Oh yeah... And Jason Cox is one hell of guy. He has every right to file the suit. Jason should have been promoted years ago!

Eric was my friend and cousin, and like some humanbeings he had a very big heart and probaly could not understand how people could be so inconsiderate and uncaring and witn no morals. Like the people that have been writing all this bull. people lets talk about what good these officers did for our community, and let them rest in peace and our familys to heal fron these awful lost.

Please don't put every law enforcement officer into the role of pervert and/or criminal. My brother was almost killed while serving the public as a police officer in Sacramento. As with every other profession in life, there are some bad apples. Don't stereotype an entire department or profession. That just shows ignorance. And let's wait to make judgment after all of the facts have been presented.

Brittany,
I don't know you, or your father. But I can tell that you loved him and still do. My dad is also a public servant and every time hes been slandered in the paper. I get really mad. Its not fair to have your family dragged through the grinder by people who have no idea as to what is really going on.

To all the people posting comments. Leave these families alone. Do you not feel the pain of this young girl who doesn't want horrible memories of her father who passed in a tragic way? Have a heart people. Get off your tabloid gossip kick and do something constructive with your lives. Stop armchair quarterbacking everyone elses lives and deal with your own.

"Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye." Matt. 7:5

I'm praying for your family Brittany.

My first reaction to the last statement is to say that a person who opposes freedom of speech and expression while trying to cram religion down everyone's throat is not thinking clearly. I would wager that bible thumping censors have probably done the world more harm (via conquering and murdering populations all over the world) than gossips. This being said, all deputies involved had the respect and love of many valley residents; as I asked around I heard people choking up when they talked about the deaths. Shannon has personally helped me on more than one occasion, and I know others who really respected Cox, Gore, and White. It is absolutely appropriate to air and discuss the behaviors of our public servants. This is not to say that we should beleive everything that we read. But proposing to censor public discussion and input, cram mythology down other's throats, and to trust the police without question goes beyond naivete. Discussing this issue is not hypocritical(!).

what happens in law enforcement should be looked at even closer than others. The people carry guns and have extraordinary power over others. If something is not right it should be looked into. If we can't trust those who enforce the law and are paid with our tax dollars then there is a problem that should be investigated. It is not being nosy or dragging people through the mud, it is the responsible thing to do as citizens. This whole thing would be better handled by an independent person from out of county with legal authority. There is definitely something wrong if hamburg (no matter who her dad is) is busted for 49 plants when she has three medical docs. We hear so much about measure G...well she was growing under 215 not G and if there are so many mexican mafia meth grow ops all over the place why don't the police go after them?

Wow BMD,
where did you get "opposes freedom of speech and expression while trying to cram religion down everyone's throat is not thinking clearly." ?

My point was that these people are still humans and it tears apart families when articles like this are printed. and comments directed at someones dad are printed. I never said to censor any of it. I was trying to get you all to think about the words you were saying. and thats not cramming religion down someones throat.

You would be upset if this was your family and so your ignorance is blinding your rational thinking. Im talking from experience. maybe you know the family, but try to remember a time when someone you loved was criticized and then open your mouth.

as for testament: if this theory is to be applied, then apply it to everyone. lets pull everyones landry out and then well hear a change of tune. If you want to look closer at some and not others isnt that hypocrisy? and as for religion, God sees gossip and murder as equal of a sin (BMD). and discussing the issue isnt hypocritical, you're right, but judging the issue is and thats what that verse refers to if you read it correctly.

It's good the public is talking about this.
Law enforcement has the will and the ability as well as the sworn duty to take away your civil liberties.

If they are not performing their job...well, someone should care.

As for the families...sorry this is happening but please understand and know that the truth must come out. People can not hide behind pain and fear in an effort to cover up ugliness. If nothing else all involved should own their part (including Jason) and own it well.

Jason, stay calm, focused and allow honesty to rule this fight and win it well.

