was...
"Oh my God, anyone but Ourania Riddle!! She has extensive experience and could challenge us like Mike Gomez did. NO WAY! We own this town."
Now that she's in, and after seeing her father's comments I am hopeful.
A bit of advice if she'll take it. Be an active listener, treat the public with sincere respect (even if you disagree with them) and truly value all input. In other words, DON'T FOLLOW THE MAYOR'S EXAMPLE!!!!
One more thing (which I'm fairly confident you will do anyway)....think for yourself, and don't be one of the Dixon "Good 'Ol Boys"

Whoops, forgot my other bit of advice...something it took awhile to learn for myself. Accept criticism and challenges and don't be defensive. Be a big person and welcome challenges and criticism, you can often learn more from your challengers than your friends. Again, don't be like the mayor.

Oh, and for the folks that are wondering, I have no association (and never have) with the "Independent Voice"...but I like it!

The Good Ol Boy give excellent advice. The mayor is the worst example ever. She demeans members of the audience, plays favorites, speaks in circles and with little logic.

From her father's comments, I gather she is at UC Davis on a full scholarship and is on the dean's honor roll. Way to go!!

I doubt that the 18 year old has the judgment and experience to run a town, but what the heck, let's give her a chance.

I hope that if the mayor or any other council member ever needs open heart surgery, they will choose an 18-year-old first-year Med student to do the operation. What the heck, let's give the kid with ZERO job or life experience, an important job that affects the lives and wellbeing of an entire town. This was an absolutely insane decision, and if Matt Garcia had never been gunned down, this would never even have happened.

Why does everyone think that Ceremello is the one writing every response espousing his political philosophy? Does Max not understand that Ceremello is just a mouthpiece for the thoughts of others who agree with him?

Not everyone thinks elected officials are God's gift to the public. Better to go back and worry about whether you are being paid what you are worth, Max.

Um, you're are really going to compare a heart surgeon to a city council member? That's what you want to be known for? Really? Thanks for the laugh.

Because I'm older it tends to be scary at first glance but then I examine the reality and realize there does need to be a voice for young people on the council and if this is what it takes to make young people aware of their town and how to plan for the future then go for it and do the best job you can.

I'm sure this decision wasn't taken lightly so we must trust and if it doesn't look like it is working in five months you can always vote her off but if it's working then keep the young lady and pray for her that she makes the right choices for this town.

YOU GO TORI!!! No one else that was running would of made a better council WOMAN then you!! I have no doubt that you are going to do a FANTASTIC job in making Dixon a place where people are going to want to visit, stay and enjoy this town.
Everyone that has wrote to you and is bad mouthing you in anyway is with out a doubt JELIOUS!( if i were 50 or so and got beat by a beautiful 18 year old i would be a little mad too...) Hang in there you are going to show them what your made of, and remember, they dont no you, they only know your age, and that is just a number. We deffently needed a fresh new face and not an old one, and we got even better, a beautiful face, a smart woman, and someone who is going to make a difference on problems and people who are always forgotten. Wouldn't it be nice to be pleasantly surprised by a person in politics? Could she be any worse than some of the unfortunate decisions the electorate has made in the past?

I wish young Ms. Coppes the best of luck, and hope she will treat the public trust with the respect it deserves.

We need more young people like this young lady to get involved. Some young people are very intelligent and use there heads even better than some adults, with all their years of experience. They still make bad choices. Give the lady a chance to show just what she can do; she may be just what Dixon needs. In the last 22 years I have not seen this town give the youth a chance to show what they can do. I’m glad to see this finally happening.
She is young and eager to help this town Congratulations Victoria, and good luck. Do your best that’s all I ask.

I saw Victoria Coppes on KCRA news last night. She seems like a very decent young woman. I'm sure she will do great if not better than others. Give her a chance.

Emjoe is absolutely right!! She may be a wonderful kid, but she's still a kid. Does she even have a vague idea of what a general plan is? Could she possibly have the experience for complicated labor negotiations in a time of economic crisis. OMG!!!

This is going to be fun to watch, I know at 18 I thought and the the magic word is THOUGHT i knew the world and how it runs, but then almost 30 years later, that world I THOUGHT i knew was so different. I wish her luck, but to be honest she will be making judgement calls with no experience on how it will effect people or a town. She has never owned a home or gone through the process of raising a family with no money or no job or getting ready to lose a job. She has not had her heart broken yet. So many things to list that make a person understand LIFE and what LIFE needs to make it better. MTV will only teach you so much and that is how to NEXT someone. They don't teach you how to manage a city budget that will affect families and the future of the city. But Like I said I wish her luck, but this is a FULL TIME job not a weekend at the frat house deciding how to pledge in a new member. But then again we are talking about Dixon and look what they did by getting the city manager they got from Fairfield. I can hear taps playing now for the city.

You are so right. Does she have a check book? Does she know how to balance it? Does she have a credit card?

Evidence of her inexperience was when after her appointment and while the council was discussing how much of taxpayers money would be spending for this special election and the interim fire chief this kid was outside with her friends texting to TV stations about her been the "youngest council member." Priorities first. The city of Dixon is going to hell. The sad part is that this lame duck mayor and council made a decision that the new council will have to deal with for four months before the April election!

Oh, does anyone know, including Ms Coppes what are the "youth issues in Dixon?’
