Thank you

This morning I took the opportunity to thank a few of the more than 2,000 firefighters now battling our fires.

Now I know that this will be an unpopular opinion, but aren't the firefighters being adequately compensated for their efforts.
What is the hourly rate when a firefighter hits the fireline? Do they get overtime? Is there hazardous pay?
I find some of these signs and overt thank yous to be a bit like flag waving.
Sure, if it was my house that was saved I'd be right there with the big thank yous, but really these guys know what they are getting into, and are paid well for it.
Besides, its all Smokey the Bears fault.

HAHAHAHAHAHA, I kind of agree all these firefighters do is sit on their asses all day and eat in their cozy stations taking an average of one call a week.

Are you f*ing kidding me? Every firefighter out there worked their **** off! Nobody is throwing them money or candy - but you, throwing insults is just so f*d-up. A few signs here and there thanking them for geting the fires contained is hardly something for you to **** about. I'm glad they didn't do it for you though. Next time your house is ablaze remember what you said here and don't bother to call or even thank them for what they did for you. Don't play your jealousy out here: sure they get paid well - because it's a f*ing hard job which, by the way, a ton of people wouldn't dare to do (including yourself). Now go back to your job.....being a jerk. OH, THANK YOU FOR DOING YOU JOB SO WELL!!! I'll make you a sign next time. Smokey says HI!

You yuppies are sad your bugging these firefighters keeping them from getting the R&R they need. I mean a nice sign to keep their eyes off the biggest highway in the world is cool and all, but going out and harrassing the people is a whole other ball park.

And then your saying these folks work hard? They sit on their **** almost all of the time for our tax dollars, Any homeless man can do that. It's about time they had a job to do.

Check your calendar - it's been a little over 4 wks - you're right though! OMG containing over 100+ fires that were between 1 and 1000 acres in the boonies should only take a couple of days, right?! SHEESH! Get a Grip.

Firefighters are paid well for work that is sometimes hard and dangerous. Sometimes it is not.

Decades of fire supression and questionable land use has contributed to the difficulty of their task.

I have worked many fires in the last 17 years, And I can tell you that those guys and gals work their buttt off. 16-18 hour shifts they come back to camp black from head to toe sometimes they aren't able to be picked up and end up out on the line 24+ hours.
To hear all you jackk-offs cutting on them really pisses me off... You get your arse out there and do their job then comment on the hard work they do. until then shut ur wussie mouths. And pay haha, they don't get payed near what the deserve. Sure in Cali they get overtime after 8 hours and double after 12. And then they still aren't making enough IMO. You want to cut on someone blame the national forest liquidation service, AKA NFS. and blame generations of bad logging practices. And blame BUSH,CHENNEY,RUMSFIELD and yourself "if you are a republican" for the economic situation we are in in this country.

you missed the point....i said dont send them home until they are out! didnt cap on the fighters at all just the person who made the decision to release the firefighters before the fires are all the way out. i think they would put it out rather than send fighters home when there is still so much particulate matter being breathed in. firefighters keep up the good work you will be even more tired because some pencil pusher will keep you here longer because the fighting force is being reduced!(before the job is finished!)

Firefighters work hard long hours when there are fires, and do get overtime after 8 and double time after 12 hours. That is the law and that seems fair. Most of them probably understand the dangers when they have done the work for a while. They probably know that there is a fair amount of down time too. No one is trying to slam them, they get compensated fairly.

Our problem is the policy of fire suppression over the years, with the added mix of rural subdivisions. Mostly the policy represented by an orphaned bear...the one who is the spokesbear for this failed policy. "Remember, only you can cause fuel loading".
