While I wish the young lady well as a councilmember, I have great disappointment in the three city council members for this decision.
Just as they show a lack of judgement when it comes to fiscal responsibility (continual outrageous pay increases for the city staff), they have shown the same lack of judgement in this action. I would vote for "beyond ridiculous" |

Why does age matter to you if she's an adult?
|

I find it funny that anyone that is suggested as a councilperson is automatically criticized. This girl has guts if nothing else. The law itself says she is old enough to participate in the decision making process. When she screws up, then you can make your righteous judgement calls.

One consolation is, at least she should be better than Mike Smith.
He was elected to do one job (get Dixon Downs done) and failed in the end. |

Sorry folks but this is a poorly designed poll. There needs to be an option for voting for none of the above. It is neither a good or bad decision to give someone a chance. It is ridiculous to make her age an issue.
Remember, there are kids her age in the military dieing overseas attempting to derail terrorism. Whether you believe in the fight or not, they are putting themselves on the line. I, for one, hope she is successful just to prove to all that things don't have to be done the same old way. She is not going to be a reformer, but there is nothing stopping her from being a performer. I will make my judgement the first time she has the opportunity to listen and make a choice of going along with the bad old boys or taking a different direction. |

In my opinion, it was a slap at the face of Michael Gomez. Replace his experience, with an inexperienced 18 year old! Additionally, it is my understanding that her home is in the county but used her uncle’s address to be able to register to vote in the City of Dixon. Was not this same reason the Mayor’s husband forced Michael Gomez to resign early? Gomez could have rent a room in Dixon, established it as his residence and stay on the council until his term expired. The Mayor even asked him to stay with them while at the same time her husband was sending an e-mail to Gomez’ boss and newspapers accusing him of violating the law! That’s the politics in Dixon.
I hope Gomez is not reading the Reporter and all the comments. If he is reading it I am sure he is sick in his stomach but probably relieved that he got the hell out of here!! |

Nice to see the GREAT LIBERTARIAN a/k/a Dixon City Council Candidate Michael Ceremello change his tune from negative attack to hopeful.

LOL Tori has lived at her aunts house in Dixon since before she graduated.
Do you know why. Once you do you will realize how foolish you appear to those who know her. Here's an hint. Try and think like an 18 year old HIGH SCHOOL student. |
|
Having the youth involved in our community is a hugh plus. They are our future leaders. I am so proud to see Tori is taking a interest in her community and wish she continues to grow and shed what is important to her and the community that she represents. Good luck. To those who doubt remember Bill Gates. Good leaders Do and always start young.

In Dixon the biggest decision that needs to be made is "What do we do with all the Cowpatties?" Personally I think they need a national cow patty throwing competition and a Annual Patty Festival.Dixon ????????? Who cares!!!!

You just think you know me, Mike. Quack, quack quack. Only a moron such as yourself would think I said what I said to get a handful of teen votes. I say what I say because I mean it. Wasn't it you who told me that I had never lied to you when we were outside the chambers one evening? The problem you have with me, Mr. Smith, is you don't like my style. Your style got us fined $220,000 by the State Water Board because you and your bonehead council didn't direct your staff to take a tough approach with the Water Board. Your council didn't support its proactive citizenry until the very end of the legislative process on the water softener issue. By the way, did you lobby the Gubernator to sign the bill? All of your comments and outright hate point exactly to why I should be elected. I will provide some things that have been missing on the council for years. But this is not the topic. Coppes will succeed or fail dependent on the help we give her. That does not mean we tell her "what" to think, we need to show her "how" to think. I would suggest, Mr. Smith, that you leave that duty to others as you, Cowville, and Jackie B don't have a clue. |

Are you a graduate of Dixon High? I would suggest having someone check your posts for spelling and proper word use before posting them. I take it you mean "share" and not "shed" although I guess you could "shed" your opinions as a snake sheds its skin. For your information, Bill Gates was not a leader but an entrepreneurial individual who happened to be in the right place at the right time. His technical expertise and family background enabled his success along with IBM's moronic decision to outsource development of an operating system. If you read any of Gates' deliberative thoughts, you will find a liberal's mind laden with guilt over his success. His ideas are not useful to the rest of us who would like to share in the rewards of a true capitalist society. I seriously doubt you are capable of understanding even an iota of what I just said, but I had to give it a shot. |

What makes People in general think that all young people today do not know anything, or that because they are young they have not experienced anything? We need more young people like this young lady to get involved, and maybe they would stay out of trouble with the law and such. Some young people are very intelligent and use there heads even better than some adults, with all their years of experience that they have, they still make bad choices, give the lady a chance to show her stuff, she may be just what Dixon needs. In the last 22 years I have not seen this town give the youth a chance to show what they can do. I’m glad to see this finally happening, and just maybe we will all learn something from this.
This young lady speaks well from what I have seen on the news, she is young and eager to help this town Congratulations Victoria and good luck. Do your best. |
U R A BOZO, did I spell this right. I went to Dixon High. |
|
NOPE you did not spell it right. Try again. |

Can someone point out to this poor soul that the reference is to the spelling of the word, "anonymous."
Suppose that is the reference. |

Interesting!!! A couple of minutes ago the vote indicated that 27 had voted "good idea" 27 had voted "Ridiculous" and 11 had voted "Bad idea."
How can it be now that the "Good idea" is 28 and "Ridiculous" is 26? Who is manipulating the vote? Regardless, Thirty eight (37) people (or 57%) out of 65 believe that it was a "ridiculous" or "bad idea" Dixon’s CC to appoint an 18 year old to the council. |

Have you been reading the posts of those young people? They can't spell, they can't think or write critically, and their ideas are simplistic. Other than that, I say the Victoria Coppes is not the same as "all" the rest of the young people. I want to see her in action to see if the council made yet one more mistake. I might just have to take some action to make sure that doesn't happen. Remember, you can either help a person succeed or let them fail without raising your hand. No one has all the answers. I just happen to have more of them than the next guy. That is what Mike Smith hates about me. Like I give a **** what Smith thinks, if you can even call it that. |

To the Great Libertarian,
Are you in fact Mr. Ceremello, the candidate for City Council? Not calling you out, as my identity is no less clear than yours, am just curious. |
