Bravo to Bob Carrero for calling attention to the far too frequent use of dehumanizing terms, both in speech and in print.

I applaud Bill Newman's efforts to save, money by slowing down, and acknowledging that he does so in the RIGHT LANE. It's too bad more people trying to "save a buck" forget one of the oldest rules of the road: SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT. Maybe people should try this little test. If you look ahead of you and it looks like 2, 3, 4 lanes of open road, check your rear-view mirrors. If your left of the far right lane, and the lane of traffic to your right is doing the same speed you are, and the traffic behind you is stacked-up, and backed-up, bumper to bumper as far as the eye can see. MOVE OVER!!! It's not your job to be a vigilante trooper. Speed limit be damned. It's far safer to have some vehicles going over the speed limit and create safe following distances.

The gas "problem" is NOT about a shortage, it's about GREED and POLITICS!!! Why should I slow down and change my lifestyle to satisfy these idiots! Deal with the problem, don't kiss their butts!!!!!

As soon as Bill Newman said he drove 53 miles per hour on the freeway, you just KNEW what state he was from.

It's not so much that Norm Coleman's ad portrays him as being hero to organized labor as it is portraying him to being a hero to honesty, decency, and doing what's right.

Again, the ad in question is one of the most misleading ads I've ever seen. It absolutely distorts Franken's position. Then again, the GOP doesn't seem too interested in truth these days.

I think it would be a good idea for everyone to slow down a bit. I can't think of too many things more frustrating than driving with the flow of traffic (as in, you can't go any faster than the cars ahead of you) and have someone come up RIGHT on your tail. It's scary and also quite annoying. It makes me wish I had a McDonald's shake or a bottle of rotten milk to throw out the window at them. I should start keeping a supply, just for these sort of incidents.

However, if I am going 10 miles over the speed limit, passing the traffic to the right of me, it is not my responsibility to preserve your right to travel at an unlimited speed.

Great, just what we need, another word in the english language we can't use. I guess we'll just call it the "M" word. The guy driving 53 in a 70 mph freeway! I'd call him the M word!

Here's another one of the oldest rules of the road: DRIVE THE SPEED LIMIT. I get a kick out of the left-lane bigots calling others a "vigilante trooper" for driving close to the speed limit. Don't they realize they are the vigilante troopers themselves by scolding them for being in the wrong lane? They're either ignorant or have a lot of chutzpah. How much of your drive time do you spend in the right lane?

True, but decency would suggest that letting someone who wants to go faster than you pass would be the right thing regardless. After all, you don't really want that jerk behind you?

I couldn't agree more. The key is you are "passing the traffic to the right." By the way if you talk candidly, off the record with a State Trooper most will tell you it's best to worry about conditions, maintaining traffic flow, and a safe interval between vehicles than the speed limit.(within reason of course). In a perfect world you wouldn't have traffic on multilane highways side by side going down the road in one huge clump.

No doubt, there's plenty of that too. Many of them because they mistakenly feel that the troopers don't use lasers or radar on right lane vehicles and can avoid getting pulled over.

Hey Bill, how much TIME did you give up to achieve this? Did you get at least minimum wage for your savings? I doubt it.
