Can't the police and city council stop playing "we don't want to offend anybody" and clean up! This past month has been sickening. The mayors answers to these problems are rediculous. They don't need more feel good educating and lights, they need more get out of town or go to jail handling

Gang issues should be the top priority for the city. Not restaurants and bars.

This will only get worse the longer our economy is in the dumps the more broke people with nothing to do will resort to violence. Factor in the fact that it is so expensive to live in this area and you can assume desperation will soon take over.

Blame immigrants if you like but we needed people to wash our cars, mow our lawns and bus our tables. Of course those people can't afford to live here so they gotta live in groups 2-3 families in a house just to get by. Then when the bottom falls out and the service economy gets hit hard the poor become substantially poorer.

This is not to say poverty is the reason for the violence. But it will be a cause to the future violence. Stimulus packages and bailouts are only holding things together for a bit when things plunge again the middle class will be dirt poor and our current poor will be devastated.

If you think this is bad wait 6 months to a year. This economy is not in a recovery with no work and no hope how long til the already poor and desperate throw all caution to the wind?

It's a shame the awful state we are leaving this country in for our kids what will America look like in 10 years?

An airgun is not a firearm. Pointing it at people is wrong, but it's not a firearm.

Aside from a couple of exceptions, knives aren't illegal.

The police are trying. i was recently pulled over with my wife driving. They interrogated me as if I was a gang member just for being hispanic. They ran my name, it was clean and they let us go with a minor ticket. They're trying but it still feels ugly as **** for some of us brown people who are staying clean.

"Apathy with a view"
"Bums-R-US"
"Bangers n Bums"
Santa Cruz has turned into a Sh&T hole. I bought a brand new harley at Santa Cruz Harley Davidson in 1983. I haven't had a ticket in the 35 years I've lived here. Work, pay taxes, never been in trouble. Yet when I was riding it down the mall, I get pulled over for excessive noise. As the cop was grilling me about the loud pipes, he couldn't hear my response because of the guy banging on the tamborine in a doorway yelling "Smoke on the water..." He just looked at me and said, "consider this a warning!"

Welcome to Santa Cruz , where Racial Profiling is not only taking away civil right , its a way of life ! Thers gotta be some way to avoid this , yet still address the gang issue on the streets . But apparently we just havnt figured out what that way is yet . Hopefully someday soon though .

Exception...Concealed ones of a certain length. And switch blades. Normal law abiding citizens don't normally carry knives around.

Actually I think we woulde have to go with the opinion and witness testimony of the person who was there shouldn't we ???

I believe he was referring to the gang member kind of questioning actually and how demeaning in fact possibly racial profiling that action was .

If you read the comment it doesnt say anything about getting pulled over for being "brown" but in fact does say he received a minor ticket.
