I think our attitude of assuming that the suffering of other animals cannot be taken seriously is a form of prejudice, with a similar psychological basis to prejudices against groups of humans.
Once we overcome this prejudice, all it takes is a glance at any of PETA's websites, like MeetYourMeat.com , to see that the suffering we cause other species today is comparable to that which we have caused members of our own species in what we now consider the darkest periods of human history.

I agree I would never go to a circus or I would never eat at KFC. Sorry I like what PETA does. I do eat meat but only from humaine natural farms

Sorry, I am not a breeder! I've never bred a litter of anything except dust bunnies in my life. In fact, I'm a RESCUER -- every cat I've ever owned has been a stray or a feral. and they all live happily in my house. But even if I were, why does PETA kill upwards of 90% of their intake, when the local municipal shelters in their area adopt out 2/3 of all the cats & dogs they take in? What's PETA need a walk-in freezer the size of a house for, if not to keep the bodies of the animals they kil from stinking up the area more than PETA's mere presence does? I'm not afraid of the truth. If you aren't either, then check out this website: www.petakillsanimals.com and read the true facts about PETA. |

Samuel.. you are obviously not a pet person .. the term is spayed.. a spade is a shovel.. and that is what you will need to shovel the "cr** that PETA spews. It is NOT a choice between starving to death and KILLING. There are many othere choices that PETA could make.. like finding homes for some of the animals brought to them. Do you really believe that every single pet PETA KILLS is starving. If you do then I have a bridge I can sell you .. cheap.. If your rational works.. and "a life is a life' then all starving HUMANS should be KILLED too.. is that what you think..? Some say the world is overpopualted with humans and if as you say "a ife is a life" shall we kill people too until the "popualtionis under control"?? now really Samuel .. think before you write. And taek a course in biology.. and logic..
as for Michael Vick..he was prosectuted under the color of law. PETA had zero to do with Vick being in jail ( where he should be) PETA cannot effect any laws. THANK GOODNESS.. tell me Samuel.. do you have any medicines in your home? have ou ever been in hospital? Take any drugs to keep your self well? PETA is against ALL forms of animal testing and yet when your fearless leader broke her wrist ( propably lack of calcium)did she refuse any drugs tested on animals? NO SHE DID NOT.. in fact she said "thank goodness for pain killers" ( all tested on animals.. If I had been her doctor and knew how she felt I would have assured her that nothing I was giving her was animal tested.. and allowed her to be in pain..that is what PETA wants for all of us. Get a life.. a real one. PETA.. the ultimate in hypocracy |

(quoting Claudine Erlandson) "the animals are in very good hands."
Those "very good hands" kill 97% of the animals they touch. Very good hands? Not hardly. |

Sheila isn't even close to being a breeder. I've know her for several years. She simply knows the facts about the animal rights people like PeTA and the HSUS.

NO Sheila. If YOU want the truth and are not afraid of it, then YOU go to THIS site before spreading other people's lies around.

Jenn, based on your responses, you probably donate quite a bit of money to PETA. Learning what they do with that money may be hard to swallow and that's understandable. But the fact remains and IS Public record that for the 2006 year, PETA did indeed kill 97% of the animals in their "good hands" Dr. Kevorkian also had good hands. he was a board certified Medical Doctor. Perhaps looking at both sides and seeing which has facts that can be checked would be a much more objective way to approach this. you might also ant to check out PETA's financail "donations" list to see which KNOWN ecoterrorists are receiving cash. when in doubt ALWAYS follow the money. |

I don't buy into the lies that when i bought a pure bred dog, that a shelter dog dies - for one thing I am not interesting a huge unruly dog, as I have a certain breed that I love
Shelter dogs die because shelters are not willing to go the extra mile to find appropriate homes for the dogs they have. A pet is a life time committment, and if one gets the WRONG kind of pet for their life style, then that committment is kind of hard to meet. One example would be a cute little puppy of UNKNOWN background that grows up to be more than the adopter can handle, as it turns into a large dog. Or lets say the cute little puppy of UNKNOWN background grows up to weigh more than a person's landlord will allow for a pet. Better to get a dog with a known backgound...of course then we have rescues and shelters who STEAL dogs from breeders saying that the dogs are mistreated and in poor health and then go on to nearly IMMEDIATELY sell these pets to the public at nice profits and get nice donations because they stole the dogs from a breeder. Funny how the dogs suddenly become healthy enough for adoption, but were supposedly sick and ill treated. I wonder sometimes if shelters get waiting lists for certain types of dogs and they find a breeder to bust, trump up some charges, go in and ruin the place, take phony photos, and then make scare the breeder into signing over the dogs. THEN they can fill their ORDERS for that type of dog. Seems plausible to me - with all the small dog breeders being busted, and the popularity of small dogs, hmmmm. And I am not a breeder, I am just a regular pet owner, a shelter volunteer, and a person who thinks. |

