'I'm not a racist, but . . . '

Hate happens in unusual places. As an undercover hate crime researcher, I found it in the expected locales - Klan rallies, skinhead parties and neo-Nazi meetings.

The bias exhibited by this "academic" is breathtaking. The fact that "anti-Christian" or "anti Catholic" hate crime does not even appear as a blip on his radar and that "white Chrsitian men" are the pricipal vectors of "hate crime" is appaling media propganda and not worthy of a legitimate news organization. And you wonder why "Newsday's" judgemenent is seriously suspect?

According to the FBI, there ARE anti-Christian hate crimes reported each year (the 1920s KKK was VERY anti-Catholic. Not so much now). However, the vast majority of hate crimes (both in the FBI data and research) are not anti-Christian. If you look at the data (at www.fbi.gov/ucr/ucr ) you'll see that anti-Jewish and anti-Muslim hate crimes by far outnumber all other religiously motivated hate crimes. Just Google "Christian Identity" to see the people who support the crimes like those in Long Island.

Actually most hate crimes are committed by minorities against Whites but we have been "trained" to believe that only a White person is capable of being racist.

Ller, I know that's the rhetoric of hate groups, but it's not actually true. Inter-racial crime is not "hate crime" just because it's inter-racial (most crime is intra-racial, by the way - white on white). If a black guy robs a white guy, it is not a hate crime. It's economically motivated crime.

I agree with a lot of what you say. Unfortunately you go too far, at least this is what I feeel. For one thing a true Christian would not do a hate crime.God forbids it.We do uphold our rights that are being taken away so that other religions can be proclaimed. Whether they like it or not Atheism is a religion. By pulling down Christmas trees so as not to favor any religion attacks our religious freedom also.Putting Christians down for speaking out politically against gay marriages goes against our freedom of speach and freedom of religious beliefs. We do not hate Homosexuals(or shouldn't) We disagree with allowing it to be legal. They have a right to fight for it right? Well we have a right to fight against it. It has nothing to do with hate but a freedom to speak out what we believe our country was founded upon.God's Biblical rules. Everyone has the same rights. You can't give others rights then condemn the Christians for having the same right!Loving someone doesn't mean agreeing with another 100%. If you are married you will agree with me right away. Your children fight for what they feel their world should be like in the home. You decide the outcome. So the world has many different children from many different gods, all trying to have their world have a certain outcome. We have that right to try, Without hurting anyone else.

Randy strikes me as the kind of "academic" who'd write his thesis before acknowledging his own political bent. Much like how Newsday currently operates, no?

Would Randy bother to tell us that members of these "victim groups" are by far much more imperiled by members of their own ethnic enclaves? No. Of course, no mention of the brutality concerning black-on-black crime. This information would Randy's thesis - in comparison - completely irrelevant.

So let me get this straight - Bill O'Reilly and Fox News are sponsoring an Olympiad of sorts where the featured event is knocking down menorahs put up by gay Jewish Hispanics?

Lisa: I completely agree with you, but the Ku Klux Klan, Arayn Nations, and others (inculding the late Timothy McVeigh) call themselves Christian and consider the Holy Bible to be a racial document and many mainstream white Christians think God is a white man.

Andreaux - hate crimes are realtively rare compared to other types of crime, like domestic violence, which are primarily intra-racial (mostly white on white). This was an article on HATE CRIMES, so your post makes no actual point.

JB - I think you missed the point. Political operatives, like O'Reilly and Gibson, promote an ideology that the "American way of life is under attack," by various groups. The hate criminals use that as a justification to attack the alleged source of the threat. Fortunately, O'Reilly has a declining audience. I was on his TV show once and immediately was phoned by a convicted hate criminal and head of the California KKK who wanted to defend him. That's his demographic.

I suppose that reasonable people can differ, but it all depends on how one defines "hate crime",the personal bias of those making the subjective call on whether or not a reported crime qualifys as a a "hate crime" and the overall accuracy and size of the sample. It makes absolute sense that the largest number of "hate crimes" will be committed by the largest (but self defined) group in a representative sample.Duh?
However, the sweeping statement you make related to "straight white Christian men" can only be seen for what it is- bias that delibrately misinterprets the data and is both "loaded" and extreme.

Why do you only target so-called hate crimes by Caucasians? Is this an anti "White" opinion piece?

You don't mention the numerous other hate crime perpetrators. Such as the Five Jewish teenagers charged with hate crimes for attacking a Pakistani-American man with brass knuckles in the Midwood section of Brooklyn and calling him a "terrorist," officials said.

You are not racist, no, you are simply anti-Caucasian.

We should all donate a few dollars so Randy can travel to Zimbabwe and help liquidate the last few White racist exploiters there. After Randy participates in the economically justified executions of the capitalist White farmers we can donate some more dollars to prevent starvation in the former breadbasket of Africa. Its a relatively small price to pay for social justice. Randy can then apply his practical experience from Africa to the redistribution of resources in the Willamette Valley. Social justice demands that the exploited mexican workers should collectively own the land that is held by the filthy White capitalist exploiters. Raise the red banner, death to the filthy Whites.

A perfect story for what makes Newsday's circulation rates dropping ever downward.

Yes illegal immigration is a huge problem along with the corruption that surrounds it.

Yes illegal immigration is a real threat not an imaginary or alleged threat.

No I'm not racist.Racism actual racism is abhorrant. A word so used by political partisans and zealots for making attacks on those who disagree with them, as useless in meaning.

Mexicans are basically like most human beings pretty decent. It's their corrupt government and business leaders and many who have billions of dollars in assets who are not decent people. They rather see their country's citizens risk life and limb to enter America and export back billions of dollars a year to help bail them out. Thinking of changing their way of not helping their poor and downtrodden doesn't cross their minds.
This doesn't seem to concern you at newsday or the far left people who relish our border as insignificant.

Could there be a reverse form of racism at work at Newsday ?

I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except
numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly
discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet
Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America.
Try to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud
Magazine, White entertainment Television, or Miss White America and
see what happens. Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door.

This has to be the biggest load of **** I have read in a while.
"Such people typically feel that the privileges they enjoy - by virtue of being representative of a majority race, religion and/or sexual orientation - are threatened. They fear being reduced to minority status and will commit crimes to stop change"
Yup, only **** can be racist. In that case every black crime with a white victim is a hate crime. Because the only reason why such a crime is commited would be racially motivated! That is the logic you are attempting to work with here. Here is one that will make Randy Blazak's head explode:
I am not a racist, but as a "regular" person I believe that we should all have a totally level playing field. This means that if a white man says "n***** " it should be looked down upon as if a black man says "n***** ". If you are black and your friends start to complain to you about some "cracker" at work, you should quickly inform them that racism is not acceptable in any form and in the future they should keep such opinions to themselves. This also includes racist diatribe that all black women lament whenever they see a black man with a white woman.
Sorry I won't take part in any white guilt trip. If we want to see an end to racism it is going to take everyone to get onboard. If any segment of society, no matter if they are the minority or majority, feels that they are singled out and forced to curtail their behavior, you will get this backlash that you liberals created.

There is a hate crime going on in Texas. A rapist is choosing victims based on their race, and raping them. Yet this is not considered a "hate crime" by the police or investigators. Why not? Is it because the rapist is black and his victims are white or is it because his is a black man and his victims are white men, therefor, getting what they deserve?

With that in mind, I won't trust an agency that is reporting these hate crimes for a couple reasons:

1. Minority crimes on whites are not considered hate crimes.

2. How many of these hate crimes are later found to be untrue are still collected by this group and kept in their data base?
