Why are taxpayers made to feed scum like this for so long before they're executed? If you're going to execute someone - do it and get it over with. Maybe allow a year at the most for the criminal to appeal, etc., but that's it.

I agree with you. And what does it matter if he is retarded or not. He killed someone. An eye for an eye.

Ever notice too, how most people who are against the death penalty are also for abortions or are for "pro- choice"?
It's okay to get rid of the kid before he or she becomes a little animal, but don't kill it after it does away with someone elses family member. hmmm. food for thought.

You guys crack me up. Poetic justice would be one of you guys getting wrongly accused and convicted of a capital crime and sentenced to death. Let's see if you have the same attitude then as they walk you to the "gallows"

Of course, I'm just making a point. I wouldn't really wish this on anyone. My point being, is this system of capital punishment acceptable if just one innocent person hangs, or ten, or a hundred? What would the threshold be?

But how does one get wrongly accused? Where there's smoke, there's usually fire. Our justice system does err on the side of the criminal, but at some point, we do need to hit the switch. We have more kids dying on the streets then we do in Iraq. Sad.

Some people don't have a problem with a death sentence and some people do. I guess you'll just have to get used to the fact that everyone has their own beliefs.

But then at least your enemies wouldn't be able to see you. It would be bad for dentists however.

The reverse is also true. Religious nuts are always against abortion but for the war in Iraq and the death penalty. Save the fetus so it can grow up to be a soldier!

Yes, but you didn't really answer my question. How many innocents would need to die before you changed your mind. Or, in your mind, is there an acceptable number of innocents being executed, as long as the majority of them are guilty.

Are you serious? "where there's smoke there's usually fire"? So you're telling me that everyone whose ever been convicted of a crime is guilty, no exceptions. You're telling me that the system is so perfect that no one has ever been wrongly accused or convicted? You're telling me that economically disadvantaged people have the same high quality defense team that a person of wealth has which helps ensure they won't get convicted if their innocent? Please. Get real.

The only reason it costs more
to execute than life in prison is because the same people
who are opposed to capital punishment are in favor of unlimited appeals. It's like saying you can't cross the ocean because it's too expensive .(because the ONLY way to
cross it is by building a giant bridge)

Limit appeals to 2 appeals in 5 years or whichever comes 1st-out of time, out of luck.

There are more innocent people killed in drive by shootings then convicted people, Those who you think maybe innocent ... It's a numbers game and I would rather have the real innocent ones live, those who have been shot while minding their own business then the convicted ones who had a trial.... In the last line in your post you used the word "IF" Meaning also they could be guilty. I will give you the one about money though, a good example of that is the OJ Simpson, money kept his **** out of trouble.

Alright. But don't forget to swab his arm before inserting the needle. Sure hope it is televised. If not, is there any way to get tickets for the event. Hope the stuff doesn't work for at least 8 hours. I love when they jerk and shake, like THEIR VICTIM.

Still never made sense to me to teach members of society not to kill by meting out the punishment of execution.

We are one of the few developed countries left with the death sentence - there's no doubt that how much a society respects life directly correlates with whether or not they apply capital punishment.
Capital punishment punishes much more than the criminal - it gives no satisfaction to the victims and their families while they wait for years and years of appeals. If they knew the criminal would stay in jail all of their life they could have closure and move on. Not to mention the suffering the family of the criminal suffers. Statistics show it does nothing to deter crime. When are we going to catch up with the rest of the civilized world and do away with this barbaric practice?
