There's no doubt there were out of town trouble-makers who wouldn't stop their ruckus unless arrested, but there were a lot of innocent people swept up in the mass arrest. My wife and I saw that while walking down by the river. While I'm thankful the police protected us, I also believe that were over zealous in their actions.

I witness the police being bullies and over using their power on innocent people! That is crazy the people are applauding them. When the RNC is over and the police use the same approach to innocent people walking you'll be calling for them to lose their job. Half of them pull the same crap that Fletchers buddies did. The little money the city made will be getting paid out in lawsuit settlements.

Stop blaming the dems for these people, once again look up the meaning of an anarchist, they are against all political parties.

Great reporting, way to neglect the fact that the police were firebombombing PEACEFUL protesters with percussion grenades, and also corralled them onto the bridge like a bunch of animals, with no option to leave on their own accord. They didnt have a permit, but it doesnt entitle the police to make war on its citizens. Watch the footage on the WCCO site, its unbelievable.

Everyone keep in mind the republicans pay people to visit these sites and post such drivel as "beat them all", "stinking anarchists", etc etc.

Also keep in mind the republican party pays radio announcers to secretly prop-up bush/cheney propaganda, harasses african american voters in Florida to suppress the Dem. vote, and has some of the most systematic racist policies in many states.

The republicans also have begun an unnecessary war propped up with lies and propaganda, and have major donors who own the companies who makes the voting machines (!).

This party SUPPORTS THE WEALTHY and cons the masses through TALK RADIO through FEAR!

Bravo! Great track record! And people wonder why there are protesters? THINK!

Even though the republicans are now out of town, I would keep that tinfoil hat on nice and tight for a while. You just never know...

Doubt you'll get much traction until there's another scrabble or klavern convention.

Oh, yeah. Those look like some dangerous protestors, all right.

Sarcasm aside, mob mentality affects police as well.

For all of those making comments about how those arrested "now have criminal records", I'd be willing to bet that 95% are released without any charges being filed. Take the example of the WCCO reporter arrested for absolutely no reason (The officer's response was "everybody is being arrested, we'll sort you out back there" which is wholly unacceptable by what I saw of the protest, especially regarding a journalist).

Those few that will have charges filed are probably already career protestors, and will likely wear this arrest as a badge of honor.

Also, keep in mind that, while you may be cheering on the police treating these particular protestors like this, think about how you'd feel if they treated a group you agreed with the same way.

My first impression is that I'd say the police reacted far more strongly than the situation warranted. I can't go off this one video, however. I'll need a lot more information to make up my mind. There could be quite a bit that I didn't see.

These idiot protesters think breaking windows of local businesses and destroying public property means they are making some kind of political statement.

Every weekend for the last ten years we have been coming to St. Paul for Dinner and Entertainment. No more, if this is how thw Police and Mayor are going to treat it's citizens we will opt for another locale, perhaps Minneapolis or Duluth for our weekend trips.
Good Andy stay home....The Saint Paul Police did a wonderful and excellent job during the RNC. Those that came ran amuck and now are sitting in jail or have citations and or felonies. I live here! I love it here! and last night sitting on our sofa in our comfortable home near the Saint Paul Tech we heard the gunfire and I was thankful that these horrid people are contained and the police are protecting me, my family and my home.

Please do not visit us again.

Sorry to hear you will not be back. I am sure you are probably just upset because your mask was confiscated when you were caught destroying our city. Maybe next time you should stay home and destroy your own town. Oh, dont let the door hit you in ...

This is pathetic that Minnesotans have behaved so immaturely! Their "protests" were conducted poorly and they think that disrespecting police make their case, I was embarrassed for them because it made them look like a bunch of losers! Those women that stormed the Excel Energy Center during McCains speech looked like they belong in a Mental Institution.
It was not all Minnesotians, a majority of these people came from other states to protest here.

I like how Colleen Rowley rips Palin by saying "the focus is on fake and phony and who can give this great speech and look the part." I couldn't have said it better....only about Barack Obama. Obama is articulate, good looking, and has done nothing in his short time as Senator. Palin is articulate and good looking, with an actual track record of accomplishment. Neither have much experience, but Palin isn't on top of the ticket.
