I have a 5000 watt generator with lots of extension cords. I live close to Hugo, but don't know anyone there. If you know someone who could use it, send an email to johnkhoffman at yahoo dot com

No cost or obligation. I will deliver it and pick it up when they are done. Someone up that way did the same thing for me 10 years ago.

Pay it forward.

God Bless you! Pay it forward! But maybe you should just go to Hugo, because I don't know how they can contact you.

This basically went through our backyard. We could look out or back door and see houses completely destroyed. We were luck to have just very minimal damage. There is a lot of very bad damage in the neighborhood. This is a really bad situation. We've been forced to evacuate at least for tonight. hopefully they'll let us back in. We're just thankful that no one in our house was hurt and that we made it out relatively good. Some of the neighbors weren't so lucky and i hope they can get back on their feet quickly.

What does global warming have to do with this? Lets not make a disaster like this a political issue over an Al Gore fantasy.
What was political about the comment Phylis made? Do you think global warming is a liberal plot? You are right about tornados being a regular occurance in late May, but how about the winter tornados in Wisconsin. There is something amiss.

I'm glad you made it okay. Our prayers are with the families who suffered loss and damage from this tornado. I will never forget the summer I was working in a health care center and was trying to coax a lady out of her room during a tornado. She insisted on grabbing some candy out of her drawer right as the twister took a tree right outside her window. The health care center was not damaged, but went without power for 2-3 days that week-end because the administrator didn't do anything about getting the power back on. Being without power can really cause some hardships. It can really get you thinking about the random damage a tornado causes. You can get out of it with no damage and the house next door could be gone.

You know the weird thing is, it went pretty much through our backyard, but i don't believe we ever lost power. Though areas to the west of us who were unaffected by the tornado did loose power. its weird how that works sometimes.

Making a comment on a story about tornadoes in May, which is a normal occurrence, and relating it to global warming which has nothing to do with the story, is in my eyes, and attempt to make it a political issues. Like or not, global warming is as much a political issue as it is a scientific one. But it seems now that any weather phenomenon is somehow related to global warming. You'd almost think there was no severe weather prior to global warming being thought up.

Relatively speaking, this comment makes those about tornados seeking out trailer courts and subdivisions seem intelligent by comparison.

I guess tonight's frost advisories for the same area are also a sign of GW.

Maybe as early as later today, when the effected areas are made safe, the clean-up will begin. I think if you called the City of Hugo, they could direct you to a clean-up project that would welcome some help.
For now, it's a hazardous area; leaking gas pipes, downed electric lines, and unknown hazards from unstable buildings.

Interesting how you sidestepped the issue of the Wisconsin tornados. Keep that head in the sand.

I heard on the news this morning, if you'd like to volunteer to help with clean up, you are supposed to call the City Offices.

The City of Hugo is in the process of organizing volenteers, etc., at City Hall. Because of security and what have you, the phone number can not be listed on this site. Their Phone Number is listed in the phone book in the blue pages.

Any help, supplies etc, please contact them today.
God bless all.

You mean, like, all of the deniers screaming "See...it's cold today...global warming is a hoax!"? You mean like that?

Again...a lesson to all of us. This storm was on tv and radio for over an hour before it hit Hugo, plus the sirens went off. People need to keep their eyes on the sky and be ready to go to the basement. Sometimes with all the meterologists saying, "I see a hook echo" on radar, but no official spotters seeing one on the ground, we tend to ignore the warnings.

What's your point?
I believe the child who died was inside.
Most reports were from people in their basements. All the advanced warnings won't prevent property damage, unless you think someone can move thier house from the storm's path. Advanced warnings do, and did prevent more people from injury.

It is also important to remember that sirens are not meant to be heard indoors. A NOAA weather radio is an important safety measure for anyone living in the midwest. Tornadoes can hit in the middle of the night when you're not watching TV, listening to the radio, or possibly unable to be woken up by a siren. The weather radio's alarm WILL wake you up. I guarantee!
