Wow that's sad. I hope his friends are able to raise enough money to get his body back home so his family can say goodbye. My heart goes out to his friends and family.

God- if you are a christian- although with cruel unnecessary statements like that I would doubt it- does not judge us based on our citizenship status in the United States. Were there any toxicology tests done on the body? I guess panic can kill you in the water but I always wonder how this type of thing happens.

Netzain will be deeply missed. Anyone who had the opportunity to know him, would tell you what a wonderful person he was. He was always there to help anyone who needed it. His work ethics and respect for people, far exceeded anyone I have have ever known. I don't understand people in this world, how there heart's have become so cold. How judgements can be made on one's skin color. I pity people who are so shallow as this. I'm very thankful and blessed to have known Netzain. I'am a better person for having him in my life and I will be eternally thankful.

The fact Ruben didn't say anything about citizenship or legal status in the U.S. is what proves he was illegal. If this person had even a sliver of an old expired green card left, Ruben would have trumpeted it from the rooftops in the first paragraph of the column.

That said, it's too bad when someone so young and hopeful for a good life dies pursuing happiness and their dreams. I do hold it against him that he came here illegally, but I wish he could have been deported through enforcement by local officers, medical providers, social services providers, or anyone official with whom he came in contact. After that deportation, it seems as though he would have been the perfect candidate to attempt to go through legal means to come here and naturalize into an American just like you and me. I'd have been the first to shake his hand had he done things that way.

As it is, I have to assume his dying paid karmic debt for many of his compadres who continue to live and work under other peoples' Social Security numbers, and do so with impunity every day. I wish the karma of their illegality would only be visited upon each individual scofflaw in the form of deportation, either voluntary or enforced, not in blanket form like this, where Netzain paid the fare for quite a few.

Rest easy, young man. You're not illegal anymore.
