Has the Belmont-San Carlos Fire Department board ever heard of the terms layoffs or pay cuts? These firefighter folks are being given huge pay, benefit, and retirement packages. Maybe they need to take a serious pay cut so they can keep their jobs.
The taxpayers have spoken and they said that they want fire protection services at a fair price.
That is all great but here is the situation. These contracts we get are based of comparables at the time the contract was signed. It it not the fault of the cops or firemen in any city in any state. It is the fault of the city and states themselves. They tax and tax, and spend every dime they take in. By living off inflated equity this is what happens. We have mandates to abide by, it is not as simple to cut fire and police services. these are not 9-5 office jobs, we work 24 hours at a time, some departments do 48 on 96 off. We understand the concern, most of us are willing to give up something to save felow firefigghters or police officers jobs. But when a house burns down, or someone dies from a heart attack or get robbed who is there to help? cops and firemen. And when there is less of us then what? When you pay your taxes you pay for services, so what your saying is you want to keep paying taxes but it's ok to reduce the services your paying for.
