I have been doing some research and have come up with some information that the county might be interested in. What I propose is that since Marijuana is Hemp and Hemp is Marijuana, That research and development of the plant begin as soon as possible. Why nobody in this county is trying to develop products that can be made of Hemp/Marijuana is beyond me.
Here is a few things that can be made from the fibers of the Hemp/Marijuana plant: Accessories: aprons, back packs, bags, belts, caps, eyeglass cases, jewelry, hair ties, hats, hip packs, scarves, shawls, shoe laces, shoes, socks, ties, wallets. Apparel: baby clothes, bathing suits, children's clothes, coats, dresses, jackets, jeans, lingerie, overalls, pants, shirts, shorts, skirts, suits, sweaters. Cosmetics: hair conditioners, lip balms, lotions, massage oils, salves, shampoos, soaps. Foods: beer, burgers, candy, coffees, cheese, cookies, dry cookie and pancake mixes, flour, oil, pretzels, roasted seeds, salad dressing, wine. Household Furnishings: blankets, candles, carpets, coffee filters, dish towels, napkins, placemats, rugs. Paper: art papers, bond, bookmarks, books, cigarette papers, corrugated board, envelopes, invitations, journals, magazines, stationery. Publications: books, magazines, newspapers, research papers. Raw Hemp: bast fiber, batting (tow) & sliver for industry & craft use, hurds, seeds. Services: consulting, Internet support, networking, research & development. Sports Equipment: Plastic goods, hacky sacks, skateboards, snowboards, surfboards. Spun Hemp: cordage, embroidery thread, rope, twine, webbing, yarn. Textiles: hand woven & mill loomed fabrics - blended silks to canvas, various weights & textures, colors, patterns, stripes & plaids; finishing services. Other: animal leashes & collars, dog treats, diesel fuel, drums, tool bags, toys, fiber board.
It took about 15 minutes on the internet to get this information. I also learned that to call a plant a "hemp plant" or a “marijuana plant” is not really correct, hemp and marijuana are both separate parts of one plant; the Cannabis Plant. Hemp being the plant stalk and branches, and Marijuana being the female buds that people smoke.
I hope this gives people something to think about....

hahaha, you have never BEEN to Mendocino County I presume? In that case you are not aware of, Cali Kind, the Co-Op, and countless other family owned and personal vendors who make, sell, ship, and give away Hemp-made products. Whether they grow their own, I have no idea, but the county does utilize Hemp. Being a home-grown-in-mendo myself I own 4 hemp shirts,1 pair of pants, a skirt two hemp bags, several hemp bracelets, a hemp wallet, a journal made of hemp paper, hemp lotion, make up brushs made of hemp....I could go on forever, I'm not even a hippie, I drive an F-150!

Because 70% of the profits from pot come from kids under the age of 18, today there are thousands of people that are becoming very rich by poisoning millions of kids with illegal drugs.
Only a heartless drug dealer would think that that’s an OK thing to do.
The pro-pot people keep pointing away from pot and in any direction but pot so they can keep poisoning our kids. Their lies never stop.
You say stop arresting mom and pop growers, the reason the schools of the nation are full of pot is because no one around here is arresting mom and pop growers.
Mendocino has thousands of Moms and Pops that love to market drugs to kids all across the nation.
We need to arrest 70% of the Moms and Pops or just keep arresting growers until there’s no more pot in the schools.
Mendo Meth Epidemic wrote:
"You are using the great "REEFER MADNESS" technique to distract from the truth that Mendocino has a major Meth Epidemic!"
What pot is doing to all of Mendocino County and millions of school kids is madness.
With pot being so lucrative, and Profits from it estimated to be in the billions of dollars, where are the kids getting their money to fund 70% of the profits made? Federal minimum wage is less than $7.00 per hour, state minimum wages are not that much more, unemployment is at an all time high,( no pun intended). Video game sales, dvd's, high end clothing, etc are the top of the list for today's teens. Where are the kids' money coming from?

Absolutely correct. I paid my electrician ten thousand dollars for my electrical. Plus county permit and county planner and environmental health coming out and photographing the installation so there will never be a problem. Did I mention that P.G.E. has an Agricultural program with rates just for these purposes?

