Thanks everyone for your inputs, I also have Kingdom Jerky from Costco, could not find a place of origin other than LA but, you're right..there it is under the UPC Code...CHINA...and it's not going in the trash..it's going back to Costco, maybe if we all return our possibly toxic products they have sold us they will get the picture. Best of luck to all, Judy

I've been giving my Dog the Waggin Trail Brand for a few years. Never had a problem and the dog loved them. Now with this recall, they are saying that they're safe. Yeah, they said that about numerous types of Dog Food too, which later on were added to the recall list. All that China loving Wal-Mart cares about is the almighty dollar. I checked the package on the treats, and in a little font at the bottom of the bag it states the Wal-Mart credo..."Made in China". Chicken Jerky? Can't we even produce this in America? Oh, thats right, not paying your employees 50 cents an hour might cut into your record profits, Can't have that...Wouldn't be "Bushlike" I hope consumers get hip to the true intentions of Communist China and there enablers like Wal-Mart, and STOP buying this Chinese garbage, which is sucking the life blood out of the American economy. Boycott ALL Chinese products. Believe me, they do not have your best interests at heart...either does Wal-Mart.

My bassett hound (two years old)loves Waggin Train Chicken Tenders. Two weeks ago about an hour or so after eating two of them she began to vomit so much she assperated the vomit into her lungs.$600.00 in vet bills later and lots of anti-biotics she is slowly becoming her playful self again. Never will she receice any kind of food from china or Wal-mart!!!

I'm not throwing the remaining bag out and I'm not returning it. I have vacuum sealed it and am keeping it as evidence.
I suggest victims of this type of thing do not throw the product out nor return it but rather vacuum seal it and keep it in the event your pet gets really sick or dies. There are already complaints and alarm coming in from all over the country all saying the same thing and the same symptoms - the evidence is starting to look overwhelming. People just don't get online from all over the place and start making this stuff up.
I will now get our purchase records from COSTCO to see how much of this product we had purchased when we lost our little Traci to Kidney Failure several years ago.
One thing about Costco - from my understanding they know every product you ever purchased from them and have it in a data base. Looks like that can come in handy in the consumers favor - for once.

I am boycotting all food products and make-up whether for humans or pets, any thing that can be ingested or applied to skin by a living organism from China until they have some kind of reputable FDA. I'd rather spend the money for my family and my pets than watch a slow painful death. Apparently there are no controls in that country.

My Papillion Tigger has been eating The Wagon Train Chicken Chews since she was a puppy, and has had no problem of any kind. This is what the breeder fed them and reccommended it as an occassional treat. My dog gets one every night so that her stomach is not empty all night which will also cause small dogs to vomit in the morning. My vet told me to never let the dog go to bed without something in her stomach to help control stomach acid, which in turn causes her to vomit. Before iake any judgements I will cut down the portions I give her and see what comes of all the hoopla.

Like some of you we use Waggin Train Brand (ADI Brand) from Sam's Club. I just went to the www.adipet.com web site and they are claiming their products are not part of the recall. We have two 13 pound dogs that have been getting the treats daily. So far no adverse side effects. We have stopped giving the treats, the dogs aren't happy but we feel safer. I guess we will wait 'til this mess is sorted out. Check out the web site...

We have been giving our dogs "chicken jerky" treats for at least a year now and have not had any problems. Including recent full blood work ups at annual physicals with no concerns. However, after hearing the news this morning I immediatly ran to check which brand we have. We normally purchase "The Kingdom Pets Original" from Costco (the much better deal) but on occassion have been known to pick up a bag at Wal-Mart for convienence sake. Taking a sigh of relief I read the bag a little closer and then took a deep breath when I read "Made In China" under the UPC barcode.
I went to the Kingdom Pets Website and here is what it said, "Please be advised that this company is an independent company and is not associated with Shanghai Bestro. Our chicken jerky are specially treated for Salmonella and they are Salmonella free. Our chicken jerky are safe and not on recalls."
As well as, "... please be informed that our chicken jerky is made of 100% chicken breast meat. There are no preservatives and contains no wheat gluten. They are salmonella free."
No where on the bag does it state that the product has been irradatied only that it was processed at tempature over 167 degrees and the World Health Organization deems chicken meat safe from Avian Influenza at 158 degrees. Now I figure I have another whole issue to worry about... If this truly a product that contains only 100% chicken breast -- how hard do you think it would be to make my own if I bought bulk chicken and dehydrated it like beef jerky? Anyone's thoughts??

We have fed our 9yo BoxerX mostly Science Diet all of his life. We gave him Waggin Train Brand Chicken Jerky Tenders from Sam's Club for the last couple years or so as treats. Our last batch is Lot No 94600. He recently had symptoms of an arched back and pain getting up and down. Urination seemed to increase his level of discomfort. The vet gave him a course of Prednisone and it made him feel better immediately.

At first I suspected the Science Diet because it was the newest bag of food. I called Science Diet with the batch number and they said they have had no problems. Now I suspect the Treats. I used to joke about chicken treats from China, calling them "Bird Flu Treats". It's not funny anymore.

