I would really like someone with the inside knowledge explain which factions are at odds here. I mean, if Olson's wife gets up before the convention, says she "asked for it," and urges delegates to forgive him, what's the problem??

This is a classic example of why the law needs to stay out of family martters as much as possible.

A husband and wife are having issues in their marrige. Mixed families, as most know, are hard to adapt to. Emotions are out of control at times, and tempers flare.
Instead of being left alone to work out their issues, somebody decides that intervention is required.
Bring in the Cops. "Somebody is going to jail". Somebody will be found guilty or forced to Plea versus risk a more serious conviction and $10,000's in Lawyer Money.
Who was helped?....who benefited?....Who has a customer.... and who is enriched?

The Victim advocate has a Job....The Cop has a Job....The Judge has a Job.....The Lawyer has a Job.....The Persecutor has a Job....The Jailers have a job..... The various associated Government Employees have a Job

The accused is poorer, his family is poorer, his wife is no beter off and poorer (lost a breadwinner in the family), the Family Matters take longer to workout, or the Courts destroy the family, the children now have a fatherless home (Children more likely to have drug and sexual relations issues)

Why? to prevent domestic violence.

It aint workin folks. All that we have done is destroy families, and replaced the family with the Government Nanny State support.

I do not know the numbers used to justify the law that says, "somebody is going to jail" in Minneeesota. If the numbers did exist they would be generated by the same Government Employees that need Customers to keep their jobs....so I wouldnt trust the number anyway.

Without the numbers though, it can be assumed that "Violence" is a response predominantly male. If the objective is to stop Domestic Violence... then who is "somebody going to jail"?....yup Men.
Iwould guess that 90%+ of the criminalized partner in the marrige is the Male.

Even in this case, it was admitted by Mr Olsons's wife, at TRIAL, that she "carved up" his dresser with a Knife at some point in the marrige.

His conviction was for causing her to fear!

It makes my rectum tighten to think of my wife violently using a knife to cause fear in me!

But as a Male...I wouldnt tell my brothers about it, and as males, they wouldnt call the cops to make any allegation about my wife.

The Law does nothing to stop a human being that has decided to Kill or Injure.
What the Law does do is make a tough family situation worse.

Everything in the trial showed that Mr Olson was not/is not a violent man. He may have made a bad choice in his marrige, but he Law made his bad choice criminal. And it is sad that his political Brothers and Sisters did not stand with him because of fear of the Leftists' Politicaly Correct attacks that would have ensued.

He just needs to switch to the DFL party. A little slip like beating your wife.....Come on in, you were a victim, you just tell us all how you made a mistake, found the Lord, or were on drugs, and all is forgiven.

Slick Willy got his putter polished, and lied to American. He is treated like a rock star these days. Lord knows his wife could use an attention getter or two.

We need more political parties, more independent candidates, to run for office. The two-party system is failing.

What it basically comes down to is Mark has never been a team player in the MN House. He votes based upon ideology every time, not based upon how the party leadership tells him.

When he ran the local government committee, he had the committee rank all the bills in the order of most to least important. He did not use his power as chairman to block certain bills. He is the only chairman in recent memory who believes that the members are supposed to vote bills down, not one committee chairman killing something in a back room.

Speaking of back rooms, he also was an opponent of conference committees changing bills in the back room and bringing them before all the members on one up or down vote. He also opposed leadership made up of a handful of members calling the shots in the closing days of session.

Most importantly, and why he is disliked by so many in the caucus, is that he spoke up about these practices and how wrong they were.

While I offer no opinion of Kiffmeyer, it has to be noted for the record that she is a team player. She will vote with the caucus every time. This is why some will rally behind her campaign.

I would guess that what Mark is thinking is that is the will of the delegates the will of the party membership, or the will of the people as a whole. That will probably figure heavily into his decision to run as an independent.

You have got to be kidding! We don't need abusers in the legislature. How ignorant to think that a spouse was asking to be hit??

Get lost. Mark has been one of the most reliable conservatives in the Legislature.

Your post is another example of how the Republican Party is eating its own.

I agree with Mike, Representative Mark Olson is one of the most knowledegable and constitutional house members we have, The representative was thrown to the wolf pack by 'snooty faced Republicans,Then trashed by the "L" media his family is together and intact, An American family survives the politics. For the folks that enjoy listening to great debated on the house floor, I hope the fair minded folks in his district do not throw a wonderful and fair representative out.
Because I was tricked by the RINO Tinglestad I will support Mark Olson a representative not in my district for the betterment of our state and people that CAN be trusted.

Nanny State DFL Nazi, Brimley Kanaduh

You must have spent a lot of time with the 68,000 DFL socialist inspired draft dodgers that Kanaduh Hid out during the VN war, Representative Olson is the furthest from socialist democrats than any house member.
