Nope, none of the above. I've just done a little methadone research. You should try it. It's quite enlightening.
Tired of this

"But the incident has the families asking why the counselor allowed such a narcotic near teens who have struggled with drug addiction, and why KidsPeace's supervision of them did not prevent the girls from stealing the drugs."

Here we go,already looking for someone else to blame. How about you blame your kids. They knew what they were doing was wrong. Unfortunatly they paid a hard price for it. But here is a BIGGER question, How did these 16 yr olds become addicts???? The parents want all these answers, but their the ones who poorly raised/supervised their children to begin with. Their lack of parenting landed these kids at KP and now they WANT ANSWERS!!! Another group of people that have kids and rather have someone else (i.e. Kids Peace) raise them. They stole them, they were wrong! Counselor should have been more aware of where the pills were, but it doesn't mean the girls are not to blame as well.

The counselor made a very big mistake by brining a controlled substance into the facility and leaving it accessible to the two girls. But the OD and death are not the counselor's fault. These two girls chose to steal the drugs to get high. The blame lies with them.

Why aren't these drugs locked up. When authorized for use the drugs should be checked out by two (2)medical personnel. I'm sure Kids Peace is receiving enough compensation to run the facility better. Also, let parents and/or guardians be more accountable too, don't blame your short comings on other people.

The girls and their families are and have paid the price, one of them the ultimate price. The counselor's mistake was bringing the narcotic there. I just don't think the counselor should be seen as someone with no responsibility in what happened.

Aside from the fact that these girls screwed up and stole medication that was not meant for them and then OD'd on it, now their actions and stupidity could very well cause the loss of jobs to many caring and dedicated staff at kidspeace, not college kids who grab a job to hold em over till they find "a better" job, but staff who have been employed here for over 15 or more years, who have very good records working with troubled kids, because of the stupidity of these girls people may be out of jobs........when will the articles reflect that?

They are children. They are there with adult supervison. The adults are in charge. They get paid to do a job. They make the decision to work there. The kids are there for help with their problems. They stay there to have help. The temptaion was there and they took advantage of it. They are minors the staff are supposed to be trained to handle every situation that arises. The staff is responsable and that is the bottom line. The kids are there to get help not get help to get high. Kidspeace needs to take responsibity for a change.

Last we heard, this controlled substance was in the woman's car, locked, so, when did it make it into the facility? If she had it in her car and they broke into her car, then when the remaining girl gets better she better be slapped with cuffs for breaking and entering, then theft, oh, and let's not forget stupidity

Yep, and don't bring methadone to KidsPeace and maybe no one else will die from it.

Lissa, have you heard how the girls knew it was in the car? Or if they broke into the car?

Oh, how you've been missed. I'm not sure if you know it yet, but you've reached celebrity status on the forum. It's good to hear from you. Hope all is well.

Katherine was a very good friend of mine and reading these heartless responses makes me sick. Okay, I understand that unless you’ve been in her (or any KidsPeace client’s) shoes then you wouldn’t know half the things we deal with. Sure everyone in the world has their own issues that they each individually deal with in their own ways, so I'm truly sorry that it upsets you that they stole. Unfortunately for any addict, we will go to all ends to get our “fixes”, even if it means stealing. Kat wouldn’t steal from anyone, especially not a staff. But because she was still in the early stages of sobriety, and acted extremely impulsively, she didn’t realize what she was doing was wrong and that’s unfortunate. I’m not pointing a finger or blaming anyone for anything. 1.) It was wrong that the staff brought the Methadone into a rehabilitation center where the kids are continuously struggling to stay clean after doing whatever the hell they wanted at home and are completely thrown off when they need to follow staff directions and actually do work in order to live a healthy life. 2.) They shouldn’t have stolen. I realize this. But again, this still falls right back into the fact that the staff shouldn’t have brought it, had it lying in the open, leaving the girls to be tempted.
I could sit here and say everything I feel about the whole situation, but it still won’t change anything. I just wish everyone that was commenting on this story could at least try and pretend as though they have a heart.
Unlike most of you responding so harshly and being so non-understanding, and not only because Kat was close to me, I will never forget her. She was a good person who’s life ended way too early for all the wrong reasons.

Great post, Megan. Thank you for making it and my condolences for the loss of your friend.
