ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Some St. Cloud State University students are wearing empty holsters to class this week as part of a nationwide protest of gun restrictions on campus.

Sure 18 year olds carrying concealed weapons. Aren't most of the deaths caused by violence done by and to those CHILDREN between 16 and 25? And now they want to carry guns? Not to mention relationship issues that get out of hand, drinking, that we all know gets out of hand on campus and tempers that cannot be controlled. And they want to carry guns too?
If they want the guns so badly, let them join the army, they will give them guns. |

It's sad that only 25,000 know what the founders meant when they wrote the second amendment.

Students are at the forefront of most Social Movements. This is no exception....Sorta...These students are actually not trying to get something from some one else (Like constitutional rights they create on campus....Aaaahumm Leftists). They actually think they have that ol' constitutional 2nd Ammendment Right.....Scary idea....real rights.
Those gosh darn kids!...they can be so radical. Next thing ya know, they are gonna want to use speech that hasnt been filtered through the "Person of Color Feminist Gay Lesbian Transgender PETA Differrentialy Abled Animal Liberation Front Commitee!!!! We need a Law!!!.... This must not stand! |

Finally, college kids with guts. You are what has been missing in acedemia.

I agree with 'sad'. The police can't help. They get there AFTER the fact. And to St Paul - I'm 57 and my 90 year old Mom still considers me to be her 'child'. I'm sorry, no kid aged 25 is a child. Same holds true of a 17 or 18 year old. I believe that you have to be 21 to have a concealed permit anyway. St Paul is spewing pointless garbage

If your goal is to keep the US at the top of the gun death numbers, then this is a great plan. We've got such a great head start, let's keep it that way!
http://thegreenman.net.au/mt/archives/001299.... The fact is we have the loosest gun laws in the western world, and the highest number of deaths. Coincidence? |

People between the ages of 18 and 25 by definition are no long "CHILDREN." Adults (including SCSU faculty like me) who have taken the initiative to learn and pass the required courses to carry a firearm (concealing it is optional), should have the right to protect themselves from criminals. No one has the right to demand that I do not.
Counter to St Paul's reckless assertions, I suspect many of the students participating in this peaceful protest have already joined the military. My students have included enlisted infantry soldiers, Air Force officers, and in one case a member of an elite Special Forces unit. Not all people on campus are deserving of St Paul's stereotype. Those who do would not qualify for the permit to carry. |

Yep, because people over 25 never have those same issues. I know many college aged people that are far more responsible than many people twice their age. |

Time to wake up, great web site. Did you hear about all the shootings in Chicago over the weekend? I believe there were 31. I wonder who the suspets are and if the shootings happened on campus? An armed student could have stopped the VT shootings, just as the armed security officer stopped the shootings at the church in Colorado.

In my youth I tried an experiment.
I stood 5 feet from my Shotgun and quietly said "Shoot"...nothing happened. I moved within 2 feet and loudly screamed "Shoot"...nothing happened. As hard as I tried I could not get that inanimate object to act on my will. Then it dawned on me. I was being lied to by people who are confused or have an agenda. Guns dont kill people, people kill people....(sometimes with guns). But then I heard a news story about a youth that killed someone with a gun. The reporter reported that Jr learned to shoot from his Grandpa. I thought gee what does that have to do with the youths choice to kill using a gun. I found no answer, except that maybe the reporter was confused, or had an agenda. Then I heard a story about a youth that killed someone with a Knife. I scoured the report that the reporter wrote and I could find no mention of who taught Jr to use a knife. Then it dawned on me that it was probably Mom or Grandma that taught her how to use a Knife. I guess it was Mom or Grandmas fault that Jr killed...they taught her how to use a knife! Or maybe I realized, if there is no failed human acting upon any inanimate object, the object will remain static and inert. What a Revolutionary concept!! A car, a knife, a rope, a rock, a club, a gun....Is SAFE, unless a Human intends ill to another with the inamimate object. Now I am not afraid anymore ...of knives or ropes or even cars. It is not true that cars have killed Millions of human beings....it is people in the cars...Liberating concepts!! |

As you have to be 21 to get a permit, this eliminates the argument of teenagers carrying guns to school! As a person who as carried a gun for many years I can say that I would rather depend on a citizen being around then the police. The same crybaby liberals are whinning now as when they forecast "The streets flowing with blood" when the MPPA was passed. It didn't happen!! Why shouldn,t adults have the right to protect themslves in school? They must think that they are churches!!!!!!!!!

C'mon.....how many students would bother to carry guns? Who cares, it'll just go away if we ignore it. Let them have fun protesting a non issue
And yeah, like an armed student would be able to stop a psychotic campus killer...I don't think so. |
|
Have you ever heard of inner city gangs? That is where those statistics come from, not kids going to college. Use a little common sense for gods sake. |
|
Why would an armed student trained to use a weapoin not be able to stop a psychotic campus killer? Would the psychotic campus killer be immune to the armed students bullets? Please explain your statement. |

An armed student may not protect against a crazed campus killer unless they become the target, the victim, or are in close proximity of the psycho. If enough honest people are carrying I think a person might think twice before shooting up a campus. This ban gives criminals no deterrence. I think the right to bear arms is in great peril. Soon they will go door to door collecting guns. We are moving closer to Hitler every day. The conceal carry law has been a tremendous success. Crimes committed by permit holders is next to nill. The criminals will get carry the gun anyway.
The anti gun folks need to use fear and deception gain attention. |

As a permit holder I have to believe that concealed carry is always a deterrent.
People who know how frequently do. Makes trouble makers think twice. If they can qualify for a permit, they should be allowed to carry there as well as in general public areas. |
|
Your Holiness, an individual age 18 and over is not a child. The reality is that if concealed carry had been in place at Virginia Tech the toll might have been much lower. Think how much different it might have been at Red Lake if the security guard, who gave his life, and some of the staff ad been armed, People are tired of being exposed targets for crazies with guns, knives, swords, etc. |

As Larry, the Cable Guy says: Guns don't kill people, husbands that come home early do!
