Please tell me that this is a premature April Fool's Day joke ! Are you kidding me, Dixon ??? How much crack are you on to choose an 18-year-old ??? There is no way in hell that an 18-year-old has the maturity or life experiences to hold a position an ANY city council, even on an interim basis. Mayor Courville, you are a complete and total idiot if you think that an 18-year-old is a "perfect fit". Heck, why not a 16-year-old, or how about someone who is 13 and going through puberty, who can realte to younger AND older kids. Thank GOD I don't live in that bass-ackwards hellhole that is Dixon !

Thank God indeed. PLEEEEEASE! We know Matt Garcia and this kid is not MATT. |

whine, whine, not a good ole boy/gal selection here. Was not this the worry. LOL Fresh new member, this should be interesting. Good luck on your reign.

I was really impressed with Mayor Mary Ann Courville. She gave a very heartfelt speech about looking past political agendas and looking to the future. I was touched by the passion that she exuded when she talked about Matt Garcia. She saw through the stumping and went with the person who would make the council more well rounded.
I personally feal Tori does not have past grudges or gripes. She will look to see what is at hand and take things from her fresh perspective. I think the youth will truelly be represented in Tori. I also wanted to point out that the large volume of young people who came out to the Council meeting were very respectfull. They could have treated the event like a rally instead they were appropriate for the council setting. Kudos Dixon. |

Nice to see that there is still some sanity in this world. This is the politically correct, touchy feely world of this loopy council comprised of a "total idiot" mayor and a not far behind "civil" Mike Smith. I especially liked the part about finding someone who was close to Mike Gomez in philosophy but it was really just an excuse for Smith to focus on "style". Smith's style, and the subsequent denials of wrong doing behind closed doors, makes me believe all the more people like Smith delude themselves into thinking what they do is normal politics and not conspiratorial plotting. One question for the dolts on the dais, if you weren't going to consider any current candidates, why didn't you bother to tell Wing and Ceremello so they wouldn't have wasted their time? Maybe they forgot that part of civility. This is a sick little town and it will continue to get sicker. Bankruptcy in two years or less as now they have another member they can hoodwink into voting for further increased wages for police and fire. God only helps those who help themselves. Thank yourself for living elsewhere. |

I can see from your comment that you are a great judge of maturity. |

So you know Tori Coppes? I do, and she is not Matt Garcia; she represents the youth of Dixon and not Fairfield. These communities have very different issues. Her being considered then elected does not deminish anything that Matt Garcia had established. It is in his honored that Dixon would even consider someone so young for City Council. Please give Miss Coppes a chance before rushing to judgement. |
|
How can you argue with this? The answer is easily. One, Victoria Coppes is no Matt Garcia. Courville, in her evidently contagious delusion, probably thinks so but youth *MAY* be the only common thread. We will have to wait and see. Two, the large volume of young people were not there to support Coppes. They were there to get their civics time in. For the mayor to lie about this is so typical of her. She has witnessed this year after year but she somehow thinks the chambers was unusually packed. Given that "like" only one kid "like" got up to "like" speak, I guess "like" that is "like" a "like" statement in and of "like" itself. But don't let the facts get in the way of your cheering. It seems to me that where you receive your mail is a pretty good indication of where you reside. Given that such a big deal was made out of Gomez residing out of town, even though he was registered to vote here, shouldn't the same scrutiny be given to Coppes? |

A number of years ago we had a very young man on the Dixon city council who did nothing but argue about EVERYTHING and the votes were usually 4 to 1. His lack of experience showed at every turn. We don't need another child on the city council. The job requires maturity and a modicum of real world experience. This was a big mistake.

