As girl screams, thieves drive on

The screams of a 5-year-old failed to stop thieves from taking her father's pickup from a liquor store parking lot, where he had left the girl sleeping, and the two suspects drove about five miles before they ...

I think it is just great that today's parents are preparing their 5yr. old children for the future by bringing them out on a booze run just before closing. The sooner these selfish children learn that they are not the center of the world and that their wants and needs are secondary to those of "adults" the better off they will be. How boring it must be to be 5yrs. old and be home and safely tucked into bed before 8pm surrounded by a caring and loving family.

Wow, really? Leaving the keys and the child in the car at a liquor store....Im sorry, is this a joke? Im not saying the thieves were right or that the father was asking for it but really?

I don't know if the cup is half-full or half-empty here.
This Bennie and Clod duo did still the truck, but...
...they didn't know the kid was in it.
Now, they have a crying kid, but they just don't throw her off on the road or do something even worse, instead they find what looks like a safe family gathering and sought to drop her off there.
I am not saying that was the wrong thing to do, cause it was the right thing to do. But it didn't turn out right for them.
Oh well, I guess the moral to all of this is not to steal anybody's truck with a kid in it and if you do, then...
Nope. That's the whole moral: Don't steal anybody's truck.

Maybe they should pass a law that states that if you leave the keys in the car and the car running, and you walk into a building, that the first person who jumps into the car and drives away with it gets to legally petition the court to keep the vehicle.

There's so much wrong with this story I just don't know where to begin.

Poor kid. I hope there's some responsible adult in her life. Otherwise she just doesn't stand a chance.

Thank god for the nice family that held the man. I hope they reprimand the father. You don't leave a kid in the car while you make a booze run.

This child should be put in foster care and put up for adoption. She's got no hope having this man as her father. A 5 year old girl should be at home in bed at 9:45 and not being dragged out to the liquor store.

I have family that lives a block behind this liquor store and we wouldn't as much as walk to the grocery store that is right next to the liquor store at 9:45 at night. This area of West Seventh has turned into a haven of trash! Only a piece of S**T father would leave his 5 year old in an unlocked, running truck in this area. That tells me that he was hoping for something more to happen to this little girl. Take her away before he gets her back and possibly causes more serious harm to come to his daughter! He is not a father he is simply a sperm donor that has no care or concern for his offspring! What a DRUNK.

Granted leaving the keys in a vehicle that is running with your daughter in the back seat is a BONEHEAD move, it still does not give anyone the right to take the vehicle. It is the crooks fault not the fathers.

Just another example of a **** irresponsible father...similiar to the father who, a few months back left his child in his vehicle while he went into a strip club. This guy should be nuetered without anisthesia.......another example of why some people shouldn't be allowed to breed....just unbelievable....

No one asks or deserves to be a victim of crime. Ever.

But, we can improve our chances of not being victimized by approaching the world with common sense.

Dad, your baby girl should be in bed at 8 PM or earlier. Advantage: You get plenty of time to yourself after she's asleep. Oh, yeah, and kids need tons of sleep to grow up healthy.

Also, dad, you didn't want to wake her up to take her inside the store. That was nice of you. And keeping the heat on or music or whatever was sweet too. But there are too many creepy people wandering the world who will take advantage of your situation.

This is a wake-up moment for you I hope. Not your fault, but certainly a defining moment. Thanks be to God the child was delivered to the safety of a matriarch at a birthday party. That's pretty cool for an ending to this story.

Crap happens. People leave their children in cars all the time when they think its just going to be a quick trip inside. It doesn't matter if its a liquor store, to pay for a tank of gas, or Target. It happens. It was a stupid move on his part, you can bet that. Luckily, the girl is ok and the men were caught. Worse could have happened.

Did this happen over the weekend or something? Because A) Liquor stores close at 8pm in Ramsey County, Monday through Thursday, and B) Liquor stores are closed in Minnesota on Sundays. So this could not have occurred Sunday or Monday night.
The article said the criminal complaint was filed on Monday, but it never indicates when the crime occurred.

Regardless, the lot of you are getting all spun up about the fact that the father stopped at a liquor store with his daughter in the car. That in itself is hardly deserving of such admonishment. Sure, it's a boneheaded move, but it's reaching to say this guy is a drunk, or a bad father, based on that alone.

Granted, leaving your daughter in a running vehicle isn't the brightest idea, but let's put the focus of the rage on the dirtbags who stole the truck and tossed a kid around.

There really needs to be more education for people about how to care safely for children. Stop cutting funding for Early Childhood education!!!
This Dad hopefully learned a huge lesson. Too bad his little girl had to suffer for it!

Wow. WHO THE HELL leaves their sleeping (or awake) child in a running vehicle to go into a damn liquor store?!?!?!?!?! Daddy needs to be arrested for child endagerment. This makes me sick! I hope he realizes that he almost lost the most precious thing he can ever hope for over some alcohol. I hope it's an eye opening experience for him, one he never forgets. On the other hand, I pray this little girl is too young to remember what happened, though it's highly doubtful.

I was wondering about the time as well, meaning it had to have happened on the weekend; as the liquor stores all close at 8 pm otherwise.

I cannot believe that nothing is going to happen to her father for leaving her in the car like he did. That was child endagerment! He's lucky those people ditched the car and didnt hurt her, it could have been so much worse.

What an idiot!