BMD,
Reading a scripture, which you choose to read by looking at it on this site, is not CRAMMING RELIGION down someone's throat. Why do you overreact like that? Why are you so sensitive to a verse being posted? That IS freedom of speech. And our laws... "do not murder, do not steal, etc." happen to come from the Scripture. They are in the Ten Commandments... our country was founded on the principal of Christianity... love your neighbor as yourself, don't steal, don't murder, pay your taxes, etc. So I don't think the "Bible Thumpers" have done all bad. Have a little tolerance for people with beliefs that are different than your own.

How on earth did Brett crash at the bridge just at the hurts processing business and home. Broad daylight and the road straight as could be. Was he ever cited?(NO).. As for Jason he is still a man amongst men, including those in uniform...

You said a mouth full about Eric being afforded some support. Many did support and felt for his Mother with his passing, but too, many were told by Sheriff Allman to stay away from the funeral where one might have been able to share the sorrow with The Mother and 2 step-daughters You will notice I did not mention the wife.

I'm sorry I'm trying to figure out what you just wrote beside being on Coxs side because you know him. Guess what I know Barney, and I think he's a great guy. To bad everyone doesn't know what drove Gore and White to do what they did, then again it's probably better that everyone doesn't know. those men suffered enough. But, maybe Gore could have used some family support, which he didn't have, not to mention the department leaving him hanging out to dry. White had some major issues of his own too, and none of them had to do with Barney! <quoted text>

"Our laws" do not come from scripture. Yours do. My laws come from a code of elementary common sense and decency. The idea of a higher power having to dictate to me things that I feel in my heart to be wrong or right is interesting, but I reject it. I don't think bible thumpers have it all bad by any means; I decend from a long line of them. But I do take offense at seeing others being told to not take advantage of their rights as citizens, and being expected to accept what one god dictates as the reason for it. I don't have any objection to "one nation under god", "in god we trust", etc. because they are meant as means of unification. I do have a problem with the notion that a person randomly selects one verse out of a document that they espouse as a reason for someone else to behave as they suggest. I do respect everyone and their opinions, but it is frustrating to see the bible quote as a means of debate as it is an assumption that all parties espouse a personal belief. People should have lively and diverse discussions.

Telling people to watch what they say for any reason is a veiled attempt at censorship. I have had people I care very much about discussed in such a manner. I do, however have control of my emotions and realize that whether I like the discussion or not is completely irrelevant. My feelings are not related to another's right to speak or write. I am in no way ignorant. I am absolutely rational. For this reason, I do not accept bible quotes as a means of intelligent discussion of any issue, since that would be making an unfair expectation that the other party espouses those beleifs. Trading insults is unproductive. As citizens of this country, we are afforded the opportunity to discuss what those we pay to protect us may or may not be doing while at work. Your proposal to limit this discussion is most certainly a form of censorship, whether you think you are protecting people or not. Whether your god considers this discussion (gossip) a sin is a mute point since you do not get to apply your personal beliefs to Americans who are afforded freedoms. We are exercising our constitutional rights, and if we considered the feelings of those involved in each news story-politicians, molesters, rapists, etc. would be protected in the interest of protecting their loved ones. That is not a rational proposal. We pay these people to protect us. When you say "you all" in relation to the negative remarks, I did not make any as I happen to think each of the men deserves respect, Shannon from personal experience and the others from the opinions of people whose opinions I value. But I would never attempt to stop others' need to discover the truth through discussion or try to tell them what to say. If it hurts those involved, that is unfortunate but irrelevant to the freedom of speech issue. I feel very deeply for all involved, especially the children. A close relative of mine shot himself. It was a living hell. I know that it feels terrible to have a family tragedy. That has nothing to do with what people say in a forum related to the conduct of public servants. To the Whites and Gores, I know that many people are very, very sorry for your losses, and I know that your pain is unbearable. I hope you are able, with the support of the community, to heal. You will never forget but in time you will be able to focus your attention on the love and respect you had.
