Stanton was not wearing a helmet.
What's the point of that statement?
Do you think a helmet would have saved him from being run over by a vehicle twice?

Hopefully he was dead before being run over - that's more likely by the fact he wasn't wearing a helmet. But we'll probably never know. My husband and both sons ride motorcycles - these are the stories of which nightmares are made. Very sad for all involved.

Bike riders not wearing helmets have a death wish!! I always cringe when I see them ride by me at 100 MPH on the free way with no helmets, swerving in and out of traffic going on the shoulder putting everybody else and themselves in danger.. They are probably the same people who have a "start seeing motorcycles" bumper sticker.. Well we can't see you if your riding at 100 MPH weaving in and out of traffic...

Sad indeed - to say he was not wearing a helmet is just a plot to get everyone riled up so that they can once again impose others will onto riders. I ride and sometimes I wear my helmet and sometimes I don't - it is my choice. We do not need anymore laws. No one will know if it played a factor until they figure out what happened in the first place. Sorry for all of his family and the family of the car drivers. that would be horrible to have to deal with.

He was not wearing a helmet. Was this comment necessary? Like a helmet would have saved him from a crash AND being run over twice.

Quite a few years back my stepdad was in a really bad crash that shattered his shoulder and broke some ribs. He suffered no head injury even though his helmet was damaged. The doctors told us that the helmet and riding leathers saved his life.

Sure they wont save you from getting run over by a truck, but that is not why you wear them.

If he were wearing a helmet he MAY have been able to make it off the road. Of course we dont know that for sure. He chose his freedom but now he has none. I am sorry for him and his family.

Moral of the story: wear your helmet; stay in back of other vehicles.

I think you forgot "all this while doing a wheelie."
Your exaggeration isn't really needed here. If you actually witnessed this combination of poor decisions, I apologize.

So, why is it that all of us have to wear seat belts, yet motorcyclists get to choose whether or not to wear helmets.

Yeah, I'm clueless. Like there are a bunch of Cagivas tearing up and down the highways on a daily basis. Simple question, get voted clueless.