I think we've all pointed this out to Watcher many times, but he like parroting BS.

I do not deny that there IS pot in our schools, and some of it does get sold there, but it is by no means "70%" or a multi-billion dollar industry. The facts just do not add up to support this.

Even by his assertion that CAMP only get 2%(even though their estimates but it at 10%) of the marijuana county wide, and that we produce 35 BILLION dollars of marijuana each year (in reality it is probably 10% of this - official estimates have put it closer to the 3 billion dollar range) that would mean that EVERY ONE of the 6.2 million kids enrolled in grades K-12 would have to be spending about HALF A MILLION DOLLAR EACH on pot form Mendocino. Of course this is impossible. Even if we use the REAL estimates, that still means each kids is spending 50 THOUSAND dollars each on marijuana each year.

Care to explain where every K-12 kid in the state is getting $500,000 every year to spend on pot, Watcher?

Where are the kids' money coming from?
Around 1-in-30 U.S. teenagers have exchanged sex for money or drugs, according to a new survey published in the journal Sexually Transmitted Infections. Based on in-depth interviews of more than 13,000 adolescents, the prevalence of having ever exchanged sex for drugs or money was 3.5 percent and around two-thirds of those who had done so were boys.

The researchers behind the survey said that the likelihood of exchanging sex for drugs or money was higher among those who were of African-American ethnicity, those who lived in a non-traditional family set up, and those whose parents had not gone on to higher education. It was also found that adolescents who had exchanged sex for drugs or money were more likely to have used drugs at some point in their life. Teens who were depressed or who had run away from home in the past year were also significantly more likely to have sex for drugs or money.

Interestingly, the average number of exchanges was one, suggesting that many of the adolescents surveyed exchanged sex for reasons other than survival, say the researchers. Other findings included:

Adolescents who had traded sex were more likely to have been involved in a same sex experience.
Those who had traded sex had a higher incidence of sexually transmitted infections.
Around one-in-six of the girls interviewed in the survey had been forced into sex.
Perhaps the most worrying aspect of the survey is that the figures may under represent the true numbers of adolescents engaging in this practice. The stigma surrounding such activities is likely to influence the responses and according to the researchers; "The prevalence of exchanging sex reported here may be a conservative estimate."

Of course theft is the biggest source of teen money used to fund drug use. Then there is becoming drug dealers to support the use. Sex for drugs or money. Those are the most common.

Then there is working at honest jobs. And of course sharing drugs that others have. Then there is stealing drugs from parents. Don't forget those.

So not only are childen exploited by the drug dealers selling drugs, they are also exploited by adults seeking sex.

But Mendocino's drug industry is innocent. It contributes nothing to these facts right?

Wrong. Mendocino is just at the beginning of the food chain and it sees little of it. Doesnt mean it isnt happening. It is. And if you contribute to it in any way you are part of it.

Dope growers who sell pot contribute to posts 233-235 in this thread. To kids who sell sex for drugs.

Now we have posters claiming:
1) 70% of pot profits come from kids
2) 1 out of 30 kids have TRADED sex for drugs OR money. this would be 3.5% according to RC's study he posted.
3) theft for teens' drug money.

So, 3.5 percent of teens have traded sex for drugs OR money.
If 70% of profits come from kids, and less than 10% of kids traded sex for money OR drugs, where does ALL THE billions of dollars come from? There is not a billion dollar teen theft ring, so the numbers just don't add up.

Does it matter how many victims there are to make it wrong? is 3.5 (probably higher) out of 100 kids being exploited for drugs wrong? 4? 10? how many affected kids need to hurt for it to be wrong? all of them? No. Of course not. 3.5 (probably higher) is too many. It is wrong. Those selling drugs to kids are wrong. Those growing drugs and selling it to the distribution network are wrong. Those dealing in the illicit drug industry contribute to this, and they are wrong. They are hurting children.

US diamond merchants quit selling "blood diamonds" mined by kids. They had a conscience. Drug dealers have no conscience. Instead of admitting to the ills they cause, they excuse it. They attack others. They cut and paste NORML propaganda. Anything to avoid the truth. They hurt kids.
