Shut your cheeze hole, GOP shill. Schumer has made mistakes but trying to grab the reins of the completely out of control energy vampire industry is NOT one of them. I just hope he can back up his tough talk. As for you, go pay over $4 at the gas pump to your corporate masters and enjoy it while you can, because if this price gouging and rampant abuse of power keeps up then you won't like the storm that's coming. It just won't be electrical power you lose from that one.

Build Broadwater and repower all the plants with natural gas. Get Shoreham back online ASAP.

Repowering the Northport plant is actually a good idea. I'm surprised that the media wh*re Schumer actually proposed it. This is only the second time I have agreed with him on onything.

I have another idea. Take the $2.9B from all the money, perks and benefits that Schumer and other politicos get.

You guys should be more outraged that foreign countries control out utilities ( water, roads, electricity...) then Chuck.

When the vast majority of Long Islanders cannot pay their energy bills, be gas or oil, a spot some are already in, National Grid, LIPA et al will have meager profits to quibble about. But LI will nver attract the young tax base it needs to survive. They'll be a lot of "jingle" mail from those stuck with a situation of diminishing returns. All the double dipping, high taxes, 50 unnecessary school districts, special districts, all of it ,will implode both counties. The smart money got out.

Hey Chuckie, how about we use the billions of dollars in aid to Israel instead?

Shumer has no power over LIPA or natgrid. He's blowing more smoke than an antiquated power plant. Repowering is a good idea as long as the rate-payers are willing to accept a rate increase as a result. Shumer has to demonize natgrid so he can appear to be "slaying the dragon". His focus should be on how speculators are driving the oil markets to record territory.

Schumer is an idiot - literally, and I think it is a disgrace that one of the most dishonest and unlikeable people on the planet is our other senator.

That said I think that Chuckie has it right on this one - the Northport plant is so inefficient that after it was retooled Nat Grid would not need to raise rates to get their return on investment because all of the additional electricity that will be produced would be mostly profit.

The upgrade should have been done years ago for financial and health reasons. Now it should have been part of the sale contract.

then enforce the tune up on the utility. It IS a utility, run for the people, and supposedly managed FOR the people, with a controlled rate of return for the biz that owns it!

Did anyone notice that Chuckie reappeared on the scene about 3 weeks ago, and that before that he was absent for about a month. I think he got a new batch of hairplugs installed and had to stay out of sight until the scabs healed.

That said, I can't stand people who try to tell other people what to do with their private property. I would guess that National Grid is more likely to sell the Northport plant than to repower it. In all of their other northeast operations, National Grid is a retailer, not a generator of electricity. The former Lilco/Keyspan plants are the only ones they own.

Also, when these guys beat up on Northport as a "pollution belching dinosaur" they are talking about CO2, which is a supposed greenhouse gas. It is not regulated as a pollutant, and is not against the law to emit. The plant is in compliance with all current EPA requirements, and burns extremely low sulfur content oil, which we pay a premium for.

Schumer is Mr Kneejerk. he has no idea what it takes to accomplish anything but so long as it sounds good on the Short term.. he's spouting.

He has not answered one of my letters to him in 3 years. nor has Hillary.
