This is such a random event. I can only imagine how frightening it must have been for that poor woman. What would cause a ray to do that? A predator?
Oh please

Just wait until GMA and the rest of the morning shows gets a hold of this story ... they'll be calling for a hunt of these 'killer' rays.
We do a lot of boating and we've seen several of them come up out of the water. It's just what they do sometimes. I've also seen them while diving in the Caymans .. they are not a predator.

The area near duck key have lots of these rays swimming around just stop by the bridge overlooking duck key marina and watch them better still bring a fishing pole with a snag hook and start swinging.

It probably knocked her down and she must have hit her head..

It would have to be in the right position to be able to kill her with the barb.

Or maybe gave her a heart attack seeing that big ol thing coming out of the water. Dang!!!

Talk about luck. If it wasn't for bad luck, she would have had no luck at all.

Appears a large number of readers think this woman's tragic death is comical, something to make a joke about. Well the joke is on you sorry insensitive losers. Just hope no one ever needs your caring or compassion because it is very obvious you lack the character those traits represent.
Now please crawl back under your rocks.

This is sad news to hear so close to beloved Steve Irwin's death even if that was almost two years ago. I hope that this type of thing doesn't happen to anyone else because it is a true tragedy.
