By they, do you mean the City and the Police? By it- are you talking about gang violence?

<quoted text>So odds must be against you then when your driving in Mpls also ? I was there [mpls] a few weeks ago. At the Target center. Lets just say my 6yr old hasn't recovered fully from the evenings events. Not sure what scared him more the rude parking lot [non english speaking dude] or the mega times we were approched for money. He has no plans on ever going again. Cant blame him at all.
No, silly, I was talking about overall levels of danger to one's life. In the city, you have much better odds of being randomly accosted and/or shot, because of much higher population density and proximity to poverty. In the suburbs/country, you have much better odds of dying in a car accident because cars are going faster, roads are more poorly lit, more deer, and no one lives walking distance from their local bar.

Bottom line - life is dangerous no matter where you live. In the course of protecting your 6-year-old from one danger, you'll invariably be exposing him to another.

As a side note - Your child will, at some point, have to deal with a rude parking attendant who doesn't speak English all that well. And maybe even panhandlers. Learning how to deal with scary people is an important life skill (because life can be scary), and it's really easy to spot those that haven't learned it.

Pronouns mean different things to different people.
What you say is part of the equation. The Police are in a no win situation, that doesn't mean that they don't care or that they don't try to improve things.

I am very Pro-Police. My point is, when the police go after gangbangers, gang activity or suspected activity, the public screams foul, police brutality and/or profiling.

I agree. The public who scream foul probably have something to hide or have had a bad experience with the Police. But the problem isn't the Police- they do a job that I couldn't do and they do it as best they can.
I don't know if this kid was in a gang- the Gang Task Force probably knows. Its just dangerous to be a kid out at night in parts of Mpls.

Jesse was a good kid and i know that as a fact. Me and him use 2 play vidogames ect. He was good no matter what u say so just dont say that he was a gang banger because he was wearing a silly hat we have better pic of him. they just did not air them and I agree that u will have a better chance dying in the city but still he was just playing foot ball in his backyard how dose that make him in the wrong place at the wrong time they (the muderers)were in the wrong place they should not have even been in his back yard because think about it it was his back yard not theirs. He was doing the right thing he was an awesome kid my cuzin r.i.p. jesse we will all miss you jesse.

See thats where we differ. Your one of these Well that is how live is thses days we just have to deal with it. And I'm not one to just live with all the crime, gangs, the rotten non english speaking people. Thats not how it should be. But people just gave up. O well we will just have at live like this. NO you dont get a back bone and stick up for what you believe in. Life isn't scarry and my son will not grow up being afraid of it and the crime , gangs, ect who try and run it.

When are black people going to wake up and take accoutability for the actions of these FERREL youth. Enough already. Quit having kids if you are not going to take care of them and possibly have a father in thier future.

Oh I see...so it's only black people who have "FERREL" youth huh? Caucasians, Latinos, Asians and other nationalities ALSO has this dilemma as well so spare me with your stereotypes. And FYI the word is spelled "Feral". SMH

What are you talking about? Where are blacks mentioned in the story? Jesse wasn't black, so I don't know what you're posting about? The kid was gunned down with his family watching...How would you like to live with that for the rest of your life? I wouldn't...It's an awful story that can happen anywhere...

To this boy's friends and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I didn't mean to imply he was in a gang. You're right, if he was in his yard, he was not in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's terrible what happened. I hope they catch the people who are responsible as soon as possible and put them behind bars.

you know all these comments about what kids wear and how their families raise them have not a damn thing to do with the fact that his 18 year old life has come toan end. Honestly, what is wrong with all you people the children are our future no matter how you look at it and all your opinions on why this boy was shot is **** his family hurts just as yours would if the situation was on you so just remember it can happen anywhere and i pry that his soul rest's in peace as should all of you who have such strong opinions about someone you didnt even know.
GOD BLESS EVERYONE NO EXCEPTIONS

First of all, it's terrible that he was murdered. I feel bad for his family.
Second, I live nine blocks away from where this happened.
Third, if Jesse wasn't in a gang, some of his friends are (or at least claim to be):
