Why should a public utility company not be allowed to function like a business instead of a charity? Those people have mouths to feed too. OR they could go the way of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. That didn't work out for anybody. We all have choices how we allocate our resources.

In defense of my family and allocations of my resources, The pioneer press did not tell the whole story as I am the man pictured with my daughter Abby on the front page. I have worked all my life and in Dec. 2006 I was permanently injured in a work accident that required surgery. At the time of my injury, I grossed over 50K a year. After surgery and rehab, I went back to work at my regular duties. A MRI showed more damage and I was given a 20LB permanent weight restriction and my hours were cut down to 20 hours a week. This was a strategy to get me to quit so they could get off the hook for their Work Comp. Premiums. I worked with reduced hours until they had justification to lay me off saying the had no light duty work for me. The truth is,
they cut my hours and gave the work to another employee prior to my layoff. After my layoff, They posted my job duties on Monster jobs. How about this story get posted in the paper? I would like to be interviewed about this situation.I am not a advocate of corporate welfare either, but how about corporate responsibility?

Wait until cap and tax gets implemented. Electricity prices will rise dramatically giving the middle class the big tax increase Obama promised a thousand times would never happen.

You are the person who should be helped by this program. I lost my home and job due to disability and was helped last winter. Many people just dont pay their bill cause they know they will get help. there are always people who take advantage

Federal Funds = tax dollars = welfare

Why not call it what it is? There is nothing wrong with people finding themselves in a bad position and being helped.

As for public utilities acting like private entities...well, I guess that is why they call them PUBLIC utilities. They have been overcharging and gouging for decades.

If they are public, we should be able to know what their executive compensation is and fire them. Then we could hire 3 $50k a year accountants.

the goverment finds trillions of dollars to help out struggling banks and corperations(who aren't embarassed about it) and people want to point fingers at regular hard working people and shame them for falling victim to the same economic hardships and needing assistance from the same government, what's wrong with this picture.

P.S. I just lost my unemployment check at the casino,my wife and kids are gonna kill me.

Yeah, what the heck is going on with this picture? Fatcat bankers screw up, and are rewarded with billions of taxpayer funds -- and that's OK with many. A few ordinary folk have a problem and need help -- OMG! To Hell with those people -- we can't be uncaring enough, fast enough.

It is indeed an odd and distorted picture when so many ordinary folk support the top 1%, and turn so venomously against their own kind. Most are only a paycheck or two away from serious trouble themselves.

The situation perry finds himself in is a failure of society and government. People who work hard, support their family and pay their fare share in taxes shouldn't be abandoned by gov't and put down by people when they need some assistance. If you found yourself in a tough neighborhood and a mark for criminals , would you like a little assistance?????

Joe Blo is misinformed. I know the man. He's waiting for retraining benefits from work comp. He's never received a settlement. No matter what anybody says about him, he don't care. He's a strong man! His kids are great and never hungry! Why do they call you Joe Blow? Oops!!! Dumb question.

Jake. Joe Blo is just stirring the pot! It public record if he got a lawsuit. I'll check. Bet Joe Blo won't admit it if he's wrong. Those kind never do. Some people are cacklin hens and respond to rumors. Your right though, Perry had the balls to print himself in the commentary. Never seen anyone else that brave! Keep it real, not fake! Jake! You do know who this is? I saw you at Hals, right? Small world!
