Full story: The Ukiah Daily Journal

Water levels in Lake Mendocino are going down by the day until water coming into the lake is more than what is now discharged from it.

Hey folks, Don't look now but we are in real trouble. There was more water behind the dam in 76-77 than today. Get ready for no lawns, swimming pools, car washes and maybe only flushing the toilet once a week (credit TWK). It is going to be a dry one!

It's the dopers, man. They're diverting the streams to grow their medicine up in the hills, man, and stealing water from our children. Water that our children desperately need to combat the cottonmouth they get from smoking all that green bud, dude. It's, like, a vicious circle.

Plus, there's perverts all OVER Covelo. Bad stuff, man.

Maybe they can have the inlet dredged now that it is low, oh yeah there may be a ten legged water skipper that might get re-located. I can't believe that they would rather raise the dam than dredge the lake which would be free for the dirt.

Dude, check the rainfall totals. We have less than half of last year, which was a below normal. What do the perv's in Covelo have to do with the lake levels?

Too late eel boy. The Eel's fate was set over a hundred years ago when they built the tunnel in Potter Valley and Lake Pilsbury.... I doubt that the voters in Sonoma/Marin would go for your plan.

*Rolls eyes*

Yeah, it must not have ANYTHING to do with the fact that our rainfall is at about 25% of where it should be. Is bad weather the fault of MMJ now as well?

And of course the thousands of acres of vineyards don't contribute to the problem either. The all grow magically with-out using any resources, right?

A 99+ year water contract to sonoma and no rain is about all it takes:( On a side note, most growers don't use water in the winter.Just a little heads up to old Hopland Flash lol.I don't think raising the dam will help if there isn't any water to fill the lake as it is.

In 2008, my husband and I settled on a 12-acre parcel of land in Upper Lake with a gushing 40+ gpm well. The decision was made after a year of trying to find land in Mendocino County that wasn't at risk of running out of water. Nearly all property we looked at in Redwood Valley was out of the question because of its dependence on Lake Mendocino. With every trip out in earnest to look at yet another availability, we were disheartened by the mud pit that was passing as a lake. What a truly sad situation. Lake Mendocino is why I refuse to buy any wine produced in Sonoma County. Wanting water returned to Mendocino County is one thing, but having it delivered in the form of wine is not what I had in mind.

Finally, we came to realize it was going to be an almost impossible task to find anything that wouldn't embroiled us in a water nightmare. Having moved from outside the Tucson area in 2007, we know what water wars are all about; we successfully threw out a big developer from our town through the ballot box, and maybe, that is the only avenue open to the citizens here, as well.

We are so happy to have been prescient enough to have avoided the intractable water problems of Mendocino County. Lake County is a delight, and I would advise others to resist the novelty of living in Mendocino County to come inland. It's the smart thing to do!

Return the H20 to the Eel River!
It's time for the public to come to terms with the excessive Grape Growing. Not to argue the good or bad of marijuana, but overall, you can use Marijuana for total nutrition. It's important that our water is used to sustain life. The majority of grapes are used for alcoholic beverages like WINE!! not nutrition. The majority of GRAPES are grown for profit not nutrition. Important choices need to be made. Everyone that lives in this county, please give thought to this issue. It's a well known fact how much water is used grape (wine) growers. Winter water supply is being depleted by frost protection. Summer water is illegally pumped from the Russian River to grow grapes for alcohol, not food! Not to Mention the EXTREMELY TOXIC CHEMICAL FERTILIZERS DISTRIBUTED OVER THOUSANDS OF ACRES OF GRAPES WHICH DRAIN DIRECTLY INTO THE RUSSIAN, Just Smell the Sulfur!
Its time to give that water back to the Eel River!

You're talking to Hawaiian Spammer. He is taking vital quotes from Friends of the Eel that are actually true, but unfortunately he is running them into the ground as he always does, wearing out the subject to the point of turning people off and even against the issues at hand. In other words, he has the potential to ruin a good thing. He sabotages his own efforts by mutilating the subject with repititious SPAM!!! For this reason, he is a jerk!
