I've already posted the link to the FBI's Uniform Crime Report which showed quite clearly the last few times that you were wrong on your statements that crime was 'up' in almost any way at all. I know that your position requires you to have an enforced short-term memory loss on things like this, so, here it is, AGAIN: http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/prelim2007/table2.htm

These numbers include forfietures that are still in the courts and are not actual $$$ in the county coffers. These numbers do not include the amount of money spent to get these forfietures. Ask the county how much is spent on the forfieture cases. Also ask him how many of these forfietures he reported were for things other than Marijuana.

Does anyone else think that the fact that the forfeiture money comes to the people who are collecting it might involve a 'conflict of interest' issue? If it went, say, to the school system, or the roads, or to enhance the parks and recreation of the area, that would be one thing. But to have the money go directly into the agencies that are doing the confiscation of these assets, it tends to at least not look completely on the up and up. There could be 'vested interests' that might not show up to the casual observer (like, say, who gets to keep Laura Hamburg's house). It seems like there's not enough of a check and balance system to protect citizens from abuse. In fact, I looked into that organization that slandered Norm Vroman with the phony gun charge (in part, at least), and THEY are a group designed to work on EXACTLY that issue (asset forfeiture abuse): Forfeiture Endangers American Rights http://www.fear.org/

When I was in 6th grade, and that warn't yesterday, some policeman came to our school and told us that one. We all knew it wasn't true and even though we didn't even have clue one what marijuana was (I did say it was a while back) we knew that copper didn't have a clue. It seems some things never change - but perhaps you were recycling an old joke. They really did say that at one time. I'd bet McCowen believes it.
