I believe there were 3 people that pushed their agenda and not 6 as you stated. Charle and Dan do a good job of listening even though we do not agree with them 100% percent of the tiem.

I avoided moving to St. Paul because of this kind of city management. They can't vote their mayor and city council out either. There's a lot to be said for the power of the incumbent status on a ballot.

The police entered the council chambers. The chamber was filled with Burnsville taxpayers against the "pac"! Yet Kautz, Gustafson and Workman went ahead and voted against the wishes of the Burnsville taxpayer. I remember reading that you and your crowd walked out while your voting record was being exposed in public. As a former Council member, you can never run away from the fact that you were in favor of a much larger facility. It is part of the "public record" The truth shall set you free!!!!!

Did all of you ever consider that there were a ton of citizens of Burnsville who were for the performing arts center? Just because the people who were against it were more vocal(or rude) doesn't mean that the people for it didn't exist. Many people wrote and called supporting the idea. I personally know a large number of people. You also can't criticize this until the project is underway. The performing arts center hasn't even opened yet, so I find it hard to criticize. What if this totally booms the area? At least there is some hope of expanding Burnsville and making POSITIVE CHANGES to make it a desirable area. Mayor Kautz supports small businesses in the area and is making the Heart of the City an area that is not filled with boring little strip malls and corporate business centers. Everything needs time to grow, and people who criticize subjects before they're even given a chance only hinder the possibilities of something better than Burnsville is used to coming to life. Once the performing arts center is up and running and the Metro Millers stadium is up across 13 along with small businesses gaining experience in the area, then come criticize the decision that was SUPPORTED BY MANY PEOPLE.

Yes there were many people who supported the PAC (as did I) when it was a privately funded project. I am the first to admit that I don't know every aspect of this project, but I cannot understand how anyone can overlook the fact that at least 3 private companies looked at it & decided that it was not a financially viable project. And that was for a project a little more than half the size of what is currently being built.
But Mayor Kautz & her supporters on the city council were bound & determined to push their agenda at taxpayer cost. Even if it is being funded by expiring TIF revenue, wouldn't that "extra" revenue have gone into the General Fund? So, even if taxes aren't increased, it is still tax money being used to finance it.
So, how can it be financially sound at twice the size? And if it can't support itself, guess where the money will come from? More of our tax dollars.
Since it is nearly completed, I sincerely hope that it is a success & I intend to support it. But I won't be voting for any of the incumbent council members or the Mayor.

We didn't vote out Kautz but at least we got rid of one of the 'Ol Boys club and one left on her own. The jury is still out on Kealy. Next, if we can vote out good 'ol Charlie in 2010 and the two new council members don't turn out to be more of the same, we might get our city back. We can only hope.

Is it true that the city of Burnsville, with all the PAC spending will not be plowing sidewalks this winter? I heard that the homeowners along McAndrews will now be responsible for shoveling that 6 ft wide sidewalk.....or the city will do it for them and send them bills.

Guess the city can do this. Here's the code:
No owner or occupant of any building in front of which, or adjacent to where a sidewalk has been constructed for the use of the public shall allow any accumulation of ice or snow to remain upon said sidewalk longer than twelve (12) hours after said ice and snow has ceased to be deposited thereon.(Ord. 58; 12-6-65)
