Outrage over ultimate fighting

Where is the outrage? Why doesn't the headline sports story about ultimate fighting fire up respectable people to demand that this stop? Have we become so desensitized to mayhem that we have become like the ...

Yes I am outraged too, people being forced to watch the UFC matches! I have been involved in the study of martial arts and combat sports for over 30 years now and never have had the urge to use them to inflict wanton violence on anybody. Tying the beatings around Lake Phalen to ultimate fighting is like saying mothers milk will lead you to become an alcoholic. If you don't like it, dont watch it!!

Bill with regards to ultimate fighting, LIGHTEN UP!!! This country has bigger problems than this. I don't want my politicians wasting time on a topic that will not help solve the problems that face this country.

Janice do you really think Utlimate Fighting is going to cause it more difficulties for parents to raise their young boys. Listen I grew up in an area where riding my bike without a helmet was normal, swimming in the local lake with no adult supervision was considered alright, playing touch football in the street was fun, and a host of other things that today's society considers determinatal and guess what I have three children two are in college and the third is two years old. I have yet to have the police stop at my house because I beat my kids or wife. Bottom line is how someone is parented is going to have a greater impact on a child than what they watch on TV. If a parent allows their child to watch this sport without educating them in the process, then the parent is guilty of bad parenting not the sport.

Jill Fritz in her lack of understanding of bear behavior doesn't realize bears are omnivores and opportunitists. The few bear bait stations that encountered by a significantly small portion of the bear population is nothing compared to their encounters with garbage cans and dumpsters. It's actually the reverse of Ms. Fritz's arguement. Bears association of "human food" (her term) comes from their run in's with garbage cans and dumpsters.

Ms Fritz should get out into the woods to gain a more realistic view of bear hunting and behavior.

There is a major fundamental difference between a televised Ultimate Fighting match and a domestic disturbance, bar brawl, etc. While I am not a fan of Ultimate Fighting, it is my understanding that both fighters participate under their own will. While it may be brutal, it is their choice, and it should remain their choice to participate and others not to.

I'm not a fan of Ultimate Fighting but it doesn't upset me. The participants willingly engage in this sport, no one is forcing them to do it.

I'd rather attention were paid to stopping those who engage in such violence against UNWILLING participants.

Boxing and Ultimate Fighting have both bridged the gender gap, it's not just the Men who engage in these sports.
I've seen a couple of women that can take down an elephant.

To think ultimate fighting is like **** fighting or is going to make people become more aggressive and beat others for no reason is being ignorant. Bill did you even watch the fights on Saturday or have you ever watched any of the fights? If so, you will understand that in this sport, unlike in boxing, it is about proving to other competitors that you are better at all the skills than they are. It's not about beating the other to oblivion like it is in boxing. It's a match of skills, techniques and desire. Watch the fights sometimes and you'll notice that 99% of the time after the fighters are done, they will either hug, kneel and pray together and show complete respect towards one another for their performance. How often do you see that in street brawls or beatings? Never, and one other thing although the sport looks brutal, there has not been one death attributed to Ultimate Fighting, whereas there have been a number attributed to boxing. So please before you begin to rant and rave about something, learn something about it, otherwise it just makes you look ignorant and foolish.

Thanks Rep John Kline for believing in your constituents. We live in a representative democracy where our elected officials are supposed to be able to vote on bills according to the will of the people they represent. Rep John Kline is trying to have the US House simply vote up or down on a simple energy bill. A vote that is important to all objective voters this November

Speaker Pelosi should allow Rep Betty McCollum to vote on an energy bill during this energy crisis. I expect Rep Betty McCollum to vote to allow offshore drilling, oil shale, nuclear, etc. To do otherwise, would ignore the expectations of her constituents AND would continue the, in essence, Democrat's regressive energy tax on low income, middle income and retired seniors.

Not sure how to address you since you didn't add your moniker...

If you are a bear hunter than I'm sure you're well aware that baiting is no gaurantee to harvesting a bear, let alone seeing one.

In a year like this where their will be good food production in the woods (acorns, berries, etc.) a bait station may not even have a bear access it. Given the generally large territories bears have and that some bears may not know what a donut smells like (and associate it with food...see my last post) a bear may be within 50 feet of the baiting station and walk right by oblivious.

People who bait bears, deer, whatever aren't really hunters. They may be shooting things, but that isn't hunting. Hunting requires skill.

Bear and deer baiting are apples and oranges.
Can I ask your definition of skill? Are you talking tracking, stalking, use of firearms, bow (recurve or compound?), camouflage, etc. Your comment is very broad.
When was the last time you hunted deer or bear or was this a blanket statement without any experience? Just curious....
