David Brooks is an astute observer. Barack Obama is a cosmopolitan in a country that is too often parochial. Barack Obama lives in and is a part of the "flat world" described by Thomas Friedman. He loves his country and proudly affirms its role as a leader in the world. But, as David Brooks has written about earlier, the world is now multi-polar. America cannot dominate the world on its own. It must find allies in building a peaceful and prosperous future in a very dynamic and dangerous world. And, it must work with others to build coalitions to solve very complex problems. Barach Obama's cosmopolitan character sets him apart, but it may also give him the very strengths our country needs to chart a more favorable course for the future. The parochial "America First and Foremost" approach of the Bush Administration has been a political failure, and John McCain, good man that he is, seems to carry that more parochial view of America's place and power. Barack Obama's cosmopolitan character as an American world citizen that makes him so hard to place may be the very place our next president needs to be to guide our country into the global future.

What a load. Simply put, Obama is a poser who has never accomplished anything noteworthy. His election would signal the beginnings of an American slide to irrelevance similar to the current status of Great Britain or France on the world stage. The movement to elect Obama is the movement of a cult of personality.

Three Comments as to why you should not vote for Obama. One Comment as to why you should vote for Obama None as to why you should vote for John McCain. Can I ask the 3 posters a question: When you go vote this November, are you going to tell people you are going to vote FOR John McCain or will you be honest and say I'm going to vote AGAINST Barack Obama? It's rather clear from these threads that conservatives have no clear argument or case for a McCain presidency, so far. Their best argument when asked to explain their vote is "Well, you can't vote for Obama because (insert a honest reason/a half-truth/or a flat-out lie here)" Not exactly a stirring intellectual defense is it?

DB Many conservatives have the same opinion of the two (or three) candidates. I for one will hold my nose and vote for McCain, not because he is a good choice, but because he is the best choice among the likely winners. Obama, with his radical connections, his association with subvrsive elements, and his extreme liberal views makes him an impossible candidate in my mind. I realize that you have a different view of him and I wouild like to hear what characteristics makes Obama your choice.

No, but I will be able to honestly say, that I voted FOR the VP. At this point, both the front runners (no one is nominated yet!) have turned me into a P.A. Political Atheist The Lab Rat
