So my question is, if a dumb lady can sue McDonalds over serving coffee that was too hot, a burglar can sue a property owner over an "unsafe property", why cant a family sue the hell out of these sub prime foreclosures! Big Time Wrongful death Lawsuit for this one I hope. Poor Family!

Big Time Wrongful death Lawsuit for this one I hope. Poor Family! That coffee lady was not as "dumb" as is popularly believed. She won against McDonald's, at least in part, because McDonald's had a history of severely burning customers by serving its coffee at a temp that was *much higher* than the industry standard. Even though customers had been injured and complained in the past, McDonald's didn't do anything to fix the problem...that's why the woman was awarded punitive damages (that were later reduced via remititur) in addition to an award for compensatory damages.

How sad for her family to be forced to endure such a selfish thing. The tragedy here is that she was so attached to a "Buliding", that losing it caused her to believe that Taking herself Out would have some impact on a business that has nobody accountable, and thus nobody will suffer for their actions in foreclosing on her house. Such a waste.

Everybody knows that! It was not my point. My point was if that is a good reason to sue so is this Sub Prime lending mortgage BS

Such a waste. i agree that it is selfish, but also know someone who feels they have no recourse in a terrible financial situation...personally, take care of what you need/can take care of and carry on the best you can...where there's life there's hope, in most cases...but that's me...people don't all have the same strength or optimism or whatever it is that keeps others going...imagine feeling there is NO OTHER SOLUTION?? also, having been touched by near suicide...well, it's tragic for all

Q: Where in this article does it refer to sub prime lending practices? A: It doesn't. Before throwing out wrong statements and making erroneous assumptions, try reading the article. It's clearly a tragedy for her family. Is this really "News"? Not so much...

Sorry, but she had worse issues than a bad mortgage. They were losing the house and the husband didn't even know?? As for suing a company because YOU weren't financially responsible, well that's just silly.

Why do people say that she was selfish? She told her family to use the insurance money to pay off the house.. I think she felt "boxed in" and did what she did to protect her family. She couldn't see that the house is just a house and that people DO recover from foreclosures. People develop this kind of tunnel vision when they are suicidal. Its a tragedy because this can't be undone and her family obviously wanted her more than the house.

If you havent been paying attention to the news or anything something called "predatory lending has been creating economic and social problems in America. The Sub Prime lenders were not financially responsible in their decision making. FACT. Thats why all these companies like Bear Sterns and Fannie Mae are needin bailouts. Thankfully execs are finally starting to be prosecuted.

Don't worry about how bad the mortgage co. feels about all this folks. The Democrats will bail them out and they can unload the foreclosed home on Freddie Mac or Fanny Mae

Predators must have prey. When someone walks up to you and says that you can buy a $500,000 house, and you make $40K/year, it's up to you to do the math. If buyers don't feel competent to review their own documents (reasonable given the avalanche of paper these days), then they should pay a disinterested third party to review the documents for them. Rule #1 - NEVER trust a salesman. Would you buy a car without understanding the paperwork and signing 'because the salesman told me to'? Home ownership is not for everyone, in spite of the American Dream.

Some won't pay out on a suicide within the first few years after the policy was purchased, some won't pay at all, and others will pay after a few years if there is a documented severe mental illness where there is a high risk of suicide.

Home ownership is not for everyone, in spite of the American Dream. But with no money down, what's the loss? But if the home had gone up in value (and for plenty of subprime people this happened), I can see where there's a gain. The lenders had too much capital trying to get invested and people took the lenders to the cleaners. So, it's out of the house and back to the apartment. Big deal.

Correct Reality Check. People always blame someone else on their short falls. Doesn't anyone use their brain anymore. I think not. How does one, for instance, get hooked on charging say $30,000 to a credit card, and then blame the credit card company. And another allows a college student to even have a credit card if they show no responsibility. Jeez!
