What does Fitchburg need to turn it around?

I'd like to thank those of you that participated in this pole. United we stand.

We need to penalize the absentee landlords that allow the homes to be turned into crackhouses and slums.

We need to take out the scum, hookers, and drug dealers and put them in jail where they belong.

We need to have a better policing system, and get some honest hard working people who care on the force!

We need to have pride in our communitty, and the city needs to find/raise the funding to get this place cleaned up.

we need to make the city's youth responsible for thier actions, and make parents responsible for properly parenting thier children!

We need to get rid of the crooked COPS!

The only people I ever here complain about Cops, are the ones that have actually been made accountable for their actions. The ones that do what they want, drugs, steal, etc. How dare the cops take action !!!

Not everyone who hates cops is a thug drug dealer! There can be bad cops in the world!! Not all are good just like people. How about the ones who take bribes and payouts?? Get a life and open your eyes

I think the thing is Sonny, I tried but could not "pick" from the eight. Seems like eight choices would be enough but I think it goes to show, there are just so very many small connected things that are intertwined and NO ONE thing is gonna do it.

I am sure, talking about it in real terms and leaving the bashing and name calling out, will bring about many changes. Nothing positive ever comes out of a negative, ever. Positive changes result from positive messages.

There are alot of dismal cops in the city, overweight, ignorant, crooked, selfish and pityful examples of law enforcement. To protect and serve ? NOT! All the good vetran cops are retired and it seems all of the rookies went in too headstrong to follow the elder education.
Getting a new Chief from out of town would be the definate answer, not another in house example of what we have now.
Now that we have a fresh face in the corner office, more fresh faces and ideas should follow.
All the unproductive deadbeats on the city payroll, thats ALL city departments, union or not should go! Just drive around town and see how sad the conditions are!

Perhaps I'm thinking about "personal responsibility".

However, I do believe the public is beginning to see the difference between "fiscal conservatism" and "fiscal responsibility".

If we look to solutions that penalize those who willfully contribute to the seedy atmosphere and erosion of our community, we may start moving in the right direction. It seems sometimes that we reward bad behavior by accepting it. The absentee landlord and the long distant bank neglecting their foreclosed on properties have less to lose now by neglecting them than doing what is right and the law requires. By issuing harsh daily or weekly fines that reflect the community's outrage, we make the perpetrators of blatant neglect understand that our city is not going to allow their willful neglect of Fitchburg, without redress. The pedestrian ways are all clogged with snow this and many other years and look virulently trashy most of the rest of time. Here historically, responsible home owner, who take pride of place have understood that the sidewalk should be clear of snow piles and rubbish.
A student (FSC and FHS) community service program can be created to assist the elderly and disabled (those that can't do for themselves) in complying. Perhaps we can recreate an era of social responsibility that teaches and enriches us all. Perhaps we can raise some revenue and assert a community value system that unites us all.

I've got three bank owned properties right near my house, and they have crack head squatters living there causing all sorts of commotion at all hours or the night & early morning.

I have been robbed 2 TIMES in the last 3 years, and the policy seem bothered that they have to come to my house when it happens. The last time it took almost an hour for them to arrive after my call.

There crazy hookers in my neighborhood! One of them was walking naked in traffic on Water Street this summer! She's the one who burnt down the building down the street with her druggie pimp stealing copper pipe? WTF?

Every time I go to town hall to get recycle bins, I am told "we don't have any" I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THEM FOR THREE YEARS! I have a sense of responsibility to the environment and where I live, but obviously the town doesn't think it's worth it. I put my recycling out in laundry baskets, and people STEAL them! They're gone by the time I get home from work. WTF?

I have found crack vials around my street... Probably because there is a crack house up the street. It has been raided by the state police about 5 times in the last few years. Where are the owners of these houses? Do they NO KNOW that their tenants are selling drugs out of them? or do they just NOT CARE?

As long as the rent comes in the absentee landlord considers that they are successful. That may be their measure of success but without responsible upkeep and maintainence,(but most important know your tenants) they are not a success, they are scofflaws and deserve to be treated as such (fine the pants off of them).Same for the Banks that are allowing these properties to fester and to become havens for the drug addled and hookers.(fine them everyday for their willful neglect. A $150 daily fine should get their notice). The time is now!

Who will join this with me to present "the fine 'em
hard " solution.
