I just read where Joe the plumber doesn't have a license.....he's a plumber's helper. Nice to have dreams, but I'm sure he wishes all this focus would go away.

As far as the $250,000.....Obama's plan increases by 3% on individual income on the amount over 250K. If a person makes $350,000/year, the additional tax would be $3,000......not bad on an extra $100K.

It is not a tax on business revenue, only on individual salary.

A small business usually has many of the following expenses: employee, insurance, building, equipment, supplies, utilities, vehicles, cost of goods, etc.

If, after expenses, the business owner pays himself $250,000 (or more), than that person is in the top 5%......congratulations!

How about some of the Wall Street crooks. The Lehman Brothers CEO made $480,000,000 in salary and bonuses during the last 8 years (60 million per/year)....and his company went broke, and the investors got zero! For people like this 100% tax seems fair!

People tend to forget that the Democrats have been in control of the Senate and House for the last 2 years and that is when everything went to hell. The Democrats in the 8 years of George Bush's presidency did everyting to screw things up so they could take over and they indeed did a bang up job of screwing things up. The Senate voted 99-0 to go to war against Iraq which they conveniently forget most of the time.
If I injected you with a bacteria eight years ago that slowly made changes in your body that you did not notice as cronic until now, would you say that you were sick when at the first sympom?

No.

When you DEREGULATE just about the whole financial system of the US Government, when government cannot keep in check the unscrupulous practices of profit-driven corporations, allowed to prey on an American public hungry for the best housing deal they can get, you can't point to those in Congress who have been in power the last two years.

That is a scapegoat.

They deregulated S&L's they deregulated banks, they deregulated oil, McCain wants to deregulate the healthcare system!

The last two years have been a mandate by American voters to rid themselves of those who wanted that across the board deregulation. But understand that you cannot undue in two years what it took SIX years to build!

And the beauty of this is that you have Republicans like McCain now saying that HE HAD NOTHING to do with it, that he is the MAVERICK who railed against these practices!

Is John McCain two people?

He must be. He must be the most blameless individual who has EVER walked the face of the earth! Like Palin looking into a camera and telling the world that the report that she was guilty actully says she's innocent!

Its a miracle!

Palin is innocent!
McCain is a REFORMER!

Praise the heavens and pass the moonshine, every scandel that we have seen come down the pike in the last eight years, is a figment of our collective imaginations!

Joe Biden vs. Joe the Plumber :

http://www.youtube.com/watch...

Joe Wurzelbacher is not a “real” plumber but Joe Biden is a “hard coal miner”???

http://www.suntimes.com/news/elections/119650...

THE COAL SPIN: In a speech at a United Mine Workers fish fry in Castlewood, Va., on Sept. 21, Biden told the miners he is one of them.‘‘Hope you won’t hold it against me, but I am a hard coal miner — anthracite coal, Scranton, Pennsylvania, that’s where I was born and raised,’’ he said.

A small business owner takes all of the profit from his business after expenses. He files a 1040 form like individual do and pays the full tax on the profits of his company makes because he is the company. He doesn't get a choice. If his small business generate $400,000 in profits he pays what ever the prevailing tax rate is for his adjusted gross income!
Your example on paying 3% on the additional 100k is a bit confusing. If a person makes $350,000 he pays the prevailaing rate their adjusted gross income. I have not seen where it tiers at $250,000 at one rate then go up in increments after that. I could be wrong, but I have seen that anywhere, including his website
Obama's tax plan will affect the small business owner, therefore the small business, because the owner no longer has an incentive to grow his business, and in fact will probably downsize his business in order to reduce his tax burden.
McCains tax plan is even more confusing because he want to tax heatlh benefits, which most people tax defer through cafeteria programs. So I am not sure how that reduces my tax either!

