You would think that fire/rescue would be on the lookout in every single call they get on this kind of holiday for stray bullet injuries.

Geez... I thought if I fired my gun in the air the bullet would just land on and stay on the moon.

What was it that Colorado Congressman said?

The paramedics on scene should have exposed the patient to find injury. If the patient was in cardiac arrest the chest area must have been inspected due to the fact the paramedics would have to place the ekg pads for defibrillation.
And if they placed him on a backboard the back should also be surveyed when logrolling the patient onto the backboard. Its hard to believe there wasnt a speck of blood on this patient. Id like to know exactly where he got shot? That would tell if a lawsuit is in order. If the guy was shot in the chest its a slam dunk for the plaintiff. If he was shot in the back it might be a little tricky, but standard of care here was definitely deficient. As paramedics , we are also investigators. The investigative techniques here were not good enough and this man died.
Well, Ken admits that paremdics make mistakes.

Is there someone can explain to me after a gun fire up to the air, when the bullet is free falling, how it is possible to kill someone? what the top speed it can reach?

I never could see the point in setting off any type of explosives in celebration. How about just dancing? Nobody ever got killed from a stray leap. It's good exercise, too. Ban guns and explosives, promote dancing.

A homicide investigation is on the way. What kind of lead do they expect if they did not even realize what happened initially. This is a long shot BS.

This is very sad - but I too have to wonder how NO ONE noticed that the man was shot. I mean... taking a bullet MUST leave SOME kind of marking, bleeding, something. Now I am not saying lawsuit cause he was dead when the paramedics got there, but still... you would think at least 1 person would notice that the man was shot.

Obviously someone saw who fired the gun. When you shoot a gun in the air you are not alone. You do it in a group of people celebrating. And yes, there were multiple people shooting guns in the air. If everyone who saw a jackass shoot a gun in the air New Years Eve told the police who it was the murderer could be apprehended.

All of south Florida needs to be wired with sound reconnaissance microphones which can locate and pinpint where a gun shot originated. The systems are up and running in oter cities.

Sad story.......

If he was struck in the top of the head from a descending projectile they may have thought the injury was from striking his head when he fell. It's highly possible there was no fault by the EMTs at all. Are you an ambulance chasing lawyer?

It was proven that a free fallin bullet (shots fired straight up and back straight down) does not have enough velocity to kill someone. This bullet must have been fired at an angle to continue its velocity as it was making its way down.

Who are you the Medical Examiner? You would like to think the papramedics screwed up, but the incident occurred at a party with party goers. If the papramedics would have exposed the patient. Exposed interesting word to use. They would have been seen as callus and uncaring for the family and friends at the party. The Medical Examiner had to release the body after a doctor had to sign the release. By the way not all gun shot injuries are that apparent, small holes from small claiber and very little blood. Of course the real problem isn't the jack a## who shot the gun. No, we should all take out your guns and shot them in the air. Maybe you like to take your narrow point of view and think about that??? Just another Monday morning quarterback.......

The bullet entered his shoulder and lodged under the left clavacle. The wound looked consistant with brusing from falling backward and had very little blood. There would have been no way to detect the bullet other than an xray or autopsy, in this case harvesting of organs.

Makes you wonder about the abilities of the police and medical examiner, eh? I mean, really, no competent ME or detective misses a bullet to the head. Oy ve! Is the excuse that he was wearing a party hat?

It all depends how the gun was shot if the gun was shot at an angle (like it appears to be in this case)the bullet was traveling in an arched direction sort of like an arrow being set of, it becomes a deadly missile as oppossed to shooting straight up in the air where when coming down can still cause harm but death is unlikely since the speed of it is not at a penetrating impact. Gravitational rules apply...

The bullet entered thru the top of his head. Remind me not to get sick or injured in Plantation-the paramedics there suck!!!
