Report: 'Spygate' tapes include offensive signals

The New England Patriots recorded tapes of the Miami Dolphins ' offensive signals during a game in 2001, according to a report on ESPN.com. While much of the 'Spygate' controversy has centered around the ...

Your paper is trash. You actually printed that walkthrough prior to the 2002 Super Bowl WAS among the eight tapes Walsh submitted.

IT WAS NOT INCLUDED. DID YOU MAKE SUCH A HUGE ERROR ACCIDENTALLY?

Why is this "spy" thing a story? These coaches are giving these signals IN PUBLIC! In full view of tens of thousands of people! Is there some rule that everybody has to close their eyes when a coach is making arm movements to communicate with his players? and with all the high tech communications equipment and people up in booths with phones and what not, why do they even need visible hand signals anymore?
It's ridiculous. The Patroits should get the biggest videocamera they can find, spray paint it Day-Glo orange, set it up on a big scaffold and point it right at the other team's bench at every game, home and away.

Adding "-gate" to anything and everything that seems even mildly conspiratorial is lazy and misleading. Why does this get a "-gate"? Does it give it credibility? I'm not one of those posters who likes to say "With all the pain in the world why do we care about footballers trying to cheat", I am, however, tired of the exaggeration to make a moderately interesting story important.

What is the NFL considering? This guy needs to be barred from the NFL permenately...he's scarred the game in more ways than steroids could ever do in a players lifetime.

Your point is valid; however, the majority of fans are not looking at signals...they are there to obviously to watch their team play...

the reason why this is such an issue is the fact that no opposing team should have prior knowledge of another team's signal...they can review offensive play tapes as warranted by the NFL (taken from the coach box area above the field)...these tapes focused primarily on signals.

Furthermore, should a fan approach a team with such information, they are bound by league rules not to accept any sensitive material from fans, regardless of the circumstance.

Even with today's sophisticated technology, one must always assume that any information transmitted through the internet, post office or hand delivery (via cameras all over america) are bound to be traced.

I think spygate pretty much tarnishes anything that the Patriots have accomplished in this decade. They had the Steelers taped which helped them win that 2001 championship, and they've been doing it ever since until they got caught by the Jets. There really was no dynasty. This period in football is always going to be looked back on with millions of questions and obscurity. There really was no champion. The Indianapolis Colts should have more than 1 superbowl and so should Pittsburgh. Those teams got cheated.

This guy is a disgrace to the NFl, he's likely been doing this long before 2001, every Super bowl is tainted, he's not a genius, he's a unscrupulous cheater. He should be banned from football.

Did they videotape the signals as the Giants were tossing Brady about the turf?

The only one that should be calling the plays is the quarterback, then no one can steal them. The NFL has gotten way too technical. What's next, embedded audio chips in helmets and have coaches press play numbers on their cell phones? The last quarter back to exclusively call his own plays won FOUR Super Bowls and EIGHT AFC Championships. Ain't that right Terry?

with all the talent on that team....why? This time I suggest Mr. Goodell not destroy the tapes. If memory serves, Good old Belichick said there was no other taps....He should be suspended from the league for 2 years without pay......

Not too late to join Jets Nation. Why spy on the Dolphins? The Jets can beat them with their eys closed!

The Pats are videotaping the signals during 2000 & 2001 when the Dolphins won 3 of 4. Then, in 2002 & 2003 when the Dolphins were pretty talented, the Pats won 3 of 4. The Dolphins had the same coordinators during all 4 of those seasons, so you can't tell me the pats didn't benefit illegally from their 2001 & 2002 videotaping.

Both seasons, the Dolphins missed the playoffs by one game. The 2002 team was 11-5. That team had the best running game in the league and one of the best defense in the league. The loss to the pats on the last game of the season is what knoocked them out.

Is anyone else outraged over this?

The only question I have is if the Patriots were such a "great" team, why did they have to stoop "so low" to win Super Bowl titles? Personally, I hope Belichek isn't suspended. I hope the Patriots lose more draft choices. When it is a level playing field, I'll have an opportunity to laugh at the New England Patriots!!!

The Patriots were reprimanded for illegal use of cameras on-field after the issuance of a "clarification" making such use a rule violation.

WHATEVER they taped is NOT relevant to the rule they broke as there are NOT rules prohibiting theft of signals, offensive, defensive or otherwise.

They could have been shooting the opposing team's signals, playbook, or just some hot-girl in the stands, and the rule violation (for which they HAVE BEEN punished) remains the same. Trying to make a distinction between the contents of these tapes ignores this only salient fact and can only be intended to artifically prolong the controversy (presumably to sell more ads/papers I suppose).

PLEASE try to stick to RELEVANT information and avoid hyperbole, speculation and misdirection in your reportage.

Plain and simple, Bill Belichick is a liar and a cheat. If players deserve to get suspended for smoking a joint. He should at least get a one season suspension. Maybe some of you have forgotten a few seasons back when everyone was complaining that the Dolphin's offense was too predictable. After getting beat by the Pats dolphin players claimed the Pat defenders were calling out the plays that the dolphins were about to run before the ball was snapped. Its easy to predict the play when you know the signals. I hope the NFL doesn't just sweep this under the artificial turf.