PeTA is great at getting attention to the suffering of animals, and they are great at offering solutions to that suffering. I've watched them grow from the outlandish antics to more sophisticated forms of activism. They have become more effective every year.
Unfortunately, one solution to reduce the pain of shelter animals was to provide them with a less painful death. I would rather have these animals collected and put to death in a relatively painless way than gasses in suffocation chambers at out-of-date animal control offices in poor rural counties! Compassion isn't always a bed of roses and a warm blanket. Some counties in California (and elsewhere) are no-kill counties. The fact that there are unwanted animals to rescue from Puerto Rico is proof that there is an overpopulation problem. If there weren't an overpopulation problem, there wouldn't be unwanted pets to rescue and transport across the country! Anyone who tries to twist that into proof that there isn't an overpopulation problem has an ulterior motive (like trying to reassign the guilt they feel about the oppression they support by buying animal-derived foods). For anyone who wants to see the advertisements some are discussing on this board, go here: http://www.peta.org/feat/abc/video1.asp The posters railing against PeTA want you to read their biased opinion rather than forming your own opinion. I want you to watch the video and tell PeTA what you think. |

Yep, kill Peta kills 97% of so of the animals they take in, while shelters have to import from other countries so they have enough pets to sell! Real strange if you ask me,
What of the lack of vaccination and health standards that these other Countries have? I have heard the horror stories of the diseases that these imports have brought in. Breeders don't kill unwanted pets, it seems to me that PETA does. STeve are you saying that the state of 'Virginia has somehow lied when publishing the PETA kill stats??? Why doesn't PETA send these unwanted pets to states that are begging for pets, rather than kill them? The answer is that it would probably take too much money from this multi-million dollar organization. And it does take more WORK to re-home these unwanted beings than to simply inject and kill. Shame on PETA, they kill adoptable dogs and cats, but criticize and harrass innocent people for eating meat. How does one spell HYPOCRITE? PETA of course. |

Don't believe everything you read. This site is run by the CCF who is paid to discredit animal rights groups, environmental groups and human rights. They even have MADD and Heart and Stroke on their list of enemies. They are paid by the food, alcohol, and tobacco industries (to start) to lie to the general public to ensure that customers stay on the death path for purposes of profit increase. To them money is more important than life itself - even yours. What they don't realize is there are humane alternatives and there is money to be made in compassionate capitalism. Do some research before you use "the real truth" to start off you next post. |
|
|
Does this mean that the State of Virginia when reporting the PETA KILL rate is also being bough off?
Why does Peta kill so many dogs and cats? Why don't they do the work and effort to send these unwanted animals to states that are literally begging for pets? OH, yeah, Peta believes that pit bulls should be killed "for their own good" - as well as feral cats. Peta is the ultimate culture of death. |
|
Sheila, Many of the dogs flown in from Puerto Rico, etc. are rescues that have no shelter to go to on their "home turf." Are you implying that a Puerto Rican homeless dog is less deserving of adoption than than an "American" dog? It's silly to think that profits are motivation for shelters to accommodate animals in need. You are welcome to visit your local animal shelter to see for yourself just how "luxurious" and profitable they are. |
|
Why don't they concentrate on the dogs closer to California that need home FIRST? Why bring out of country pets in when there are animals dying all over the US for lack of homes? Doesn't PetSmart have a program to do this very thing? Why don't these shelters get involved with saving the animals in the US before they bring in unvetted, diseased animals from foreign countries? DON'T BLAME THE BREEDERS WHEN SHELTERS WON'T DO THEIR JOB! Isn't it that it is just more glamorous and easier t adopt an animal that is "from a foreign country" than one who came from the high kill shelter in the next county??? More glamour means more donations!!! So you are saying that foreign dogs have more right to live than the ones here in the USA that are dying every single day? |
|
|
And for your information, unskewed view, all shelters are not created equal, yes there are some very old, dilapidated shelters, who function on a shoe string, but there are many shelters that would be mistaken for a modern vet hospital.
I have visited and volunteered at both. Typically the shelters which are modern and nice and well staffed and "pretty" are the ones who receive the unwanted dogs, while the old, down trodden ones are in the parts of the country where their is a huge pet overpopulation problem and the are the "sending" shelters once they get involved with saving animals lives instead of the culture of death.(PETA, HSUS) But my question is when there are dogs being put to death in rural shelters every single day, why are people like PETA pointing fingers at breeders and saying that they cause the death? The problem is that is is easier to kill than to save lives. Shelters need to network with one another, get hooked up with national programs such as PetSmart's Rescue Waggin, and do something proactive to save lives. I cannot see any justification for a foreign import when there are animals waiting to be adopted here in the US. What I do see is the culture of death and despair among shelter workers, which is reinforced by well to do groups such as PETA and HSUS, which in reality have the funds on hand to do something about the problem, but chose rather to reinforce the death angels. |

PETA is a bunch of hypocrites...Just how many of these " animal rights activists" also support Abortion?
