What's worse? An abortion that kills a living being, or a family that consistently pops out kids cause the can't figure out how to avoid pregancy - then lives off the states welfare system. Welfare that's paid for by our taxes. I don't believe in abortion unless it was rape or incest. The younger generation is treating pregnancy the way hollywood treats marriage. Like a part time job. Like then can drop it anytime without consequence.

Generalizing all people younger than you will shut off a conversation faster than anything else.
We're not all having abortions or unintended pregnancies. In fact, teen pregnancy is at its lowest level in decades. Neither abortion nor living off welfare for a lifetime is an ideal thing for anyone. But "welfare" sometimes means a person is disabled and that is not going to change. Welfare is also designed now to be temporary for those who are able to work, so no one is living off it for a lifetime. They people who COULD live off it for a lifetime were older than me, maybe your generation. The younger generations are improving, mark my words! We're going to acknowledge and stop climate change, end this stupid war that the old white guys started, bring the economy back and we're going to elect a president who can do better. |
|
Have you been to "the projects" in Fitchburg? It's mostly people who have a bunch of kids and don't work. Yes most of them are the 'older than 30' generation. But most aren't disabled either. Their excuse is how can they work when they have kids to take care of. Didn't stop me from working. I wasn't generalizing the younger generation, but I do see this issue everywhere. Maybe watching adults make stupid mistakes will tip of the teenagers on what not to do. Growing up on welfare because the parents are addicts or just lazy would be embarrassing.

This is one of the most ludicrous editorials I have ever read. Suggesting that one of the reasons against abortion is to increase the population to subsidize the social security system and the work force is a joke. This woman has the cranial capacity of a scallion and should probably be euthanized.

It's not worth debating with someone like Rose. She spends her Sundays at church and hasn't spent a day working with society's rejects. Spend a year working in law enforcement or human services and then let me know what you think of abortion.

I might have a better solution... force them to have their tubes tied if they start popping out babies to generate more welfare. You fix the problem without killing babies.

OMG! My sister has two flat screen TVs! That means she's had 2 abortions!
Not that Rose is ever going to read this, or even understand it, but what does allowing a woman to control her body have to do with welfare or owning flat screen televisions? It's something that the conservatives and religious right will never understand. You only have as many kids as you can afford, and if you don't want kids, then you need access to the best birth control. No birth control is 100% effective either. But then again, their idea of "sex" education is the same as Nancy Reagan's idea of dealing with drugs, "Just Say No". And we've seen how well that works. Human beings are sexual creatures. Sex is just not for reproduction. If it was, then we would be like other mammals and there would be mating season, and not the ability to have sex whenever and as little, or often as one wants. With the millions of people in this country alone who live below the poverty line, with the multi-millions all over the world that can't even put food on their table (even if they have one), it doesn't make sense to force them to have more children because of some draconian idea that a woman cannot be in charge of her own body. It amazes me the number of people who feel that they should have the right to tell a woman that she can't control her own body and terminate a pregnancy for whatever reason but yet once this unwanted child is born, they don't want anything to do with making sure it's raised healthy and happy. They wash their hands of both the mother and child. Oh, and Jackie - was does marriage have to do with with this? Why should anyone stay married to someone they no longer love or even like? Unlike other mammals, humans don't necessarily mate for life. Nobody should be forced to stay in a marriage they don't like. |

Yow.
It's like she took every conservative talking point she could find and crammed them all into an abortion context. Welfare=bad... which I guess is related to abortion in some way? Illegal immigrants blah blah.... Because all those unwanted children would love doing below-minimum-wage jobs! Government controlling the young... I can't tell if this is supposed to be good or bad. I assume good. Complaining about people having cell phones? Seriously? Is it antiabortion day at the Sentinel or something? The stupid is just overwhelming. |

McCain recently made a campaign pledge to appoint judges that would overturn Roe V. Wade. I think the author is trying to stir up the religious "wakos" as Abramhoff / Rove / DeLay referred to them and try to get them to rally around the musty old guy. |

Anyone ever read "Freakonomics"? The guy points out data which may or may not be linked, but in novel ways.
He did point out that the national violent crime drop of the late 80's was just about 18 years after the onset of safe and legal abortion. Dismissed as coincidence? You decide. The stable, married couples who can give a wanted child a loving home and place in society are not having abortions. |

The author seems like a small town second rate bigot. Morality questions aside.

I just love reading whack-job q-tip opinions that are out-dated. My wife had an abortion when she was 20 before she met me. She had it because she knew she didn't want to spend the rest of her life with the father. She did it for her own well-being, which was the best decision she's ever made because she finished college and got a great job. My mother kept her first child at the age of 16, been married three times now. She's a wacko and ditched everyone in the US and moved to Australia. Which one is the better path?

this person is retarded. think before you write please. you probably should have got aborted.

People Please...
I believe in abortion for the right reason... Some people look as having a child as a blessing. Some people look at it as an accident or un planned and some look at as a pay check from either the father or the state which hard working tax payers pay for. Let's get out of our bubbles and look at this society. If your thinking of having an abortion than maybe you should think of adoption. They are many families that can not have children and would love to adopt. So the questions that should be asked are... Can I afford this child... Can I provide a loving home... Will the Child have a happy and loving home and want for nothing... Answer those questions truthfully and if you answer no to any of them then maybe you should have second thoughts. As for Babies having Babies... Wait till you grow up, life is to short for a fling and a lifetime of child care. |

"If your [sic] thinking of having an abortion than maybe you should think of adoption. They are many families that can not have children and would love to adopt."
Ah, yes. Adoption. Where you're chucking a child into the "system" in the hopes that they get picked in the great big adoption lottery system AND the hope that whoever adopts them isn't a whackjob themselves. Also, carrying the child to term -- so easy! So simple! So convenient! There's absolutely no stigma attached! Childbirth? Child's *play*. It's so easy, simple, and safe to pump out a child. No damage to the mother, no chance of injury, infection, or death. Anyway, all the anti-welfare crap? Typical privileged conservative white folks talk. Try actually looking beyond the propaganda to real research, real depictions of these peoples' lives. |
