Kacy, why should anyone have to call and remind you of an obligation you signed up for? It's called being an adult. Another example of the "it isn't my fault" mentality. Just admit it, you screwed up. And yes, I have forgotten lots of stuff, but I **** it up and take responsibility for my actions. I don't whine and cry that "somebody should've told me I forgot". Same goes for your ridiculous post about the credit card companies. Yes, there are preditory lenders and credit card companies, but come on people, grow a brain! If there is anyone on this earth (18 or not) that thinks they won't have to pay back credit cards, they are dumber than you are! Gotta love the "it's not my fault" generation.

Sorry man, but there is no way for you to know with 100% certinty it was sarcasm, unless of course you posted it or you know the person who did and spoke with them. That is was sarcasm is YOUR point of view. I have seen enough idiotic people say some really idiotic things that you would have thought were sarcasm, but if you knew them you would know they were serious.

I know people who think that you are ENTITLED to a nice car, a vacation every year, the need to feel that they are OWED something. That was the talking points of the union steward for my job, when they came around here 3 years ago when we went on strike and again the same old sad things were said again when we went on strike again this past September.

Since there are people out there who think they are entitled to things, to me its no stretch to think possibly this guy was just 1 more of the many people out there who seem to think they are entitled.

That being said, I will not be told to stop reading/responding to a news article in a public place. No matter how angry I get at my tax dollars being wasted(or even insinuated). I am not here to convince others I am right. We are hosed 1 way or another. There are far to many people out there who seem to think when they get into trouble someone else should just bail them out.

I have had a car repoed. I have had my paychecks garnished. I never once complained about getting to that point. I suffered through it, got my feet back under me and made out for the better.

I am just like a previous poster here. When I was raised I was taught by my single mother it was ok to not pay the NSP bill so you could pay the phone this month. Then it was ok, to not pay your rent the following month so you could get everything else paid up. This was how I was raised. I didnt learn about good financial skills until my mother got sick and had to move in with me. It was at that EXACT point where my expenses skyrocketed due to the fact my mother was bed-ridden and fighting for her life, where I realized just how foolish my spending habbits were. During the 5 years she lived with my I managed to get almost 15,000 in debt paid off and get to a point where my credit rating had never been better. It took a very tough situation for me to learn this. That being said, people who have little to no money management skills will continue to make the same mistakes over and over unless they have to learn those hard lessons. I for 1 am all for them learning the hard way, since that is the only way some people learn. They will never learn if they are just bailed out everytime.

Car salesman have a right to earn a living like everybody else. Buy your car on CarSoup next time.

Also, I have nothing to do with the car industry. D*ckheads like you are the guys that make fun of janitors whose kids go to the same school yours do.

You **** at life.

I'm amazed at the complete lack of sympathy. Are we so callous that we have no sympathy for our neighbors. Not every person struggling right now is struggling because they went on a spending spree. Many have lost jobs, been through divorces, deaths of spouses, etc. Many more are being hit with the increasing costs of the essentials like food. To the lucky ones, the increase in gas costs and food costs has no effect. To some it means they simply cannot afford the things they could a year ago.

I am not proposing a govt. buyout or anything like that. I would never be in favor of that. I do however think that some basic sympathy should not be beyond our capabilities. To those who have made all the right choices in career, housing, spouse, car, etc. congrats! We mere humans make mistakes. Unfortunately we are in a very unforgiving time right now financially.

I bought a car last week. It's not brand new, bu its nice. I don't have the cash right now to buy it outright. I wish I did. I can however afford the payments. I just hope I don't lose my job or suffer an illness or something else which changes that. Then of course, I will have been the guy who "bought something I could not afford" rather than the guy who was "down on his luck" as in days gone by.

I appreciate you chumps paying for my luxury car lease, fuel, and maintenance.

“I could probably find something for … one of those red cars and then I think my constituents would say,‘With all the money that he gets, this is the respect he shows us?’”

” It really pleases me that (my constituents) appreciate driving in a comfortable car, especially the senior citizens,”.

I especially feel sorry for the guy getting his Hummer towed. The picture should be hung in the Hummer showroom.

The most arrogant machine on 4 wheels.

You know; I wonder if it was the guy that said: I love driving my H2 on $3.00 gas a couple of months ago!!

If you can't pay cash for it, don't buy it. Hopefully more folks will learn this in hard times and it will stick with them in good times, so they don't buy a 30,000 dollar car when they are making 40K per year. I may have an old crappy minivan, but its paid for!

in the "just wondering" department... when the repo business slows down, who repos the tow trucks?
LOL I never thought about that but that's a good question. Then I heard when they repo your car they damage it. So on top of you having to pay to get it back, they steal your items out the car and put dents all over it. Not all towing companies do it, just some I've heard.

Reading here makes me wonder if anyone has a savings account anymore. I know the national savings rate is disastrous but folks should have money put away for unexpected problems.

A lot of folks think it's impossible to save money but I think some could save more if they made it a priority.

I know a few people that traded in their expensive vehicles for ones that they bought outright from their trade in money. They now have dependable vehicles to drive and no car payment! People need to realize when times are tough, sometimes you have to do without the luxuries.

Bobbin Robin, its really funny you say that they work for the State of Minnesota. I work for the state of Minnesota :) It was my AFSCME union steward who came through 3 years ago before we went on strike and then came through again this past summer before we went on strike 2 days after classes started that said this to me. She was dead serious about it too. Needless to say, AFSCME emails have long been blocked by me, and the Union steward knows better then to stop into my office anytime she is making her rounds. She only stops in to drop off my Union contract book every 2 years :D

It's so easy to judge. I wish the article had been more clear about how far behind these people are when they are getting repo'd. My first car loan was co-signed by a friend, and when I inadvertently missed a payment, my friend got a call (not me, they never bothered calling me at all - if they had, I would have realized that I had forgotten to pay it and paid it right there over the phone!), demanding payment or they would ruin his credit, repo the car, etc. This was 3 weeks late. On a 5 year loan, that was the only time I was ever late, and it simply was a mistake on my part. I wasn't not living within my means. I didn't not have the money. I just plain forgot. If they had just called me, I would have taken care of it. Instead they barge in shooting, scaring the crap out of everyone involved. It was really distasteful. Lenders are generally evil and almost never give people the benefit of the doubt. They should. Most people are inherently good and want to do right.
