I expected nothing less. In this state, if it is fun or it is someone enjoying themselves, then you can be sure it must be illegal.

What a stupid situation. Whoever complained needs to be beaten with a stick.

From a Minnesotan now living in Europe.
Sorry to hear about the need to remove the boat. If this the biggest problem for Stillwater township - life must be very good - a tax cut must be in order.
Would be good if local government would actually think through the situation a bit.

It is proven once again, Minnesota the state that allows nothing. I am sorry you live in the middle of nowhere and this happens. I agree with Gariel, who ever complained should be beaten with a stick. What whinner.

What a crock. Just tells me you don't really own the land, the township does. The boat sits on private property (or use to be) and serves a purpose for the family.

Maybe the land owner should sue the township for theft by taking?

I've always wondered what the story was behind that boat. It is barely noticable;well beyond the out buildings, and probably 100+ yards back from the street. Perhaps a temporary bldg should be built arond it. I hope they don't have to destroy it. It's a ggood looking work, with a lot of time and money into it.

One solution could be secession. An independent Republic of Saint Croix.

What some neighbor has nothing better to do?? Get a life and let your neighbor do what he wants. They pay taxes and they own the property. Whats next a swing set or a sand box?? It does not look like an eye sore to me.Im not into boats but do what you like with your own land. Go float somewhere else neighbors.

Shame on Stillwater Township and the neighbor who complained. I bet that neighbor hasn't lived there as long as the boat.

Leave that boat alone! It's history.

That's precisely the politically correct, liberal agenda - the minority opinion, or in this case a single person, is allowed to dictate to the majority and we, the majority lose another piece of our individual rights.

Who needs enemyswhen you have neighbors like this guy does. I wish his friends and neighbors would get together and give the pin heads in Stillwater a hard time, I also hope the neighbor feels like the fool he is. I think the boat is neat and if I caould see it from my house I would find it charming. I live in St Paul and you wouldn't want to have to look at my sloppy neighbors back yard, give me a boat any day.

Why doesn't Pete just register the boat as a historic sight on the National Register of Historic Places? If he did so, then they couldn't touch force him to get rid of it. In addition, it seems like the boat has been at it's location before enactment of the ordinances prohibiting boats, in which case it is grandfathered in and they can't force him to get rid of it. It seems like Pete has some options here and he shouldn't have to go to the State Supreme Court to enforce his rights. I drive by that boat every day on my way into work and I like looking at it. Viewing the boat from the road, it looks like Pete has put a lot of work into the boat. This is a real shame.

You should live in St. Cloud the home of the lawn Nazi's. I happen to own 2 boats and had them in my back yard. I got a warning from the city to move one of them or get a ticket. You can have only 1 trailer in your back yard unless you have an "improved" surface whatever that is. The city in their infinite wisdom even sends out the Fire Department in their Firetrucks to inspect the lawns. Good use of the highly trained professionals. I would rather have them manning the fire stations doing nothing if they choose and waiting on a call then out looking for a trailer parked incorrectly. But that is the administration of Dave Kleis.
