Leominster Mayor Dean Mazzarella said the graffiti problem is something the city takes seriously.
"We usually jump right on this," Mazzarella said.

The problem is there is nothing they can do. I've heard first hand from the cops "If we do catch them they are under age kids that the parents don't care, or even know where the kids are half the time."

How about if the parents get tagged with the clean up costs and the kids spend the time in jail that it took the owner to clean his business - 10 hours to clean up, kid spends 10 hours in the Leominster jail house on Saturday no less. |

If a city employee spots vandalism on private property, the owner is immediately contacted , Mazzarella said.
"We don't want graffiti on a property, it looks like no one cares about the property," Mazzarella said. It's easy to go after private property owners. Point the fingers and make them clean it up (out of their own pocket). How about cleaning the graffiti off of the city property. There is still a "LB3" on the SkyView Middle School sign that's only been there for over a year. How about forcing the people who spray paint the graffiti to clean it up, along with the other graffiti that they may or may not have caused. How out of touch can the mayor be? |

How about this:
You set up a motion detector that is hooked up to red dye. When the sensor goes off it sprays this red dye on the vandals. Not only do they get caught, but they get to be publicly embarrassed even if they don't get jail time from the lovely legal system. I'd get a chuckle |

Weren't some kids caught a while ago for graffiti on
some public/private property? Were they punished, or let go, as seems to be the "norm" here when it comes to criminals. |
