Let the little brats sit. Plenty of veterans, such as myself stood for them so they may sit and enjoy their freedom!!

You're under 18, you have no rights you little snot. Do what the teacher says, and shut your mouth.

The parents of this student should be ashamed. I question their patriotism. If they don't like the pledge either, get the hell out of this country.

Andy needs to shut his mouth. What a "patriotic" guy he sounds like! We think Andy needs his nap.

EGG-actly Andy,

There's a reason minors are not afforded all the rights and priveledges afforded to adults.

(vote, enter into contracts, get tattoos, etc.)

Nobody says you have to say the pledge or hold your hand over your heart...just stand. if you want to become Dennis Kucinich or Bob Barr, wait till you're 18.

Prediction: Consistent from Zimmerman (the Old White Guy Marine") will throw in his two cents about how these kids should be applauded for "sticking it to the man".

Nothing more believable than an unpatriotic Marine:)

See, it is the devolving values that our children are being raised with that is causing the degradation of today's society.

John - you stood up for freedom so we could allow our "next generation" to not respect the freedom that they live by today? The youth of today have such little respect for our society and the freedom's that all have fought so hard for. It is sad and scary and makes me happy I don't have any children - because my kids would have stood tall and proud.

Anyone who believes in FORCING observance of the pledge of allegiance has forgotten what it stands for.

I really wasn't aware that public schools even said The Pledge of Allegiance anymore. I'm 27 and I recall public schools stopping it when I was in 4th grade.

In my opinion, suspension was a little harsh. Maybe instead they should speak with a real life veteran to find out when it really means?

Last year a gentleman whom I work with offered me and my husband tickets to a MN Wild game because he and his wife couldn't attend. We gladly accepted. I was very dismayed during the national anthem. The flag was still being displayed and the final notes of the anthem were not yet complete when people put their hats back on their heads (those that had bothered to take them off in the first place), people were sitting down, and the players had left their lines and were warming up. I was pleased that just two players stayed in place until the final notes had faded and the flag was no longer in place, and I was proud that both players who showed respect were from Minnesota.
I guess my point is - why are we expecting more from our children than we expect from ourselves and our peers? Children learn by example. If we can not show the national Anthem and the flag more respect than how can we expect children to show more respect to the Pledge?
I can't tell you when the last time I heard the Pledge come from a mouth of an adult outside of the classroom.
If we are going to insist that our children show more Patriotism than I suggest that we start showing more of it ourselves.

Spoken like a true Fascist! OBEY THE STATE WITHOUT QUESTION, OR GET OUT! Where are the freedoms our troops are allegedly fighting for in that statement? Who needs Islamofascism when we still have good ol' American fascism like this to give the orders? Germans like you allowed Hitler to run wild through Europe, and incinerate millions. Blind allegiance to anything or anyone is the true danger to our way of life.

not all kids are this disrespectfull. Alot of us parents have raised our children to show respect, even if they don't agree with something. Obviously, what happens at these kids' house is different, but not all kids are so rude.

hopefully there's never a school shooting there. it could lead to a prayer being said in the school and Chuck Samuelson wetting himself.

unfortunately, most kids are so rude today. I substitute teach in a public school system where the pledge is recited daily, and in the high school especially, they just goof off the whole time. It is the basis of our country. Stand up and quit being spoiled brats. You wouldn't have any freedom at all if it weren't for the flag and what it stands for. So either respect it, or go to a communist country and find out what it feels like to have no freedom. By the way, I blame the parents. Back a teacher up instead of your brats for once, and maybe we wouldn't have half the problems that we have in the school systems. Be a parent, not a friend.

Wow maam' You really got it bad for me eh?
Children need to do as told.
Then they dont grow up to be ignorant self absorbed citizens that attempt to compensate for their perceived anatomical deficiencies by attacking other citizens.
The Pledge provides the continuity that Government Education used to provide for the culture.
To many years passed where the Just me's of the world came to believe that they are here to be served. Making the pledge a part of the education process is a positive step backwards.
Personaly, I tell the ignorant fatherless boy next to me at the parade to remove his cover as the flag Passes.....And they do!
