How long from time of ingestion to illness? All four of my dogs eat Nutro pouches. I mix it in at night with their dry food.

Wow! I have 4 cats that have been suffering from renal failure as I have been feeding them the WalMart brand, Special Kitty for months and they love it. That was until March 5 when they stopped eating & drinking altogether. Luckily I changed their food to a safe prodcut and 3 have recovered but one remains a very, very sick kitty and the vet bills are mounting. 4 visits so far and we are not through. I have been trying to call Menu foods since the press release was issued Friday night and the phone line is BUSY! At least now I have another contact through the FDA that is at least taking names & numbers in order to return calls! This is huge & I am devasted that my cats are suffering because of the food that I chose to purchase for them. Wal Mart is offering refunds for unused food, but that is little comfort when I have a kitty that may die due to this failure.

Menu foods has posted a list of all brands and codes that are affected. Check out menufoods.com . Good luck getting them to answer the phone though if you decide to call them! Good luck! |

Is this recall only for that particular type of food or does it involve dry foods as well?

According to the story, "the company says it changed suppliers as of March 6, and has increased testing of raw materials and finished goods." There's a lot of information on the internet stating that the parent company does its testing on animals. I don't know how to tell if this is true or not.

Again, Newsday you have dropped the ball. People want a list of the recalled food. Almost all metro NY retailers carry Iams canned food. Most of your local animal Vets carry Iams, and Science Diet.
I just found on MSNBC.com another pet food producer Diamond Pet Foods has been linked to the death of 76 dogs nationwide as per FDA. It is called Aflatoxin poisoning: a naturally occurring toxic chemical that comes from a fungus on corn and other grains. FYI: www.7online.com has a complete up to date list. |

The list can be found at www.menufoods.com/recall . However, the list is not complete. For instance, Purina has now added a recall for Mighty Dog in packets, not cans. Consult the list initially and then go to the website for the particular manufacturer like I did for Purina. They say it is not dry food. So sorry Sue from Ohio about your kitties :-(

I'm so sorry for all you pet owners. These are our family members not just property that can be replaced. After much online research on pet food several years ago, I was disgusted at the quality of the food out there. I can't even trust my vet! Some are compensated by the food companies to "push" Eukanuba and Iams on us. I'm glad I didn't listen to him.
After much research, I settled on Natural Balance by Dick Van Patten. Expensive, but well worth the well being of my best friends. Here is the link to the list of BAD dog and cat food: http://www.menufoods.com/recall/product_dog.h... |

My pomeranian Annie, died suddenly of kidney failure less than a month ago. She seemed pretty healthy, but lost a lot of weight, vomited (the classic signs) in less than month. At the time, word of the recall didn't come out & our family has been devastated since then. She went from being healthy & active,to lethargic & bony so fast. Unfortunately, I came home from spring break last week & found out then she had just passed away just shy of her 12th birthday. She was at the Vet hospital for 4 days, taken home & died 2 days later. The worst spring break of my life.
What makes me upset is that I found out that one of the contaminated products Iams was on the list of recalled products. I'm not sure what I want to do. I don't even know how lawsuits work or if it's worth it b/c I lost what was most important me me & know that NOTHING will bring back my precious Annie. The only thing I would want out of it is better quality control. Imagine, if that happened to baby food or other products. If anything comes out of this, I don't want anyone to go through what my family went through. Take your pet to the vet to get checked out if they eat any canned pet food. Pets can't tell you when they're sick, usually when there are signs of illness it's almost too late. I regret every day of what I could have done, but of course I had no idea. |

PLEASE take this recall seriously !!!!
Visit www.Menufoods.com/recall regularly, in case other brands and lot numbers are added later (Science Diet was not there originally). Tell everyone you know w/ pets to visit the site also. Pets have died and are dying due to this bad foods. We were lucky and our cat made it (after a 4 weeks nightmare) w/o permanet damage, but it could have gone the other way. This is serious...do not take any chances and inform yourselves and everyone you know that might not have access to the internet, etc. PLEASE !!! |

I feel the company that produces the pet food in question, should have an imediate class action lawsuit filed against them, not to mention paying for the Vet. bills, expenses associated with a pet's death, and restitutions. This is un-acceptable to put your trust in the hands of a company that widely markets the listed foods, only to find out, you may have been killing the animal you dearly love. I am appauled and worried that my pet and many others may be involved due to someone cutting corners for a better "bottom line". If human food has such stringent guidelines, why not foods that we feed our loving animals? I have used a variety of the listed recall items un-knowingly, and now fear for my pet's health, 2 Scottys and one cat.

My cat started eating the Iams small cans on Feb. 21st. By the 25th she had stopped eating. On the 26th the vet diagnosed her in full renal failure and her outlook was bleak. She was an older cat (12+ she was a rescue)so we just thought it was her time. We had her euthanized on the 28th.
She was the best cat in the world and it makes me nuts to think she was poisoned on this food. I did contact Iams and they are going to contact my vet. Where they're going to go with this, I don't know. I see in the article to contact the FDA in my state and I will do that today. |

I too have lost two 3 year old kittys suddenly in the last month. I fed them the special kitty pouch food as a special treat. I thought I was being kind to them but now with this recall I feel terrible for even buying it for them. I now can see they had classic signs of kidney failure, but they went too quickly for me to see they really needed help by a vet. My daughter was just devestated by the loss of her furry friends. As others have said you can't replace a member of the family. I hope everyone who has a pet hears about the recall and takes their pet to the vet to get checked out as a percaution.