As I recall that the hall was unusually full of students, so many that they had to wait outside. They were not prepared for speaking, not realizing that there would be campaigning that night. They were there to show there support and to see how local politics operates. Young people are often not as suave and gracefull in thier speak, but I think Tori Coppes herself did an awesome job keeping her own. You also imply she is not a resident, I think you are mistaken. What are your motives? I can assure you that hers are pure of heart. |

The Great Libertarian - A/K/A Michael Ceremello, candidate for Dixon City Council well knows the full council said they wanted to see NEW people apply and not just candidates, MOST councilmembers stated they would not consider the candidates.
Dude, you gotta do a better job of listening to understand and not rebuttttt Mike Smith |
|
Do you know this to be Tori Coppes's style?. I think you may relate age to what was a personality conflict I think once you get to know her, you will find her to be someone who brings people together and positive. I do see what you mean though, there is alot of negativity from some people who try to get into the same council position. |

Let's see what Tori does. Will she arrive at the council meetings with an indepth understanding of the issues? Ask intelligent questions from both sides of an issue? Does she have the capability of understanding the complex issues associated with the waste water issues and be able to explain the scientific aspects of the issue to a lay person?
Someone mentioned she is on the General Plan Committee. What has she added to the discussion? Does she understand city budgeting and make thoughtful suggestions? It is great to have a young person on the council, hopefully she will prove to be a thoughtful insightful representative of the people. It was curious though when asked what her mailing address was, she said that she used her uncle's address, but did not say that she lived at his address. She said she spent a lot of times with her parents who live in the country. |

I am glad I don't live in Dixon!
What does an 18 year old know about anything, please tell me? There are some pretty complex issues that Council address - how in the world can an 18 year old comprehend such issues? Just a thought, but the residents of Dixon should be concerned about this appointment - the well being both fiscally and economically rest in the hands of the Council - an 18 year old? If this weren't so serious, it would be laughable. This just reaffirms that the world is going to hell in a handbasket and Dixon appears to be at the head of the line. |

Quack, quack, quack ... it is on tape. You said nothing about considering current candidates. It must be those voices you continue to hear in your head. Like the woman on the front page, the voices told you Ceremello was a demon. You are truly unbelievable ... |

I agree that we need to give the kid a chance. Besides, the intelligence exhibited by the current members of the council demonstrate that she will be competitive. We have had all of 3 meetings of the General Plan committee. It has not come to the point of expressing opinions although some positioning has occurred. The council only proved how hypocritical they are. When Ferrero was appointed to replace Hughes, the reason given was experience. When McCluskey was picked for Supriano, experience. Now all of a sudden we want a fresh perspective. Why? Because all of the experienced people were part of the opposition? Chris Manson didn't argue about everything. He had an agenda and accomplished it in six months. He opposed the status quo and voted against them when they made ignorant biased decisions. I would rather have a "child" on the council, than those who continue to act badly as children. Heaven help us if Ceremello ever gets on the council. He might say something that might actually make you think about what you never question but just accept as right. Ourania Riddle never had a chance because of her association with Ceremello. Guess Ceremello never heard of the kiss of death. Maybe he knows the Italian Mafia Cosa Nostra term for that. He should be investigated to see if he is one of them. |

It's not hard at all to judge maturity, Miranda. How old are you now ? Think back to when you were 18, and how mature you THOUGHT you were then compared to your maturity level now. NOBODY that is 18 is mature enough or has any real life experiences to qualify for a city council seat. NOBODY ! Do 18-year-olds own homes, have careers, kids, pay taxes, worry about energy costs or inflation ? NO !!! And just to clarify things, Miranda, she was APPOINTED, not elected. And I would bet a years salary that she never would have even been appointed if Matt Garcia had not been killed. |
What makes you think Miranda is older than 18? My bet is she is one of "Tori's" buddies. There is nothing wrong with that. You are right on the money with all of your points however, especially the last one. Life in Dixon is never dull... |

This "young man on the Dixon city council" was the chief of staff for Assembly member Conroy, hardly an unexperienced council member. He was dealing with the big monsters in Sacramento, the Dixon city council was nothing in comparison. |

Mikie your turn will come or fall this November. |