The Unites States Banking system was not deregulated. Not before, not now, Nope didn't happen.
Deregulation of certain financial institutions, not considered Banks and GSE(Government Service Enterprises) Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac were not under as strict a regulation as Banks. Might be a small technicality but I just wanted to point that out.
The philosophy of a Free Market is free from Government requlation and red tape. In otherwords the Big Brother syndrome. Were there unscrupulous CEOs who scammed money from hard working Americans? Yes! But how many CEO's are there that didn't. That still run huge corporations that hire thousands of people, who pay taxes and contribute the betterment of their community.
We obviously differ on our economic views and the causes of the current slide. I believe it is a natual correction that needed to take place. You believe the Government should have protected us and be held reponsible for not.

I'm not sure you're going to find too many countries that don't collect taxes. And even if you do, I'm not sure they value freedom the way we do here in America. I wish one of the candidates or countries could help you out. But unless you become President and exempt taxes for yourself, I think no one is going to make this happen for you.

This is what I don't get, why do people think that the more money you make it's your duty to pay higher taxes? I think that everyone should have a tax bill to pay, it should all be the same, it should all be equal, how much you make should have no bearing on it at all.

As a small business owner, in addition to state and federal taxes, I am subject to 15.3% for Social Security on the first $102K. After that I am subject to 2.9% self-employment tax.

The current tax on income over 250K is 36%. Under Obama's plan that would go to 39%.

Remember, these taxes are all figured after expenses, so they aren't as high as they appear. One can hire more people, invest back into the business, pay into 401K plans.....or heaven forbid, just pay the 3% and be glad you're company is in the black.

Joe Wurzelbacher may end up being the most embarrassed plumber in America when all is said and done. There are a few problems already with his story:
- He hasn't even bought the business yet, and claims he wouldn't because he might have to pay more taxes. Hmmm
- It is a 2 man operation. Sound like a $250K "Profit" business to you?
- He must have an awful accountant. If he plans to buy this 2 man operation, why wouldn't their salaries and other deductions be taken off the gross - lowering the gross income of a 2 man plumbing outfit WELL below a $250,000 taxable 'profit'?
- Joe already talked to right wing websites and had an agenda by bringing this hypothetical situation up in the first place.
- The only tax increase would be 3% mor on ONLY profits OVER $250,000 - up to $250K NO CHANGE. Taking the above mentioned deductions for salaries that would reduce the gross income of the business an equal amount, it's HIGHLY unlikely a 2 man plumbing outfit would ever NET over $250,000 a year. Even so, say it NETTED (not grossed)$300,000 (after deductions for salary, equipment, milage, equipment, etc) would only be $1500. And this is what's stopping him from buying the business?
Rules for License Exam in Ohio:

The applicant for a journeyman license shall have had not less than three years experience in performing plumbing work, which period of experience must have occurred during the five years immediately preceding the application for examination. In lieu of the experience required, the Chief Building Official may accept a completed education in the subject at a recognized trade school.....The Chief Building Official requires as proof of experience, any or all of the following: a. Letters from current and/or past employers verifying that you have worked in the years claimed as experience on the application. Signatures on all letters not on company letterhead must be notarized. b. Trade school will be given six months experience for each year of schooling. Attach certificates of graduation or notarized letters from former teachers verifying school experience. c. Proof of completion of an approved apprentice program. d. Copy or receipt of previous apprentice license held in the City of Middletown or any other jurisdiction, covering 3 of the previous 5 years...

Joe can be a plumber and not licensed if he is going through an apprenticeship process. He can't even apply for a license if he doesn't have three years experience. Under Ohio trades law, only the proprietor of a plumbing business must have a license. The owner then assumes liability for the work done by his employees -- who don't need a license.
In Ohio, the license is essentially about accepting liability, not about proven plumbing skills. It ensures that he hires people who know how to plumb.

But....Does Joe have enough foreign policy experience to qualify for his plumber’s license and when did Joe the Plumber stop beating his wife?

Too bad Joe isn’t a former terrorsist, then he could hire Obama and they could dole out millions together.
