SNY baffled by Willie's comments
SNY's announcers had two games to analyze yesterday, but they saved some of their most pointed remarks for something that happened long before the first pitch was thrown.

The entire crew nailed it with their comments about Willie. This club is begining to look like a circus and the manager is the ring leader. If he would show more emotion and worry about on the field issues than maybe the team would play better. One has to wonder that all this distraction caused by Willie or one of the player's (who ever's) turn it is causes this offense and pitching to some degree be so inconsistent. If it doesn't than this team is no better than an 85 win team. If this is true than Omar, it is time to tear up the plans and start from scratch with younger players.

Willie should be more concerned how his overpaid underachievers are doing. There is racism in this country, no getting around that. But Willie shouldn't use that as an excuse when he is critiqued by tv and newspaper reporters, about how lacluster his team is, and how he doesn't seem to be a fiery type manager. I never thought I would say this, and this doesn't have to do with these recent comments, but Willie should be replaced. The question is who can inspire these boring players. There is a lot of baseball yet to be played, and I truly hope the Mets will get better. It is too early to even think about football.

I am a Willie Randolf fan but his comments to a friend about the hand that feeds him the hand that gave him the oprtunities and the fact that other than his first year the team under him has vastly underachieved, he is close to the end if he does not make a quick turn around of these underachivers.

Is Willie saying he is an emotional leader? That he does get fired up at the team? Really?!?! I could have sworn that was Jerry Manuel who was tossed the other night against the Yankees, and Willie's quote was "Jerry took the bait." Are you serious? The Manager is supposed to get tossed, not the bench coach.
Or maybe Willie is responding to all those closed door meetings he holds to fire up his team... oh wait, he doesn't do that either. The only time he holds those is when Wagner causes a stir. Or maybe the racist SNY and print media just glance over all those meetings. Give me a break. Your race card is over played, Willie. |

I like Willie, but it's not looking good. Too bad Beltran(the most OVERRATED PLAYER IN HISTORY), AND A FEW OTHERS WILL COST HIM HIS JOB. They should have traded beltran instead of Gomez. I mean this guy has been NOTHING since he got here. I don't care about his #'s. He is NOT clutch(hits a 3 run bomb when we're up by 5). lazy in CF, and overall doesn't play w/ ANY enthusiam.
the big shake-up is coming to flushing |

Sorry Willie but I think the problems on this team have outgrown your ability to solve them!
It's time for a change!! |

I fix. I make Al Sharpton bench coach.

Beltran has been bad, but he has a non trade clause and he is not going anywhere. The only place he is hopefully going is out of the cleanup position. He is a probably a #2 hitter or #6 hitter. Not a #4 hitter. He barely is a #3 hitter.
This team needs a major overall and both Omar and Willie need to go. Omar picked the crappy players and Willie is not using any of them to what they are capable of. |

I don't give a Rat's bhind what color the managers butt is, or the players... I am a Met Fan....with that said here goes.... it took just over 24hours for the hype of the sweep of the Yankees to wear off...back to reality.. Willie and Peterson must go... Willier cannot seem to light a fire under the team and Peterson couldn't teach Koufax how to pitch!!! Why would you bring in Wise in game 2 right after we got bac into it.. didn't he pitch in game 1 ealrier and wasn't Smith avialable.. jsut another example of not trustng the young guys.. Wise is just Sosa with the new #.. time fo Heilman to go n the DL,, he needs som rest...bring back Bobby V...at least he is entertaining...Hodges must be rolling over in his grave...

Time for the Willie watch to start. If the Mets come home with a losing record on this road trip Willie will be history.

I agree - great idea. Then if the Mets fail, we can concoct a great white excuse. Wright was excelling at the expense of Delgado, ergo racism occurred which caused Willie stress and an inability to manage the team as a whole. Behind every great black managerial failure are a whole bunch of white people who obviously prevented the manager from doing his job... get real Willie or else nobody will hire you again.

Oh, so it's SNY that depicts Willie as a passive observer of the Mets' ongoing plight. Those rats! SNY must be using CGI to simulate that constant image of Willie motionlessly staring into space night after night!! It looks like Willie's going to try to manufacture some racial issue to save his job. Great, that's just what this directionless team needs -- a little racial hostility. The Mets would be wise to cut their losses and dump him before he does any more damage.

As a manager, Willie was first lucky and then given the benefit of the doubt. He is now recognized as being in over his head. Would make a great first/third base coach.

|
let's see now....rich kotite, ray handley, jeff torborg, brian trottier, don nelson, joe walton, mike cubbage, jean-guy talbot, al groh, stump merrill, etc, etc.....all criticized unduly beacause they were african-americans. what's that? no? they weren't ? ohhh!!...i thought that it's everybody's excuse when they can't face up to their own ineptitude, indifference, ineffectiveness, lack of passion or communication and motivational skills...otherwise, one might have to consider one's own shortcomings rather than blame everyone else and calling the press, the broadcast media and the fans all bigots.

I think you hit it right on. The only problem is, as a Yankee fan, I was able to watch Willie coach 3rd base on an everyday basis. He wasn't very good there either. I liked Willie a lot as a player for the Yankees, but he's giving the impression that he's lost total control over this team. I still think that in Baseball, more than any other sport, the manager has the least to do with an outcome. These guys are getting paid a ton of $$ and not earniong any of it. That's the biggest problem. It's the players fault more than anything else. Ok now back to watching the disaster on the other side of town. |

I have watched most games on SNY and I also find the complaint mystifying. On another note, it is time for the Mets to take stock. They will be winning nothing this year. I see Wright, Church, Santana, Maine, Sanchez, Feliciano, Smith and maybe Beltran as the Mets future. It is time to rebuild and perhaps stock the farm system. Despite the new stadium, they will not be a contender for a few years during the rebuild. I have been a fan since 1962 and this is no team of destiny. I would say play more small ball, but half the team can't bunt.

|
I concur. It's time the Mets started relying on the draft and player development instead of overhyped over paid free agents and veterans on the down side of their careers. |

I have been a Willie supporter..past tense. What the **** is he talking about! Does he not realize this is a team with an extremely high payroll that has underachieved during his watch?? Sorry Willie, you lost a supporter.

after tonights loss to the braves, i wanted to see him throw something in his office during his post game comments on SNY, show some emotion, show you care, i know he does, but calm on, get thrown out of a game or take a bat to the water cooler, this laid back attitude after 3 straight losses to the braves, a rival, possibly division winner is defintely not working

Some one should ask Mr. Cohen why he loves to bash Willie every chance he gets. take the last game withe the Reds, last time up for the Reds, the Mets well out in front and the Reds batted out of order. Willie brought to the attention ump. and Mr. Gary A.K.A ("ITS OUT OF HERE") Cohen talk about is why Willie did not wait before he spoke with the ump. Talk about beating a dead horse. the game was pretty much over at that point, but Mr. Cohen went on and on about it. That not the first time Gary has done that. So I can understand why Willie feels the way he does. Maybe SNY needs to take a look at them selfs and stop throwing the manager under the bus and start being more supportive and less baffled.
