It was a guy, then? I have 2 female friends who have bikes. I always worry.

So the previous 2 posts about loud pipes doesn't apply here, then.

Thank you linokid for your thoughts and comments. This was a friend of mine and there is so many unanswered thoughts.
To the others with no taste, please remember that this is a person with family and friends, this is not about pipes.... it's about a tragic lose...

Plain and simple, give the bike in front of you extra space. Most likely, the jeep or prius driver or both were following too close.
Anyone responsible for killing a biker should go to prison for many years.
I will never stop riding - Prayers to the family and my thoughts to all his friends.

I wonder what made traffic abruptly halt to a stop in the first place.

Sudden traffic stops on I-94 is an everyday event during my morning drive from St. Paul to Mpls. I've had my bike side-ways twice and have made a total of four emergency stops in the past 3 years on I-94 West. Usually near Snelling. I try to leave plenty of room in front of me, but you cagers are always cutting me off to get in front of me just to hit the brakes.

People, open your eyes, hang up your phones and pay attention to the road.

I won't even ride my Road King on the freeway during trafic hours. People are nuts, and inattentive during those times. I'd be willing to bet that a cell phone was involved somewhere too.

The traffic came to a complete stop because crews were out trimming trees on 35E south on the south side of St.Paul. Signs stating this were few and far between. I went by the accident after it happened, very sad. People need to pay more attention to what is going on around them.

I have to ask the question: was he wearing a helmet? If not, is there any chance it could have saved his life?

I'm so sorry to hear of this accident. I heard on the news that car accidents are down around the state but motorcycle accidents are up.

This is so sad, and so unnecessary. People, give the driver ahead of you room. Hang up the phone, relax and pay attention. I'm surprised this doesn't happen more frequently with all of us in such a huge hurry all the time...

Helmets are not magical. It makes no difference if this cyclist was wearing one. The driver who hit him was driving dangerously by following too closely. Because he/she didn't have enough room to stop safely, he/she killed the cyclist. I doubt highly that a helmet would have made a difference.

I agree, not just about giving the biker in front of you extra space, but about giving everyone in front of you extra space. I'm so tired of people driving RIGHT on my tail when I'm simply driving with the flow of traffic (i.e., there's nowhere I can go, no way I can go faster!). I also think as important as it is for drivers in cars/trucks to be aware of motorcycles, the motorcyclists have to drive defensively and drive smart. I see a lot who do, mostly the older guys/gals, but I see a lot of younger people on them driving like complete idiots - recipe for disaster.

In any case, I'm so sorry that this poor man lost his life. Very sad indeed.

I drove by this as the body was being placed into a hearse. Very tragic and troubling.

Let's be careful to blame here. If the motorcycle swerved onto the shoulder he too was traveling too close to the car in front.

People need to start paying more attention to the fundamental rules of driving on the road. We have a responsibility to EVERYONE to make our roads safer and to use more caution and patience when stuck in traffic. We should always be ready to have to stop suddenly for any reason. Give the person in front of you more room. It also allows you more time to stop quicker if need be. This would not only save more lives in the long run, but help lower our auto insurance costs. I would rather be stuck in traffic for an extra half hour or so than have to live with the fact that someone was killed because of being impatient or a smashed up vehicle and the headaches that came with dealing with paperwork, insurance agents, and possibly court.
