Gary Giron continues to ensure that you cannot ride a bike on any road his DoT maintains. This is done by lip-paving the shoulder, i.e., the final layer of asphalt is taken a few inches to a a foot beyond the fog line, creating a big ridge. This cannot be safely ridden on and is only done in engineering backwaters such as New Mexico. So next time you see a cyclist in the lane slowing you down rather than on a shoulder, thank Mr. Giron and his DoT for making the shoulder impassible. But they will replace the lights with LEDs. |

I gotta laugh. This technology has been around for over a decade. They were using these back east and in LA in the mid 90's. Granted, some improvements have been made but, WOW! The "Green" marketing machine is in full effect in NM.