I am sure Costco will soon be issuing a company statement regarding the Waggin' Train chicken tenders. The controversy over this product, and the large number of product returns will definitely get Costco HQ's attention.

Although China is a huge place, and has hundreds of thousands of factories making products for export to the US and the globe, it's truly surprising how "small of a a world" it is over there. In other words, I would not be surprised to learn that the vast majority of chicken strips and tenders made for the U.S. market (even under different brands) are made by only a few factories. It takes tremendous buying power to get that many chickens to make these strips, and it takes a lot of capital to buy the cutting and drying equipment to turn the breast meat into dried strips. Printing and packaging equipment are also very expensive. Therefore, in order to realize economies of scale (and greater profit), these few chicken strip factories may produce the vast bulk of the treats and then sell them to the various companies that put their own cute labels and artwork on their packaging. This is how it's done in China, the U.S. and elsewhere where products are mass-produced. So, therefore, just because the two brands that sold the strips to Wal-Mart have been implicated in this current matter, I am willing to bet that more companies that private-label their own brand of chicken tenders and treats will be named as distributors of tainted/hazardous chicken tenders from China. Look what happened with the horrible melamine in dog food recalls from a few months ago...dozens of dog food companies bought their wheat gluten filler from the same company in China.

The safest thing to do right now is to immediately STOP feeding your dogs any food products from China. Return the products back to the place of purchase and get a refund. Don't believe the press releases from the manufacturers that swear that their products are safe. Re-read their words carefully...they don't mean a thing if you dissect each sentence carefully. It's all gibberish written by product liabilty lawyers.

Read the press release 8-21 from Adipet. Their product is not one that has, or ever has, been recalled. Be sure you know your stuff before you scare everyone. See press release http://sev.prnewswire.com/agriculture/2007082... #

This is unbelievable. I read an alert about Walmart pulling chicken jerky and thought I was safe: "Wal-Mart Pulls Dog Treats Made in China"
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2007/08...
Then I googled the brand I had: "Waggin'Train Chicken Jerky Tenders" - what a shock.
Thankfully I only gave him the jerky treat on occassion -- mostly give him cooked chicken or Mother Hubbard Wellness brand food/treats.
What can we do - is there anything to nutritionally give to counter what the jerky may have done to his the system??

The Waggin Train Jerky Tenders are meant to be a TREAT - not a meal! See the bag - "Treats for Dogs". We have fed them to our labs for years as a TREAT once or twice a day, and have never had a problem. Our oldest lab was 14-1/2 years until we let her go (blind, Cushing's disease, etc) and her health problems were before we ever gave her a TREAT of Jerky Tenders.

Yes, be cautious about what you feed your dog, but be smart.... you would get diarrhea, too, if you ate junk food all day.

Holly you are so right. When I went back and looked at no time was ADI Pet or Wagon Train Jerky Treats ever mentioned. I do believe that 1:Wal-Mart approached this completly wrong and 2: the Press didn't check the facts before splashing it across Yahoo Fox MSN and all the others....It is a shame that we have to investigate to actually find out the truth and not be able to rely on the "Press" Good luck ADI Pet

There's a picture of the BESTRO chicken STRIPS bag in the article.
IT IS NOT WAGGIN TRAIN BRAND.
Read carefully before accusing certain innocent companies of recalling their treats and scaring everyone to death.

Regardless of whether or not it has been officially confirmed that ADI Pet Inc Waggin Train Brand is safe (except by ADI's own admission that they are safe) they are responsible for my two year old german shepard getting sick. She is currently awaiting further testing (after fecal, xrays, blood work, etc) she now has a fecal sample pending the search for salmonella (which has to be sent to a lab). Even though company spokespeople state that the brand is safe, does not mean it is. I will double check the lot number and post it. Mine were bought from Walmart. I have called Walmart and an assistant manager told me they have pulled all jerky treats, including waggin' train brand from our local store. Does anyone know how to contact the FDA, get the treats tested, and prepare for a lawsuit?
Can anyone share their experience in regards to vet work, treatment, and results of tests? She has been on two different antibiotics now, will not eat or drink much, has bloody tar like diarrhea, yellow vomit, and is extremely lethargic. Blood work showed slightly elevated enzymes in the liver but that was yesterday and she has been declining since.

Don't believe this press release. If you really want to tell people to know their stuff, you should know yours first. Contact the FDA, not just the food manufacturer (who is doing PR to save themselves). I did. WAGGIN' TRAIN CHICKEN JERKY IS BEING INVESTIGATED BY THE FDA FOR CAUSING ILLNESS IN DOGS! The FDA has samples of the treat and is running tests on it now. They encourage anyone else with a similar story to come forward. Walmart HAS recalled Waggin' Train brand chicken jerky treats as of yesterday....call any wal-mart and ask, it is not just the Bestro treats.
I strongly encourage anyone who has fed their dogs this treat and had problems as a result to contact the local FDA office and file a complaint. The more complaints the FDA receives the sooner the treat can be officially recalled. Don't just blog about it, don't just complain to Wal-mart, call the FDA.

Oh, and by the way....this press release was written by ADI Pet inc. Of course it is going to claim Waggin Train is safe. Please check your facts and sources before convincing everyone a treat is safe when the FDA disagrees.
