Discarded butts become litter?! Gee, smokers often tell me that they become nesting material for birds...seriously. Or maybe it's only the butts thrown out of car windows that attract birds.

I'm glad it upsets you and most smokers do it purposely and do not intend to stop. We are unfairly over taxed and treated as second class citizens. Do you expect us to be any more observant of courtesy than that which is extended to us.

My suggestion? Use part of the 500+ million a year that they extort from smokers in state excise tax to clean up the outdoor area's that you've banned us to.

Let's see, first it was the whole idea that the only harmful second-hand smoke comes from cigarettes...nothing else...just cigarettes. So we had to kick these people outdoors.

Now it's the only litter comes from cigarette butts...nothing else...just cigarette butts.

Anyone else see where this is going?

What an idiotic response. You CHOOSE to smoke-if you feel over taxed and treated like a second class citizen all you need to do is CHOOSE NOT to smoke.
Easily solved!!

Now, for you to say 'in retaliation of rules, restrictions and extra taxes' we purposely pollute waterways, mindlessly flick our butts anywhere, dont care that our garbage is left laying around for all non-smokers to see is truely moronic.

Smokers havent been forced NOT to smoke, just told not to smoke in certain areas. Most people (smokers included) hate the smell that is left behind on their clothes and in fabrics.

Quit your senseless crying over the fact you need to go outside and light up. Of course we wont have to listen to you for long because the smoking you do now will kill you for it later.

Smokers say to back off, they aren't hurting anyone but themselves. What a bunch of crap. Seriously, have a little respect.

I'm a beer drinker, and beer is taxed excessively. To make my point, I'm going to **** on your door. Please tell me where you live. I'll also make sure to eat a lot of asparagus first.

Yes you are second class citizens. Anyone that thinks littering is a response to a perceived unfair treatment is second class. No question.

And yes. I see where this is going. Please pick up after yourself. First you think that your smoke does not offend and now you think your litter does not offend. If you did not impose your refuse on others because you think you are being imposed upon there would be no issue.

My not smoking and not littering has no impact on you. How can you think that your uncontrolled smoke and your flagrant litter has no impact on me?

Uh...who said that the only litter is cigarette butts? Don't make up opposing arguments that don't exist.

You cannot deny the sheer volume of these things on the ground - everywhere. Many, many smokers seem to treat the ground as their personal ashtray. Notice how many of them toss their (still lit) butts out their car window as they drive instead of using their ashtrays - even THEY don't want to be around that stinky garbage.

I LOVE this news story.

Smoking is really cool, but I prefer to engage in those forms of rebellion that won't kill me. I never saw the joy in sending broadcasting the fact that I don't give a crap about my body.
It's sad that smokers are unfairly overtaxed and treated as second class citizens. They contribute just as big a chunk of their earnings to social security, but never get to collect as long as the non-smokers that live so much longer.
How come people don't appreciate positive contributions of the smoking community? If it wasn't for them, where would we find participants for studies on lung cancer? Would industry work so hard to make effective tootpaste whiteners? I think not. We'd probably still be using flowers as air-freshening devices. Think about it, folks.

This kid should do one of these scavenger hunts for pop cans, water bottles, newspapers and wrappers. It would be interesting to see which has more volume.

See what happens when you bannish us to smoke outside? Ur lucky I don't flick them in your yard and bring Joe Camel to your house to entice your kids to smoke. Ahhh... the high and mighty non-smoker, I'd s**t down your throat any day of the week.

p.s. Second hand smoke is a myth.

Consider the forest/grass fires it goes beyond inconsiderate/littering to a felony crime. As a motorcyclist I've had the distinct pleasure of getting hit by lit butt that left a scar on my forearm as the damn thing when up my jacket sleeve.

Uhhh...the article that was wrote says nothing about all the other litter that's around. One-half of the "Brokeback Mayors," R.T. Rybak was complaining about all the cigarette butts thrown on the ground in Minneapolis, no complaints about other litter...just cigarette butts. Maybe he shouldn't have kicked them out of bars.

So why is this and other articles only aimed at cigarette smokers?

Why is second-hand cigarette smoke supposed to slaughter hundreds of thousands-per-year according to Clearway Minnesota, but other smoke and carbon minoxide are fine?
